Shanxi Yunqiu Mountain Scenic Area, located in the core area of Jinnan ancestral tourism, is a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction. The area features steep terrain and beautiful scenery, and is known as 'the number one scenic spot of Hefen'. At Yunqiu Mountain, you can enjoy bungee jumping, sky flyer, zip line gliders, dry ski slopes, water zip lines, and more. There is also one must-see attraction: the world's rare, super-large ice cave group. How to explore Yunqiu Mountain? Here's a 3-day, 2-night high-energy itinerary—keep it handy!

Day 1

Try to set out in the morning to make your schedule much smoother. For instance, I departed from Wuhan Tianhe Airport, took a morning flight, and arrived at Shanxi Linfen Airport a little before 10 a.m. Then you can rent a car at the airport and drive yourself to the Yunqiu Mountain scenic area, or take a taxi. It's about 100 kilometers from Linfen Airport to the scenic area, taking under two hours.

After arriving at Yunqiu Mountain, be sure to stay in one of the local guesthouses—they are absolutely worth experiencing! There is a trendy guesthouse called Kangjiaping Guesthouse. The ancient village of Kangjiaping has transformed centuries-old residences into cave-themed guesthouses rich in Southern Shanxi character. In collaboration with a planning and design team from Taiwan, the concept of 'living as the foundation' was integrated into the overall design, breathing new life into the original cave dwellings.

There are around 100 rooms here, priced from about a hundred to several thousand yuan, catering to all kinds of travelers. Although nestled in the mountains, the experience at this trendy guesthouse is in no way inferior to a star-rated hotel outside.

Stepping into Kangjiaping Guesthouse feels like returning home. Even for the smallest requests, just give the butler a call and they will do their best to meet your needs. Facilities include Wi-Fi, TV, small fridge, electric kettle, electric blanket, hair dryer, manual pour-over coffee pot, and radio; butler services include luggage storage, wake-up call, afternoon tea, and fresh fruit platter; nearby services include free parking, dining, and a bar.

Once you enter the Yunqiu Mountain area, even though you're in the mountains, you still get an amazingly open view. After checking into your guesthouse, find a small slope by the doorstep, lazily flop onto a chair, and watch the mountain sunset. Such a peaceful moment is well worth taking time to experience and enjoy.

While at Yunqiu Mountain, you must sample the local delicacy 'Water Feast'. In the old days, a Water Feast was only held for major village events like weddings or births. It's not just a meal, but an opportunity for neighbors to exchange courtesies and strengthen bonds.

So, in the evening, gather with friends at the Water Feast restaurant and savor the experience—what better chance to deepen your friendships!

Day one inevitably involves some travel fatigue, so it's perfect to relax at a mountain guesthouse. I stayed in a room with a small courtyard, so from dusk until night, my friends and I could chat and play games in the yard. Once darkness fell, just look up and you'd see the stars and moon.

Day 2

Even though we stayed in the mountains the night before, we were still far from the actual peak. So on the second day, I suggest doing what we did: pack up your gear and get ready to hike!

Call the butler to arrange a car from the guesthouse, and it will take you to the foot of Yunqiu Mountain. From there, you can take a cable car! The cable car takes you straight to the summit—a total blessing for the lazy. If you want a proper climb, there are also very safe and interesting mountain trails leading all the way to the top.

Since we're here to hike, why not conquer a summit?

Yuhuang Peak is the highest peak of Yunqiu Mountain, at 1,629 meters above sea level. To the east it overlooks Mashou Mountain and Fuxi Ridge, to the west it links the winding mountains, to the south it embraces the great plain of Hedong, and to the north it leans against the Lüliang Mountains.

I'm the lazy type, so I opted for the cable car. Upon getting off, I was already at a small slope just 600 meters below the top of Yuhuang Peak, and from there it was a gentle walk up!

Climbing Yuhuang Peak, gazing up at the expansive sky, looking out over the vast sea of clouds, and peering down at the sinuous dragon-like ridges, your heart feels wide open and your spirits soar.

Both the highest peak, Yuhuang Peak, and the second-highest, Zushi Peak, are worth checking out. Fortunately, the scenic area has very convenient uphill and downhill cable cars, giving visitors the freedom to choose.

Between the peaks stands the spectacular and breathtaking Yuanyang Bridge. It spans 219 meters, rises 195 meters high, and is 2 meters wide, making it currently the longest and highest fully transparent glass skywalk in Shanxi Province. On fine days, as you step onto the glass, the canyon rifts are clearly visible beneath your feet—walking on it feels like riding the wind, thrilling beyond belief.

With such a daring bridge, how could you not cross it at least once?

After crossing Yuanyang Bridge and snapping some photos at the Shenta observation deck, you can start heading downhill. Soon you'll pass one of Yunqiu Mountain's most iconic sights: the Ice Cave Group! Can you imagine that in such a scorching summer, there is a world-rare, super-large ice cave group here in Yunqiu Mountain?

Absolutely right! The most worthwhile sight in the Yunqiu Mountain scenic area is this world-rare, super-large ice cave group. After 16 years of exploration and development, the Yunqiu Mountain Ice Cave Group officially opened in early 2019. It is one of the world's three major ice cave wonders, formed over three million years ago, and is the largest natural ice cave group discovered in China to date. The cave walls are completely covered in ice, with ice pillars, ice bamboo shoots, ice stalactites, ice stone flowers, and other ice crystal formations scattered throughout the space. Large and small icicles are crystal clear, and under the colorful lighting they present a dreamlike scene, just like a fairy-tale world that will mesmerize you.

The ice cave stays below zero celsius all year round, so be sure to wrap up warmly when you enter! No worries—at the cave entrance, the very thoughtful staff will provide you with warm coats.

After coming out of the Ice Cave Group, right at the exit you can experience the zip line glider, dry ski slope, high-altitude swing, water zip line, and more! The zip line glider is 490 meters long and flies over dense forests and lake at 10 meters per second, giving you a bird's-eye view of the lush earth and shimmering blue water—your adrenaline will spike!

Once you glide down, the dry ski slope, high-altitude swing, and water zip line are right there. String these activities together and you'll have an incredibly thrilling summer day that will send your heart racing! Trust me, this downhill path packed with fun activities will make you feel the entire trip was totally worth it!

In the afternoon, after coming down the mountain, a car can be arranged to take you straight back to the Kangjiaping Guesthouse in the scenic area. Once back, take a good rest. An even more exciting experience awaits you in the evening.

After dinner, take a leisurely stroll along the winding paths of the cave guesthouse village. At night, head to the local-style bar!

The bar is located within the Kangjiaping Guesthouse, complete with a cocktail bar counter, a stage area, dining area, and private rooms upstairs. The lighting and sound system are top-notch. I highly recommend having a Long Island Iced Tea here in the evening.

The joys of city nightlife can be found right here at Yunqiu Mountain, too!

Day 3

Staying in a trendy mountain guesthouse also brings a breakfast with plenty of style! In the morning, the butler will guide you to the Shan Zhen Yuan restaurant to enjoy their special breakfast here. Breakfast is incredibly sumptuous. A server will seat you at a table and then bring out a nine-grid breakfast set containing fruits, sliced meat, steamed sponge cake, cake, greens, pickled vegetables, eggs, and more. It's plentiful, and if you're not full, they'll bring you another round.

By now, do you think the thrilling experiences are over? Actually, there are two even more exciting activities right at the foot of the mountain: bungee jumping and the sky flyer!

In the morning, you can take a car to try these two. The bungee tower here is the highest extreme challenge in Shanxi, with a total height of 46 meters from the ground to the highest point. Jumpers leap from a 41-meter platform, plummeting at 50 kilometers per hour, and the whole thing takes just three seconds.

This bungee jump is thrilling enough! If that seems a bit daunting, there's a gentler option next to it: the sky flyer. This activity lifts you to a height of 25 meters so you can enjoy the sensation of flying through the air.

And with that, my high-energy Yunqiu Mountain check-in route comes to an end. In the afternoon, return to the guesthouse, pack your bags, and then drive your car down the mountain, waving goodbye to Yunqiu Mountain!

As a thrill-seeking travel enthusiast, I experienced a super exciting route at Yunqiu Mountain this time, and it truly sent my senses into overdrive! Of course, the scenic area offers far more than just these activities—there are many more interesting ways to explore. My guide is just for reference, and I hope you'll find the same joy at Yunqiu Mountain.

Finally, I must say: be sure to find the time to visit Shanxi Yunqiu Mountain. It's absolutely worth the trip!
