Day 2 of the self-drive along California Highway 1: the plan was to reach Carmel or Monterey for accommodation to meet the Day 3 schedule.
In the evening, we exceeded the plan and arrived in Santa Cruz, an internet-famous town along the route.
Due to time constraints, we stayed for one night and reluctantly left the next day.
Day 3: We drove to San Francisco. The weather was uncooperative—rain kept falling...
In such weather, it was certainly not good to wander outside, so we changed the plan to drive directly into downtown San Francisco to visit a few nearby places or those that couldn't be visited up close on foot.
San Francisco is one of the favorite cities for many who have been to California, and I am no exception.
Opinions vary on what exactly makes it great, but its hilly terrain and blended culture add charm to the city's vitality, particularly appealing to me.
Lombard Street is a world-famous tourist destination, a beautiful internet-famous spot.
But I wonder if you have ever seen this internet-famous spot in winter rain. Let me take you by car to experience its clear charm.

After two days of driving hard in the rain along California Highway 1, we finally entered the bustling downtown of San Francisco.
The first thing to do downtown was certainly to go to Chinatown for a proper Chinese meal to fill our stomachs; even though we were on the road, we still had to treat ourselves well.
Compared to the street I climbed uphill, Lombard Street fully embodies safety and comfort.
This street has an early origin. In fact, many mountainous areas and scenic spots in China have similar landscapes that are not inferior.
But the uniqueness of this street is that it is on a residential street, with differences in some design standards and implementation methods.
Next, Little Italy is not far away, just nearby. After seeing the scenic blocks, let's change perspective and admire the European-style buildings in the rain.
Since we drove through the block quickly, we only roughly appreciated the street architecture and didn't fully experience the neighborhood atmosphere.
From Little Italy, driving to the seaside brings us to Pier 39. We were attracted by the shops along the street and took a little detour.
The following travel notes will detail the various charms of Fisherman's Wharf under sunny weather.
Along the commercial street westward, the distant landmark is the iconic must-see of San Francisco—the Golden Gate Bridge.
Deep down, I have an inexplicable fondness and curiosity for the bridge, whether in life or on the road, always seeking opportunities to appreciate it.
So, come rain or shine, I couldn't miss it.
Driving across the bridge was a fortunate coincidence. If the weather hadn't given me this chance, I would have walked under bright sunshine.
Then the experience and perspective would have been completely different, but then I wouldn't have these rare winter rain views of the bridge either ^_*
This is the world's first suspension bridge with a span exceeding 1,000 meters.
Two giant steel towers stand on the north and south ends of the bridge, with a height equivalent to a 70-story building.
Driving along, we visited Lombard Street—Little Italy—Pier 39—Golden Gate Bridge.
The day was fully packed. Around 4 p.m., we drove to San Francisco Airport to return the car at a pre-booked parking lot.
It usually takes about an hour from downtown to the airport. Since we were unfamiliar with the route and it was rainy, we arrived around 6 p.m.
After returning the car, our main transportation was bus and subway.
