Shinsegae and Shilla Duty-Free Shopping Guide: A Detailed Look at Korea’s Popular Duty-Free Stores
Shopping in Korea has become quite popular in recent years, especially Korean cosmetics, which many Chinese women flock to buy. Of course, it’s most cost-effective to purchase cosmetics at duty-free shops. So we need to also arrange a shopping guide for Korea’s largest duty-free stores: Shinsegae and Shilla! Today, let’s take a look at the shopping guides for Shinsegae Duty-Free and Shilla Duty-Free.
First, let’s introduce Shinsegae Duty-Free. It is located near the bustling Myeongdong Station, with very convenient transportation. It is also closer to N Seoul Tower, making it a great spot for taking certification photos. In terms of exterior architecture, compared to those large glass-walled buildings, it has a touch of vintage and artistic flair, as if strolling through a European street, giving an unconsciously light luxury feel that makes shopping feel more upscale.
Shinsegae also houses a department store and duty-free shop in the same building. Floors 1-8 are the department store, and floors 8-12 are the duty-free shop. There are Chinese signs everywhere, so you don’t have to worry about getting lost. The information desks also provide Chinese service, so any questions can be answered.
All kinds of brands are available, but my favorite part is Shinsegae Duty-Free’s rooftop garden. You can take the escalator from the 11th floor to reach it. It has lush greenery, a corridor for resting, and the landmark N Seoul Tower in the distance. It allows your eyes to rest after shopping and also relaxes your mind. It’s really thoughtful.
Next to it is Myeongdong shopping district. Believe me, ladies, Myeongdong is really fun to explore! There are many standalone stores, such as Folder, a Korean sneaker brand multi-store, and Olive Young, a huge Korean drugstore, both must-visit places. Other fast fashion brands like Zara, H&M, and SPAO also have very large stores. Shopping here is both convenient and comfortable.
As for Shilla Duty-Free, unlike Shinsegae which built its store in a bustling commercial area, Shilla Duty-Free built a separate building in a slightly more remote location, dedicated solely to duty-free products. The advantage is that it’s convenient for those driving, and it won’t be as crowded. The downside is that tourists and resellers usually take public transportation, so getting to Shilla Duty-Free requires a bus transfer, which is not as convenient traffic-wise.
However, the Shilla Hotel, which is also under the Shilla brand, is not far from the duty-free store, so it’s relatively convenient. The hotel has complete facilities, attentive service, and very delicious buffet meals! Staying a night when the price is right is quite enjoyable. And because the location is a bit off the beaten path, the surrounding environment is quieter. Perhaps because it’s not in a busy commercial area, Shilla Duty-Free seems a bit less bustling, but this can be an advantage during special times. There are Chinese signs and services everywhere, very thoughtful.
Due to space limitations, today I only introduced the shopping guides for Shinsegae and Shilla Duty-Free. If you want to see a more detailed introduction, feel free to leave a comment. The editor will definitely provide it for you.
