As an international metropolis, London has no shortage of architecture, from ancient magnificent castles and bridges to stylish and chic buildings and skyscrapers, each with its own character and history. Today, The London Pass takes you to see the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, a Hindu temple, to appreciate a different culture and tradition.

Located in Neasden, North London, near Neasden Station or Dollis Hill Underground Station (Jubilee line), this Hindu temple covers 3,000 square feet and is the largest Hindu temple outside India, as well as London's most important Hindu museum.

Featuring a splendid and exquisite exterior, the temple was built using 5,000 tons of Italian Carrara marble, Indian Ambaji marble, and the finest Bulgarian limestone. These stone carvings were first hand-carved by artisans in India, then shipped to London and assembled into the temple we see today.

Both on the exterior and interior of the temple, the pillars and beams are carved with numerous traditional Hindu motifs symbolizing auspiciousness, peace, and devotion. Here, architecture becomes art, and art becomes architecture, complementing each other.

The temple displays ancient Indian art and traditions, along with deities and patterns representing the sacred beliefs of people from over 8,500 years ago. Visitors can explore the permanent exhibition 'Understanding Hinduism' on the first floor of the temple, immersing themselves in the story of the temple's construction and meaning through 3D models, paintings, artworks, and traditional crafts, thereby learning about the origins, beliefs, and values of Hinduism.

Adjacent to the temple, the Haveli Cultural Centre combines traditional woodworking techniques with modern eco-friendly technology, providing a unique activity center for all those who come to study, worship, and participate in religious ceremonies at the temple.

Please note: All visitors to the Hindu temple must adhere to the dress code (no shorts, skirts must cover the knees) and show respect to the daily worshippers.
