South Korea Travel Guide: Myeongdong Edition
South Korea, as a great country for eating, drinking, and having fun, has always been loved by tourists from all over the world. I, who know a little Korean, often travel to South Korea, and I am very familiar with travel guides. This time, while organizing old photos at home, I thought of sharing a South Korea travel guide: Myeongdong Edition. If you like it, I will continue writing this series~
Myeongdong is located in the center of Seoul, facing the famous landmark Namsan Tower from afar, and transportation is very convenient.
Take Line 4 to Myeongdong Station and Hoehyeon Station, or Line 2 to Euljiro 1-ga. Don't worry about not knowing Korean; in some famous places, the subway has Chinese announcements~
After arriving, our first stop is Shinsegae Duty Free! It's impossible to come to Korea without shopping! Unlike other duty-free shops, Shinsegae Duty Free has a unique building appearance, different from the typical square department store architecture, with a very artistic vibe. Next to it, the main store of another Shinsegae Department Store is the site of Korea's first department store. Moreover, Namsan Tower is nearby, and the scenery is exceptionally beautiful! The 8th to 12th floors of the building are the duty-free shop. Tourists can purchase duty-free products with their passport and return flight ticket, and directly pick up at the airport, saving a lot of trouble~
The 8th floor mainly has luxury brand counters, Chanel, GUCCI, etc., suitable for shopaholics. The 9th floor is mainly watches and jewelry, the best place to buy gifts for boyfriends or girlfriends. The 10th floor is a paradise for girls – a world of cosmetics and perfume!
The 11th floor mainly features trendy brands, suitable for fashionistas. And taking the escalator from the 11th floor leads to a sky garden, where you can rest and enjoy the distant view after shopping – isn't that thoughtful?! The 12th floor has electronics and alcoholic beverages, suitable for gifts for father figures. The biggest experience of shopping at Shinsegae Duty Free is its user-friendliness – there are multilingual signs in many places, so tourists don't get disoriented. Then there is the shopping environment – shopping here feels very comfortable, unlike other crowded and noisy duty-free shops. The space is more spacious and open, making shopping more enjoyable, as if everyone is a chairman's wife (I've watched too many Korean dramas, hahaha).
After circling around Shinsegae Duty Free, we went to the famous Myeongdong Street. The photos were taken by a friend who is currently in Korea, and it's very different from when I went there. Affected by the epidemic this year, Myeongdong, which mainly relies on tourists, appears empty and deserted, no longer the bustling street crowded with people.
There are many brand stores on both sides, and the most popular are shoe stores! In Korea, besides brand stores like Nike and Adidas, there are also multi-brand stores like FOLDER and ABC MART, which gather various popular shoe brands. One convenient thing is that you don't have to run from store to store; you can get it done in one shop~
After shopping at the shoe store, we felt a bit hungry and suddenly smelled a familiar aroma. Following the scent, we found a grilled fish restaurant! The name is Bantianyao Grilled Fish, and seeing people queuing at the door, the taste must be good! After eating Korean food for a few days, we really missed the food of our motherland. We took a number, waited about 20 minutes, and went in. It was so satisfying~
The essence of shopping in Myeongdong is eating while walking. When we went, the entrances of stores on both sides of Myeongdong Street were filled with various stalls, selling chicken skewers, potato tornadoes, pomegranate juice, octopus balls, and countless other items, dazzling the eyes. Even though we had just eaten grilled fish, we couldn't resist the temptation and bought many snacks to taste. Many vendors know a little Chinese, so communication was sufficient~
Although it may be difficult to travel to South Korea now, if you save this South Korea Travel Guide: Myeongdong Edition, it will definitely come in handy next time you have the chance~!
