Huangshan Tour (Part 3 of 3)
Total trip day 6 - Monday, November 2 - From Anqing via Zhaji to Shanghai
After coming down from Mount Huangshan, we stayed overnight in Tangkou Town, and went to Anqing the next day for business. On November 2, we set out from Anqing to return to Shanghai, visiting the ancient village of Zhaji along the way.
Zhaji Village is located in Jing County, Xuancheng City, Anhui Province, on the north side of Mount Huangshan. This ancient Huizhou-style village, built in the early Tang Dynasty, has been inhabited by the Zha clan since the founding ancestor Zha Wenxi settled here. According to historical records, Zhaji Village originally had 108 bridges, 100 ancestral halls, and 108 temples. Today, there remain more than 140 ancient buildings, including over 40 bridges, 30 ancestral halls, and 4 temples, forming a relatively well-preserved ancient architectural complex in Zhaji Village.
Zhaji Village is surrounded by mountains on all sides, with four gates (Zhongxiu Gate, Pingling Gate, Bashan Gate, and Shimen Gate), two pagodas (Qingshan Pagoda and Rusong Pagoda); and three streams (Cenxi, Xuxi, and Shixi) converge, flowing through the village. Flat bridges, arch bridges, and cave bridges span the rivers. White-walled, black-tiled Huizhou-style buildings line the streams, adorned with exquisite Huizhou three carvings: brick carving, wood carving, and stone carving.
A poem praises it: "Ten li of Zha Village, nine li of mist, three streams converge among ten thousand homes; temples, pavilions, pagoda shadows below, small bridges, flowing water, apricot blossom sky."
Walk along the village river to the end of the ancient village, then turn onto the path leading into the village.
The quaint bluestone slab alleys, paired with typical Huizhou-style ancient buildings, feel like a journey back in time.
This concludes the entire itinerary.
