The show takes place in the Pujiu Temple scenic area, a national 4A tourist attraction. This thousand-year-old temple is not only an ancient Buddhist sanctuary but also the very setting of The Romance of the Western Chamber. For years, Pujiu Temple has been celebrated for its love theme, known as a “sacred place of love.”

The story of Zhang Sheng and Cui Yingying unfolded on a moonlit night long, long ago. In the 1,300 years since, Pujiu Temple has weathered rise and fall, destruction and rebirth. The moon has waxed and waned, flower seasons have come and gone, yet generation after generation has cherished and yearned for perfect love and blissful union. “One love is the love of all under heaven.” The moonlight of Pujiu Temple from that distant night travels through time, brightening countless moments of loneliness, lingering affection, disappointment, and dreams…

Now! Step into that night a thousand years ago with me, into the very moment The Romance of the Western Chamber came alive.

The temple buildings nestled among green trees, the gray-white balustrades, the bluish-gray stone steps, the towering ancient trees of deep green—all are bathed in a fantastical, dreamlike atmosphere.

Stroll through Pujiu Temple, searching for traces of Zhang Sheng and Cui Yingying. By the elegant moon gate, I clearly witnessed that “stunning beauty” scene: Yingying, who had just sighed “Fallen petals on the stream turn red, myriad idle sorrows fill my heart, speechless I blame the eastern breeze,” stepped out from the Pear Blossom Courtyard with her maid Hongniang. Like a celestial being descending from the sky, her slender waist swayed gently like a willow as she glided through the moon gate. Suddenly, she came face to face with Zhang Sheng, who was roaming the garden in high spirits…
