Popular Shopping Center in Korea: This Korean Department Store is a 'Utopia' for the MZ Generation
If you’re wondering which popular shopping center or Korean department store is the most loved by the MZ generation, the answer has to be Hyundai Department Store Yeouido. Last weekend, I followed a Korean shopping center recommendation and visited Hyundai Department Store Yeouido, known as Korea’s 'Utopia.' Designed with the MZ (Millennial and Gen Z) generation’s pursuit of trendy freedom and immersive experiences in mind, this popular Korean department store combines an indoor vertical park with a shopping center.
As soon as I entered Hyundai Department Store Yeouido, it felt like I had traveled from the fast-paced heart of Seoul into a magical art space. A indoor waterfall over ten meters high, with water cascading down continuously, made me feel as if I were in a rainforest, far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It felt like I wasn’t in a Korean department store at all, but rather strolling through a green, comfortable park.
There are many popular shopping centers and Korean department stores, but Hyundai Department Store Yeouido is undoubtedly the most unique. Not only is nature and harmony visible everywhere, but it also features a wide range of trendy K-fashion brands, and collaborates with emerging street brands favored by the MZ generation, regularly launching various pop-up stores. Compared to other Korean department stores, the customer base at Hyundai Department Store Yeouido is much younger. Many of the niche brands on my must-buy shopping list for Korea could be found here. Now that Christmas is approaching, Korean department stores have a tradition of decorating their premises, and Hyundai Department Store Yeouido is filled with a festive atmosphere. The Christmas store on the 6th floor was absolutely dreamlike—I was completely captivated and kept taking photos like crazy.
I also ran into many fellow alumni here, as this place has already become the 'best Seoul experience Korean department store' among Chinese international student circles. Every floor has self-service kiosks that support Chinese language services, making it incredibly convenient. It can meet almost all your shopping and leisure needs at once—everyone can find the brands or foods they like on their Korean must-buy shopping list, and also capture pretty life photos. If you apply for the special Hyundai K Card for foreigners now, you’ll not only receive a small gift but also earn 5% points at Hyundai Department Store and 3% points at the outlet.

In addition to my Korean must-buy shopping list, I definitely need to put together a must-eat list next time! Trendy dining brands from all over Korea gather on the basement level, offering cuisines from various countries and all kinds of delicious desserts. On a cold winter day, let’s go explore this Korean department store together and experience the popular shopping center that is Hyundai Department Store Yeouido.
