Michelin Star Hunt in the UK: A Visit to the Only Chinese Restaurant to Hold a Michelin Star for 20 Years
As a food enthusiast, I never miss the Michelin guide each year. The 2023 London Michelin Guide was released on March 27, and among the listed restaurants, each has its own merits, but one place has particularly piqued the interest of London foodies—Hakkasan.
Hakkasan Hanway Place, located in London, is a restaurant under Tao Group Hospitality. Since its opening, it has been at the forefront of Cantonese cuisine. In 2003, Hakkasan Hanway Place became the first Chinese restaurant to receive a Michelin star in the UK Michelin Guide, and it has now retained that star for 20 consecutive years. Notably, three other Hakkasan locations—Hakkasan Mayfair, Hakkasan Dubai, and Hakkasan Abu Dhabi—also hold Michelin recognition.
To celebrate this milestone, Global Executive Chef Andrew Yeo and Global Joint Pastry Chef Romain Cornu, along with their talented team, have designed two unique limited-edition dishes, which will be exclusively available at Hakkasan Hanway Place starting from April 28 for the entire year.
The first limited dish is called "Star Celebration: Peking Duck with Kumquat Chili Sauce." Hakkasan pays tribute to its origins with this dish. Peking Duck, a signature item since Hakkasan opened in 2001, has appeared on the menu in various forms and styles, becoming a must-order dish. This year, Hakkasan adds an innovative touch to this classic to celebrate its remarkable achievements.
The second limited dish is "Star Celebration: Michelin Selection Desserts." Hakkasan has created mini versions of five beloved signature desserts, including the newly introduced Rising Star Soufflé. This soufflé combines a melt-in-your-mouth texture with sweet Venezuelan chocolate, evoking the light and delicate bloom of spring on the palate. The round white chocolate Michelin logo garnish adds an extra touch of elegance to this delightful dessert.
Hakkasan Hanway Place will reopen for lunch on Thursdays and Fridays, offering the above dishes. Don't miss this restaurant if you're aiming for a star!
