A Day Is Not Enough: Non-Stop Summer Fun at the One-Stop Family Paradise in Magic City

Summer vacation is here. The 'little beast' who had barely returned to the 'cage' is now back home as the Monkey King, full of energy. Parents are racking their brains once again: where to take these energetic kids to escape the scorching summer heat? I think theme parks are one of the best places for family outings. Recently, I've been taking my child Yuanbao to various amusement parks. If we talk about the best indoor park in Magic City, Baoyan Paradise's flagship store definitely makes the list. It combines a slide park, building block park, water park, play castle, petting zoo, and more, along with options like a family restaurant and a baking classroom. It's a one-stop solution for a family's needs: eating, drinking, playing, having fun, and learning.

Last week, I took Yuanbao to Baoyan Paradise for almost a whole day. From the rainbow slide to the play castle, from the temperature-controlled water park to the outdoor climbing net and merry-go-round, the variety of activities made Yuanbao so happy he forgot to go home. Watching his joyful and innocent smile, I felt like I was reliving my childhood. Yes, I couldn't resist trying the nearly 90-degree vertical slide – it was so thrilling! One ride and I was hooked. Not to mention the rainbow slide in the indoor heated water park, with water splashing everywhere – this is what an exhilarating and refreshing summer is all about!

Baoyan Paradise (Flagship Store) Address: No. 11, Lane 3825, Dushi Road, Minhang District, Shanghai.

By metro: Take Line 5 to Yindu Road Station, Exit 2. However, it's a bit of a walk, about 15 minutes.

By car: Parking at Baoyan is free for the first 4 hours; after that, it’s 6 RMB per hour.

1. Long-sleeved shirts and long pants: To protect the skin, both adults and children must wear long-sleeved tops and long pants to use the slides on the first floor. No exceptions, and staff will check. If you don’t have long sleeves, free sleeve covers are available on site.

2. Socks: You need to change shoes before entering the play areas and cannot go barefoot. Adults and children must wear socks, even in summer. If you forget to bring them, socks are available for purchase in the park.

3. Swimsuits and bath towels: Swimsuits are required for the water park. Slippers are provided, but towels are not—so please bring your own towels or bath towels. A small shop outside the water park sells swimsuits and swim rings if you don’t have them.

4. Kids sweat easily, so bring a comfortable set of clothes for them to change into that are easy to move around in.

1. Ticket purchase: There are many channels to buy Baoyan tickets, available on many OTA platforms. But the best deal is to follow the 'Baoyan Paradise' official WeChat account or mini-program: 380 RMB for one adult and one child, 480 RMB for two adults and one child.

2. Bag storage and shoe change: Baoyan has three luggage storage areas—one each at the shoe-changing areas on the first and second floors, and one in the changing rooms of the water park on the third and fourth floors. The water park's changing rooms also have family changing rooms, solving the inconvenience of mothers bringing boys or fathers bringing girls in traditional changing rooms.

3. Baoyan Paradise's opening hours differ between summer and non-summer periods. From July 1 to the end of August, Baoyan Paradise adjusts to summer hours: 9:30 AM to 8:30 PM, with the water park open from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

First Floor: Slide Park – Petting Zoo – Dynamic VR Park

The first floor is a slide park made up of colorful slides, including the rainbow slide that kids love and a terrifying 90-degree vertical 'devil's slide.'

I mustered up the courage to try it. Wearing a special suit, I slid down vertically from a height of 7.3 meters. Taking a deep breath, it felt like a free-fall ride—extremely thrilling, as if I traveled back to childhood in an instant. There was a dad there who couldn’t stop after one ride; he originally came to accompany his child, but ended up having a blast himself.

Yuanbao is a slide enthusiast. The last time he came to Baoyan Paradise he was just over two years old and could only go on the regular rainbow slide. This time, he bravely tackled the 45-degree blue ball-pit slide, very calmly and incredibly happily, probably riding it a dozen or twenty times...

The rainbow corridor is very safe.

In addition to the slide park, the first floor also has a 5D cinema and a dynamic VR park. Putting on VR goggles, I experienced a roller coaster ride through the clouds. How to describe it—it felt incredibly real!

There is also the petting zoo loved by children, with fluffy and cute alpacas, and meerkats that look like little aliens. The immersive indoor setting allows kids to experience a vibrant animal world.

Second Floor: Play Castle – Building Block Park – Amusement Park

Upon reaching the second floor, the first thing you see is a huge play castle. The floor is covered with yellow and white ball-pit balls, interspersed with red-and-white slides. The vibrant colors create a colorful fairy-tale world.

The play castle is always a favorite among kids—rolling, crawling, and playing in a world of ball pits and slides.

The net tribe area is designed like a tropical island, with hammocks and swings giving off a strong vacation vibe.

The trampoline area is sensibly divided into several zones, so kids can play in their own sections, which helps avoid many safety hazards.

The building block area is in the middle of the second floor. Colorful blocks can be transformed into endless shapes, which not only improve children's hand-eye coordination but also help them develop number concepts and spatial awareness.

I doubt any child doesn't love the bumper cars in the amusement park. The cartoon-shaped cars are cute and fun, and they test coordination. The collisions also help kids understand the reciprocal nature of forces.

There is also a baking classroom on the second floor, where kids interested in cooking can try making their own cookies and take their homemade treats home.

Because there are protective facilities everywhere, parents don’t need to follow their kids every second. If dad comes along, mom can even head to the nail salon in the corner of the second floor for a free manicure.

Third and Fourth Floors: All-Season Heated Indoor Water Park

The third and fourth floors are connected to form an indoor heated water park covering over 20,000 square meters. It doesn't matter if it's windy, rainy, cold, or hot—it can accommodate at least 300 visitors at once.

During the scorching summer, this place is a paradise for both kids and adults to beat the heat.

The rainbow slide in the center is spectacular. At 5 meters high and 32 meters long, you can experience the joy of a thrilling water ride. I rushed down from the top with Yuanbao, splashing water everywhere, as if reclaiming a long-lost childlike heart.

Yuanbao's favorite is the adorable pink lake exploration area, where there are small slides of different lengths suitable for kids.

There are seesaws in the water, cute mushrooms, interesting little animals, comical teapots, and so on.

The heated spa is perfect for relaxation. Lying lazily in the spa pool, you can take the chance to shake off all your fatigue.

Fifth Floor: Outdoor Experience Park

The fifth floor is mainly an outdoor park, featuring not only the usual merry-go-round, pirate ship, climbing net, and mini train, but also a large outdoor grass slide.

Unfortunately, Magic City is still in its rainy season these days, with showers now and then, so the grass was too wet and the slide was closed. I’ve come twice and still haven’t experienced the grass slide—looks like I'm destined to visit again.

The outdoor park is also an animal-themed wonderland, with lifelike models of stegosaurus, T-Rex, and spinosaurus, and even the merry-go-round is filled with animal elements like gibbons and zebras.

In addition, there is a paid special feature—a children’s pony ride area. Kids can become little knights, or feed carrots to the ponies and have a close encounter with them.

Yuanbao's favorite is the Joyful Mini Train. Accompanied by cheerful music, it travels through jungle caves, and he rode it back and forth several times.

Since most parents bring their kids to Baoyan Paradise and spend the whole day, the park offers a wide range of delicious food options.

The family-friendly western restaurant on the second floor has an elegant setting with bright colors, offering both fast food and set meals.

There are also tasty fruit juices, perfect for lunch or afternoon tea to recharge quickly.

The Baoyan seafood market on the first floor has fresh seafood like abalone, brown crabs, razor clams, and more.

There's even Australian lobster—you can buy it fresh and have it cooked on the spot. Delicious and affordable, it's a great way for the whole family to feast after a day of fun.

The baby and toddler rest room allows children to take a nap when they're tired. There's also a birthday room carefully designed for kids. If you're tired of the traditional big banquet birthday celebration, why not celebrate a unique birthday at Baoyan?

We spent a wonderful and joyful day at Baoyan Paradise with Yuanbao. This was our second visit, and I can imagine there will definitely be a third, and a fourth. Compared to two years ago, Yuanbao, whose verbal and motor skills have improved by leaps and bounds, is already asking to go back to Baoyan Paradise. A child's happiness and smile never lie. I have no doubt that Baoyan Paradise is itself the fairy-tale parade of Yuanbao's childhood.
