After visiting Xiezhou Guandi Temple, we wanted to go to Changping Guandi Family Temple. The temple is in Changping Village, Xiezhou Town, a little over 10 kilometers from Xiezhou Guandi Temple, but public transport isn't very convenient. We couldn't hail a DiDi (ride-hailing service) after leaving the temple. There's a public bus along the highway that goes to Changping Village, but we had no idea when it would arrive. We noticed a group of police officers holding an event in front of the temple, so we asked if we could hitch a ride with them to Changping Village. They weren't heading that way, though. Later, while waiting by the road, a taxi came by. The driver said a police officer had told him someone needed a ride to Changping Village and sent him over. It seems the police were really helpful—even though we didn't ride with them and hadn't asked them to call a taxi, they still took the initiative to find one for us. The taxi took us to Changping Guandi Family Temple and then to our hotel for a total of 100 yuan. The temple is about 18 kilometers from the city center hotel.

Guan Yu was a native of Changping Village, Xiezhou, Shanxi. This is where he lived from birth until he fled to avoid trouble. After his death, the locals, moved by his valor and great virtue, built a shrine here to worship him. It was first constructed around the early Sui Dynasty, over 1,400 years ago. By the Jin Dynasty, the shrine had evolved into a temple, known as the Family Temple or the Ancestral Temple of Guan Di.

Admission to Changping Guandi Temple is 30 yuan per person. Visitors aged 60 and above can enter for free, but this free policy does not apply to those from Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai.
