Global Stroll [12] the Walk of the World Season 1 Episode 10 London
London is one of those places I never tire of. Twice a year I visit London, and each time I find myself lingering even longer.
June 2019: Late spring, the morning breeze at sea was still cool. Taking the ferry from Den Haag across the English Channel to Harwich in England takes six hours. Sleep overnight, and arrive on the eastern side of the Channel to watch the sunrise — perfect timing.
After disembarking, it’s less than two hours by train to London. If you’re lucky, the ferry ticket even includes a train ticket.
Since it was off-season, the check-in hall was empty. At first I thought I’d boarded the wrong ship. I had a double cabin all to myself, and they only charged for a single ticket.
But the public entertainment facilities on the ship were available for everyone to share.
The British sense of ritual is the most meticulous in the world. Even for an overnight ferry crossing for a weekend getaway, the fun equipment is a must.
Boarding at night, watching the moon over the sea.
Watching the sunrise on the eastern shore of the English Channel was a special arrangement I made to pass the time on the slow ferry.
After breakfast with the sunrise, leisurely disembark, then take the train to London’s St Pancras Station. Even commuters wouldn’t be late.
Visiting exhibitions is a must on a London trip.
The British Museum is basically my first stop every time I’m in London. I stay from opening until closing before I’m willing to leave.
Besides the British Museum, there’s also TATE MODERN.
And everywhere, urban sights that make you stop and linger.

Taking the 300 km/h EUROSTAR high-speed train from Brussels Midi Station or Paris Gare du Nord to London’s St Pancras Station takes only two and a half hours.
Midsummer London is lively from morning till night.
The highlight of this midsummer night’s journey was the annual Wimbledon Open. It’s less of a sports fan feast and more of an outdoor weekend extravaganza for Londoners. Watching the game is secondary; the real point is socializing.
Then, how could a midsummer night be without the post-dinner joy of open-air theater? Perhaps because it’s Shakespeare’s homeland, Londoners’ love for theater is everywhere.
A city where classical and modern coexist, where tradition and future live together — London is a great example!
China Exchange is a shop in London’s Chinatown that you might easily miss. It gathers new thinking and information about Sino-British relations.
Chinese milk tea has taken the world by storm. Not only do Chinese love it, but tea-loving Brits have also become inseparable from their cups.
After a long time in London, your brain gets activated. London, with its love for design and creativity, constantly produces accidental masterpieces:
The photo below is my favorite among those I took in London last year.
Chinese people love to compare, especially using cultural differences to contrast Eastern and Western behaviors, habits, and methods.
Actually, there’s a simplest way: the posters in subway stations. Whether in Europe, America, Asia, or mainland China, the most obvious difference can be seen from subway advertisements. Whether it’s culture, arts, eating, drinking, or entertainment — these mass-accessible information transmissions should say it all.
