Gagosian Shop at Burlington Arcade proudly presents a new solo exhibition by American artist Rick Lowe, running from now until June 28, 2025.

Rick Lowe is a social practice artist from Houston, Texas, best known for his project Project Row Houses, initiated in 1993, which transformed abandoned shotgun houses in Houston's Third Ward into art spaces and community centers, becoming a model for art-community integration.

After over 30 years of community-based art practice, Rick Lowe's artistic expression has gradually evolved into painting. On canvas, he recreates community experiences in abstract forms, believing that painting is another way to build community—a connection 'from nothing to something,' and an interweaving of geography, psychology, and society.

In this exhibition, Rick Lowe presents a series of new works on paper, continuously exploring the artistic tension between improvisation and abstract language. As part of his evolving creative practice, Lowe engages in personal studio work while also advancing collaborative art projects inspired by the concept of 'social sculpture,' aimed at sparking positive transformation in urban communities.

Paper is the core medium of Lowe's improvisational exploration. Through layering of drawing and collage, he constructs dense, interwoven image structures where colors and shapes interlace like a net, blending the freedom of painterly language with the order of geometric elements, resulting in a unique visual logic.

During the exhibition, the ground floor of Gagosian Shop will also offer limited-edition art publications related to Rick Lowe's work, including the catalogue for his representative project 'Hic Sunt Dracones,' which was exhibited at the Benaki Museum in Athens. These publications serve as supplementary reading, providing visitors with a more comprehensive perspective on Lowe's artistic practice.

If you happen to be in London, we invite you to visit Gagosian Shop at Burlington Arcade. Take a quiet moment to stand before these works on paper and explore the artistic possibilities of public space and sociology. You may find inspiration and discover a more fascinating side of the city we live in through a unique lens.
