A Spontaneous Graduation Trip

"Taotao, shall we go on a trip after graduation?"

"Sure, where to?"

"Where do you want to go?"

"I want something thrilling."

"How about Shanghai? I saw round-trip flights for under 1,000 yuan. We could go to Happy Valley, and there's even an EDM festival going on right now."

"Sounds good! I haven't been on a roller coaster in ages. Let's go!"

"I'll book it right now."

During the first half of 2020, due to the pandemic, I hadn't traveled outside my province at all. This year I just graduated, and all the graduation trips I used to fantasize about felt impossible to realize. Friends and classmates were busy job hunting or interning, which didn't lift my spirits. Coincidentally, my nephew (Taotao) also graduated this year. After graduation, he went for an internship but wasn't satisfied and quit, so he'd been staying at home for a few days. That's when I thought of inviting him to go out and have some fun, to relax. Amazingly, we bought plane tickets just two minutes after mentioning it! Haha!

TRAVEL PLANS: Joyful Trip to Sheshan

Our Shanghai trip was planned for 4 days and 3 nights. The itinerary is quite relaxing and not rushed at all—perfect for anyone who wants a laid-back trip.

Day 1: Arrive at Shanghai Pudong International Airport in the evening. Stay at a hotel near the airport or in the city center.

Day 2: Head to Happy Valley in the morning. After enjoying the Sky Canopy Extreme Water Show and the EDM festival at night, stay at New Century Grand Hotel Songjiang (even better if you can book the Happy Valley Jiatu Hotel).

Day 3: Have a brunch and go to Maya Water Park. In the evening, stay at a hotel near the airport or in the city center.

Day 4: Sleep in on the last day, stroll around Shanghai, and head back to the airport in the afternoon.

The above is our itinerary round-trip from Chengdu to Shanghai. We used Pudong International Airport for both departure and arrival. It's a bit farther from Happy Valley, so the plan was arranged like this. If you fly into Hongqiao Airport, it will be closer. For reference only~

Don't think spending one day at Happy Valley and one day at the water park is a waste of time—you'll be pretty exhausted after playing. Anyone who has visited before will understand. You can just collapse onto the hotel bed and sleep. Haha.

Conquering Happy Valley—My Youth Returned

In fact, I've only been to Happy Valley twice. The first time was in high school with classmates at Chengdu Happy Valley, and the second time is this time. Coming back to Happy Valley felt like a very, very long time had passed. I hadn't been to an amusement park for all four years of university. Luckily, I made it right after graduation~

Maybe because I hadn't been to Happy Valley for so long, there were some rides I didn't dare try when we first arrived. Luckily, my nephew is quite bold, so the two of us could pump each other up. We spent the whole afternoon playing, covering almost everything. Thinking back now, it still feels thrilling and exciting—I want to do it all over again!

The evening before, we stayed near the airport, since we arrived in Shanghai at night. The next morning after breakfast, we took a ride to Happy Valley and it was almost noon. We planned to spend the whole day there, so we stored our luggage at the entrance.

The lockers are automated. A medium locker costs 40 yuan, a large one 60 yuan. You can open and close it unlimited times within the day. Just set your own password; the account code is the last four digits of your phone number.

Since we had luggage, the two of us rented one large locker. It was quite roomy inside—more than enough for two 20-inch suitcases, plus a backpack.

—— Sunshine Harbor Zone | Romantic Haven, Dream Voyage

It was drizzling when we first entered Happy Valley. It's said that Shanghai has been in its plum rain season these days, and hot summer is coming soon. Although you might encounter rain, the upside is it's cool and not hot. Plus, the rain in Shanghai feels like it comes in spells—it clears up after a while.

Happy Valley is divided into seven themed areas, which I'll mention later. The area right after the entry is called Sunshine Harbor, a romantic haven full of strong British charm.

Both sides are lined with old Gothic-style buildings, making you feel like you're in 19th-century Europe. By the lakeside embankment, you get a panoramic view of the whole park. It's the most open and scenic spot in Happy Valley.

Walking in, you'll see little trains passing by everywhere. Riding the train costs extra—a few dozen yuan for unlimited rides all day. If you bring children, this is something to consider.

Around the corner, you can see promotions for the EV EDM Festival. When we went, the harbor square was already being set up and prepared for the evening performance. The day we visited was the first day of the festival.

? Wonders: Crossing 30° North Latitude ????

It's recommended to tour Happy Valley counterclockwise. After entering, the first ride on the right is "Crossing 30° North Latitude."

This is a large dome-screen flying cinema. With a fantasy, mysterious, and sci-fi themed story, combined with high-tech suspended motion seats and a seamless spherical screen, it delivers an immersive flying experience that traverses time and space across the 30° latitude around the world.

From the outside it didn't look crowded, but inside the queue was actually quite long. Since it was our first stop, we decided to skip it for now and play other rides first, planning to come back later. But we ended up forgetting and never went back. If you visit here, don't miss it like I did—it's a great viewing experience.

—— Happy Times Zone | Dazzling Dance, Everlasting Joy

Moving forward is the Happy Times Zone. Among all the areas, I like this one the most—it's the most crowded and lively, with many fun rides.

The setting of Happy Times is a prosperous early 20th-century European town. Immerse yourself in the happy moments, enjoy the joy, and release your passion amid sky-high screams.

The zone includes eight rides: Wooden Coaster Fireball, Diving Machine, Wave Swinger, Bumper Cars, Darkride, Carousel, Fantasy Gyro, and Firewheel. It's the liveliest area in Happy Valley.

The square has many stalls: candied hawthorns, coconut juice, convenience stores... it's exactly what you'd picture an amusement park to look like.

There was a street magic show going on. Many tourists sat here resting and watching.

We also bought a drink and sat down to rest.

He was performing a rope magic trick and asked a kid to help check it. But the kid looked completely clueless, not knowing what to do. Haha.

? Bumper Cars ??

Remember the bumper cars you loved as a kid? When I was little, going to the amusement park (well, not exactly an amusement park, just a modest entertainment area), this was my favorite. It's a chance to rediscover childhood~

The venue is quite spacious, and lots of people were playing. The more people, the merrier—especially great for families.

We started with this to warm up first, then next we'd tackle Diving Machine. Haha~

? Diving Machine ????

After the bumper cars, we saw there weren't many people at Diving Machine. Hurry to queue!

Before we got on, we watched the whole ride sequence from this spot. After all, I hadn't ridden anything for years—going straight to this needed a bit of mental preparation.

One tower of Diving Machine shoots upward at high speed, while the other plunges down rapidly, going up and down repeatedly, perfectly blending the extreme sensations of ejection and free fall.

Many people might think this is terrifying, but honestly it's not that bad. I think it's less thrilling than a roller coaster. The strong weightlessness only lasts for those few seconds when dropping down, unlike a roller coaster's continuous zero-G. Just that one rush is amazing! Since it had just rained, the ride only started around 1 PM, and there weren't many people yet. Only one side was operating—the rapid-drop side. I think this side is more fun than the other.

Looking up from below, the height seems okay, but when you're actually sitting up there looking down, it's incredibly high. The moment you go up, you might feel a tiny bit of regret. On the way down, my legs were shaking uncontrollably. Seems I was a bit overconfident. Haha.

Oh, one more thing: when we were there, someone's phone fell out. Make sure to leave your phone and other pocket items below. Staff reminds everyone, but some people just don't follow. Good thing it didn't hit anyone; otherwise it could have been an accident!

? Carousel ??

Taotao said: let's ride the carousel to calm our nerves.

The most classic amusement park ride, no doubt. Mostly families and couples ride this. Two big boys on it felt a bit strange???

I have to say, the carousel looks the best in photos, but for thrill-seekers, it's pretty boring. A little buffer, then another thrilling ride next!

? Wooden Coaster Fireball ?????

The most thrilling ride in Happy Valley besides bungee jumping!!! Thrill and recommendation both ?????, highly recommended!!! When I first saw the track and building materials all made of wood, I kept worrying whether it could bear such force. And the wood is exposed to wind and rain—doesn't it rot? (So many questions.)

Wooden Coaster Fireball adopts the world's oldest roller coaster style, using Southern yellow pine—renowned as a super structural material—as the main material, built along the lakeside embankment. It delivers over 10 moments of zero gravity within a hundred seconds, and I think it's the most thrilling ride in Happy Valley.

The best feature is that the queue line has long wooden benches, possibly the only one. Other rides require standing in line. And of course, public displays of affection are abundant.

I saw a girl wearing her face mask over her eyes, which cracked me up. Could it really be that scary? After riding it... the mix of sensations! Not just the thrill of weightlessness, but the key is this coaster sways—feeling very unstable, like you could fly out at any moment. The rapid turns and sharp ups and downs aren't smooth at all. Besides dizziness and neck strain, you must hold the handles firmly, brace your body, and stretch your neck in advance. Everyone should give it a try. After conquering this, the other rides in Happy Valley should be no problem.

? Firewheel ???

It's right next to Diving Machine, not very high, relatively friendly.

360° spins in the air. From the name I thought it spun very fast, but actually it's okay. ? Wave Swinger ??? The name sounds a bit odd, but it's a classic amusement park ride. I was a bit nervous when it slowly started to rise and speed up, but once stable—one word: awesome!

Flying feels very relaxing, not as dizzy as I imagined.

The first time I rode this, I'd gotten a free pass after watching a show. It was very late, so I did this quickly before leaving. I was very young, in elementary school. Back then, this felt terrifying to me, and I was afraid to go to amusement parks for a while. Emmmmm.

—— Shanghai Bund Zone | Golden Age, Fashion Frontier

Time rewinds, letting you experience old Shanghai of the early 20th century. Old Shikumen gates, dazzlingly lit Shili Yangchang... amid the splendor and music, you can waltz through your golden years; among bullets and special effects, witness the cycle of time.

Shanghai Bund Zone is the most locally-flavored area in Happy Valley. Walking here feels like passing through old Shanghai—this is my favorite photo I took.

This is the newly upgraded themed area of Shanghai Happy Valley in 2019. The brand-new Shanghai Bund Zone centers on unique old Shanghai culture. Through cultural displays, transplants, and grafting, it creates era-specific stories, characters, and architecture, presenting a more infectious and penetrating happy world.

The streets here are truly very "Shanghai." There's a photo studio, an old-style noodle house, a cultural creative shop, etc. All decorated in vintage style.

Worth mentioning is the 4D cinema here, featuring a Hollywood blockbuster: "San Andreas" 9+ level! Plunged into a world breaking apart, join Dwayne Johnson to save the world—an unprecedented 4D super-cool experience!

After the rain, Shanghai Bund—a random snap of a reflection.

? Ocean Roaring ????

This is what everyone calls the Pirate Ship. A favorite for all ages.

The two ends of the pirate ship are the most thrilling. Besides stronger weightlessness than in the middle, there's the visual impact—when rising high, you can say hi to friends on the opposite side. The middle seats... I don't think they're worth the long queue. It's quite tame. But some scared people close their eyes, which is really puzzling. Haha. Ride the waves with the pirates, from bow to stern, and embrace the ups and downs.

? Mega Drop ?????

Just to the right of the pirate ship. In my heart, it's only slightly less thrilling than Wooden Coaster Fireball (only these two rides in Happy Valley I give five stars), but it offers the best overall experience.

From afar you can see this giant. Looking up from below, it's so, so high. Everyone passing by can't help but stop and stare.

At first I was a bit too scared to ride this. If Taotao hadn't said, "We came all the way to Shanghai Happy Valley—it would be a pity not to try it," I would have passed. So I got on.

Mega Drop is a new-generation floorless drop coaster, hailed as the "king of roller coasters." It plummets vertically from a peak of 60 meters, giving a taste of freefall thrill.

The queue moves fast—about 30 people can board at once. I originally planned to sit in the second row, but Taotao dragged me to the front row.

Right after going up, a turn and then a high-altitude vertical drop. At first it moves slowly, pausing just before the drop to deliberately build tension—leaving you hanging, feeling helpless.

Then it's typical roller coaster action, but there's a second vertical drop later, just slightly lower than the first.

—— Shangri-La Zone | Mystical Paradise, Exotic Sentiments

Shangri-La, an ideal kingdom hidden deep in the highlands, surrounded by twin snow mountains. Secret Blue Moon Valley, magnificent waterfalls, emerald meadows, galloping horses... everywhere is back-to-nature wild charm.

This is the most vegetated area in Happy Valley, like a miniature primeval forest. Wandering into a "canyon," I fell in love with the quietness here.

The zone includes: Blue Moon Speed Coaster, Spinning Bactrian, Canyon Rafting, Kopje Tower, and Jungle Rescue. Top picks: Blue Moon Speed Coaster and Canyon Rafting. The rest depend on your time and interest.

Walking ahead, you'll find a rest stop called "Shambhala," a place to rest and eat.

? Blue Moon Speed Coaster ????

The coaster is right next to Shambhala, the only coaster in Shangri-La, and the most recommended ride here.

It's slightly off the beaten track. Follow the blue track inward, and you'll arrive. Fewer people in the morning.

From the outside, it seemed empty, but inside we found a queue, mostly students.

It feels like the "younger brother" of Wooden Coaster Fireball, but much smoother. You can even raise your hands while riding. A train carries about a dozen people. It's still a lot of fun.

Exiting through a Shangri-La souvenir shop, the exit itself looks somewhat mysterious.

? Spinning Bactrian ???

Spinning Bactrian is a mini coaster + spinning top combo. Within a second it reaches the central hump; the track is a flat "W" shape.

Compared to a giant frisbee ride, I'd recommend this more. I rode a frisbee once and never want to again—dizzy to the point of nausea. This won't make you uncomfortable like a frisbee.

It suits all ages. After the ride, you'll have satisfied your craving for airtime, and you can even stretch out your hands and let loose.

—— Happy Ocean Zone | Meticulously Crafted, Creative Masterpiece

This themed area is a paradise for kids, so we just stayed for a little while~

It's a colorful dreamlike underwater kingdom, a family-oriented themed zone blending "warmth and romance," experience an "Ocean Carnival"!

Most of the rides here involve water, perfect for afternoon fun.

? Ocean Fantasy Pavilion ??

The Ocean Fantasy Pavilion uses elements like clownfish, coral, and seaweed in its theming. The colorful, diverse jellyfish under dazzling lights exude a strong oceanic vibe. Plus, the 6D virtual coaster "Ocean Star" lets you travel through real scenes and screen illusions. Asia's first indoor aerial multimedia interactive "Ocean Loop" realizes a new form of digital culture-tourism entertainment.

Inside it's quite spacious and very cool—here's a tip: if it's too hot outside, come here to chill.

This is mainly where parents bring kids. We just strolled and rested on the second-floor loop corridor.

I captured a father taking his child to see the jellyfish. In a kid's eyes, everything is unknown and curious.

? Crazy Elves ???

Nearby there's a small roller coaster. Compared to Mega Drop, Blue Moon Speed Coaster, and Wooden Coaster Fireball, this is much gentler.

Looking down from above, "Crazy Elves" doesn't seem scary. Its drops are slower, with many track segments on the same plane.

The coaster slowly ascends. Although not high, its channel isn't wide, giving an illusion of falling. The most thrilling part is the turns, but overall it's still pretty OK.

—— Gold Mine Town Zone | Western Reminiscence, Classic Aftertaste

In this North American gold mine town from over 200 years ago, countless people once had their gold rush dreams. Abandoned trains, humble houses, old mining machines—everything is etched with age; mine tunnels, towers, tents, mine cars bear witness to the town's past prosperity. Play a western pioneer and recall the ancient gold rush trail.

? Gold Nugget ????

This isn't thrilling at all, so why four stars? Because it lifts you high to overlook the entire Happy Valley. It's a must-do in Happy Valley, suitable for all ages.

And of course, another benefit: you can sit down and rest. Playing while resting and enjoying the view—what could be better? No long queues, it holds many people at once. As it rises, it slowly rotates. You just need to sit and take in a 360° panorama of Happy Valley. Warning: photo flood incoming:

While slowly rotating, there's a narration covering every zone and ride, helping you understand Happy Valley better. This is a great spot for photos. If you want another round, just queue up again after getting off.

—— Hurricane Bay Zone | Thrills Galore, Fearless

The last themed area: Hurricane Bay. Here, signs of hurricane and earthquake ravages are everywhere, full of endless adventure. Colorful houses, pirate style, a touch of adventure.

The most appealing ride here for me is Shoot the Chute. It feels like I could never get tired of it. Too bad it was under maintenance when we visited, so we missed it. In Hurricane Bay I recommend it first! Besides Shoot the Chute, there are also Extreme Whirlwind, Perfect Storm, Magic Hat, and Storm Tour. But we were already exhausted, so we only did one ride, saving energy for the evening EDM festival~

? Extreme Whirlwind ???

Everyone calls this the "washing machine"—360° spinning.

It has six arms, each seating five people. The outermost seats are the wildest; I suggest facing outward.

The name says "Extreme Whirlwind," but it's not as fast as imagined. Still, it's quite thrilling, better than a giant frisbee ride, and similar to Firewheel.

¤ "Sky Canopy Extreme" Water Light Show

We found a rest spot near Sunshine Harbor, had some snacks, played games, and waited for the evening's first big show—"Sky Canopy Extreme." It started around 7:30 PM, right on the waters of Sunshine Harbor.

The large-scale cross-media live water show "Sky Canopy Extreme" was designed and directed by French company ECA2 over two years. Based on the Chinese myth "The Creation of the World, the Eternal Sword," it presents fire and water blending, electric lights and fluid shadows, and time travel—a fully immersive sensory shock.

To better present this spectacular cross-media live water show, ECA2 took a year to innovate a new special effect: a "vortex screen" using rotating spray heads to create a giant phantom screen for never-before-seen visual, lighting, and laser effects. Meanwhile, a configuration of "one control room + five auxiliary rooms" achieves seamless multidimensional fusion of music, fountains, full-color lasers, water screens, 3D images, and fireworks.

When the show started, I reacted a bit late. By the time I reached the viewing stands, they were packed. Many people just sat on the back wall.

I finally squeezed inside after a big detour. So many people! Incredibly popular. Photo warning:

At the beginning of time, heaven and earth were connected. A young brave named Yu forged a sword of crystal and hurled it at the sky, determined to find the origin of heaven and earth. Unexpectedly, the divine sword tore through space-time, stopping between heaven and earth. Yu transformed into a divine bird, embarking on a fantastic journey...

There, all things were inverted, like floating in the void. Water surged to the heavens, walking upside down, colorful petal rain... Amidst flowing light and color, black holes suddenly appeared, the lake rose, winds and clouds gathered...

The youth traversed between light and shadow, roaming in the void. Sounds of nature, colorful light waves, mist rose and clouds gathered, guardian angels danced gracefully; light descended, sounds arose, amidst shimmering dream shadows, endless twists and turns...

At the dawn of chaos, the universe was established. There, everything in existence cycles endlessly. Plants grew freely, hundreds of birds soared...

At the beginning of heaven and earth, all was tranquil. In soft Wu dialect, sweet murmurs, children played with kites, the quiet time gradually became lively...

There, soaring up nine levels of the sky, the universe was but a bird's wing away... Vast cosmos, sun, moon, and stars; in an instant, the stars changed, rain fell, clouds soared, waves rose...

There, people danced in the blue waves, water danced gracefully, ribbons fluttered. Suddenly, the divine bird entered gracefully, robes flowing, transforming into human form with the dancers. There, all dreams come true...

The eternal sword suddenly lit up; the youth and divine bird appeared vividly on the water screen, fire and water blended, radiating brilliant light...

¤ Shanghai Happy Valley EV EDM Festival

The water light show was just the warm-up for tonight. Something even more exciting was coming up—the finale event, the EV EDM Festival.

This is also the headline event of Shanghai Happy Valley this summer. The pre-event promotion was huge. I went on the very first night, July 10th. So many people, incredibly lively.

The EDM Festival runs from July 10th to August 30th. Every day at 14:30, 16:30, 19:00, and 19:55, there are DJ and MC live performances.

Here’s a guest list I collected. Anyone you like?

July 18th – Dong Hui

July 25th – Wang Beiche

August 1st – KungFu-Pen

August 8th – Lin Wuyao & Magic Modified Four Great Kings

August 15th – SwagKelly

August 22nd – DJ Tracy

August 29th – Li Bangbang

An astronaut-like giant figure is waiting for you at the entrance, with a globe beside it—very futuristically cool design.

That day there was some light rain, but it didn't dampen everyone's enthusiasm at all.

So cool! It's literally a massive outdoor dance party!

Staying at New Century Grand Hotel Songjiang

We originally wanted to book Happy Valley Jiatu Hotel, but it was fully booked—August was basically all reserved. So we picked a hotel near Happy Valley, the New Century Grand Hotel in Songjiang University Town~

The hotel is located at the intersection of North Renmin Road and New Songjiang Road in Songjiang, adjacent to the New Century Mediterranean Commercial Plaza. Arriving at the hotel, the location is quite good. Besides bus routes, there's also the Songjiang tram nearby. It's just a few stops from the Metro Line 9 station, not far from Sheshan Resort, and close to shopping malls—really convenient.

This hotel is probably the only five-star hotel in Songjiang urban area, offering pretty good value for money within Songjiang University Town.

Entering the lobby, it's quite spacious. The executive lounge is on the left, the front desk on the right.

There's a wall of fame here—seems many celebrities have stayed here, and it has hosted many international leaders.

I stayed in a superior twin room. The room was overall clean and the soundproofing was good. The bathroom had both a shower and a bathtub, and all amenities were complete.

The first day at Happy Valley was exhausting. The second day, we slept in and went to breakfast at 9 AM, but the ambiance was very relaxing.

There are both Chinese and Western options. You just take whatever you like. A wide variety, abundant. Just show your room card to enter.

Taotao wanted to sleep more, so I went alone first. I kind of enjoy the quiet morning breakfast time.

Near the hotel restaurant there's a children's playground. Very thoughtful. If you bring kids, you can take them there.

Oh, if you want to explore around the hotel, I recommend three places:

① Guangfulin Cultural Relics: A bit like a "Little Forbidden City" in Shanghai. The park features ancient-style architecture with a main color of vermilion red. Walking on the stone-paved paths gives a sense of time travel.

② Shanghai Film Park: A great place for photos, with old Shanghai vibes. Requires advance reservation.

③ Thames Town: A leisure villa area styled like British architecture, one of the filming locations for the movie "Tiny Times."

Summer Wouldn't Be Summer Without Water – Maya Water Park Chills Your Summer

Since we came to Happy Valley in summer, Maya Water Park is a must-visit as well~

Shanghai Maya Beach Water Park is a large aquatic amusement park in eastern China, adjacent to Shanghai Happy Valley. It emphasizes both "thrilling" and "family-friendly" elements, blending ancient Maya culture with modern water play experiences.

The park features world-leading dual-track water coaster "Hornet," the world's king of water racing "Octopus Slide," the world's largest interactive water play structure "Maya Water Fortress," and over 30 other rides. Many have won awards from international industry associations for best water ride equipment. There are also star-studded Summer Wave Music Festival, exotic singing and dancing performances, offering extraordinary sensory experiences. In June this year—just last month—the long-awaited water park finally opened!

As usual, here's a guide map. Like Happy Valley, it's recommended to go counterclockwise. The main water rides are concentrated on the right side.

After scanning your ID at the main gate, the lockers are on the right inside. Rent is 30 yuan, deposit 20 yuan.

Then go to the locker and changing area on the right to store your bags and change. We only had one backpack between us, so one locker was enough. When visiting a water park, definitely bring a waterproof phone pouch~

Gear up, GO!

? Wave Rider ??

The first ride you see is Wave Rider, simulating surfing. It's not a large area; only one person at a time.

Though small, the experience is great. I learned a bit of surfing in Bali and was eager to try, but there was a crowd watching, so I chickened out. Emmmm.

Later, a pro came, super steady. But I think I could do it too. (That confident.)

? Feathered Serpent Ring & Sun Spiral ???

This was our first ride, good for warming up. Not extremely thrilling, but you can feel around and get into the groove.

They're actually two rides together: Feathered Serpent Ring on the left, Sun Spiral on the right. Pretty similar. After climbing up, you choose which to play.

The annoying thing: you have to carry your own raft up. I wondered why they don't have a conveyor belt like others. Seriously drains your energy (energy is for having fun). This one is relatively mild, without huge drops, so handheld filming is generally fine.

? Super Tornado & Deep Sea Python ?????

The most thrilling ride at Maya Water Park—the big horn is here! Go, go, go!

23-meter diameter Super Tornado, four-person raft, intense, rapid spins. This is what I wanted to play the most.

The entrances for Super Tornado and Deep Sea Python are next to each other, same height. You can do both. But I think Tornado is the most fun. We did Tornado first, then Python.

Upstairs, quite a few people. Because there were some sporadic drizzles that day, the park wasn't very crowded. Almost no waiting. This one had some queue, so it's pretty popular.

Looking down from above, it's a bit high. Staring too long makes you nervous.

Taotao, me, and a father-and-son duo together. Actually this photo is from a second ride on Super Tornado. First time I didn't dare use my phone to film.

The first plunge into the big horn and reaching the highest point are the most thrilling. The rest is okay. Though I gave this five stars too (for Maya Water Park), it's less intense than Happy Valley's thrills.

After Super Tornado on the left, the Deep Sea Python on the right must also be done.

Deep Sea Python combines twisting, spiraling, and vibrating. From the height of a six-story building straight down to the bottom, it feels like being sucked into an abyss by a huge current. The ride is mostly inside the tube. I think it's okay, not as scary as it sounds. Try it!

? Caribbean Beach ???

Caribbean Beach is the most lively and a must-visit spot in Maya Water Park. The big stretch of water is irresistible—jump in to cool off~

When we arrived, the dancers just finished performing. Missed it, what a pity.

You can also rent a floating ring from outside the beach like they did, lie on it in the water, super comfy. The seawater has waves, not calm. We thought the rental was pricey, so we just went barefoot.

Right after getting in, there was a little show. The host called everyone to gather and watch.

After the show, they sprayed water guns at the crowd. Haha.

The water quality here is quite clean, no debris~

Heading deeper, there's a wave-making machine. The further you go, the bigger the waves. I underestimated them—they're bigger than I expected. Hard to stand steady. We just floated and let the waves carry us to the shallows.

We soaked in the water for about half an hour, then went ashore, planning to find a nearby spot to sit and rest.

One drink each, sitting here watching the beach while sipping—this is the ideal summer life~

? Giant Bowl & Hurricane Eye ????

When we arrived, they were already grouping people outside. I heard Giant Bowl had a 123-meter long slide—very curious.

Many Maya Water Park rides come in pairs. On the left is Hurricane Eye, on the right is Giant Bowl.

Giant Bowl's slide design is special. It feels a bit like a toilet flushing. Haha, go try and see if it resembles one~

Hold your breath, spin through the water flow into the bowl bottom, enjoy the splash thrill!

Hurricane Eye next door is also worth trying. Dive down the crest of a spiraling wave—also a great experience.

? Extreme Water Anaconda ????

Extreme Water Anaconda is in the top right corner of the water park. Claimed to be a water version of a drop tower with four slides—must try!

Just looking at it looks thrilling. Cautious entry for the faint-hearted.

Requirements: height over 1.45 meters, weight between 100-220 jin. Some restrictions apply.

Standing up there, suddenly the pedal beneath opens, instant vertical drop into a translucent body slide. You'll plunge straight down at a speed of 1,000 meters per minute, all the way, charging into the water below!

? Family Slide & Raft Rally ????

On the left is Raft Rally, the red one on the right is Family Slide. We did Family Slide first.

Family Slide has short moments of airtime. Before going up, I worried about flying out. I wanted to film a first-person perspective video, but even after two rides I failed—I didn't dare let go. It brings a thrilling sensation of ups and downs.

Both are 15 meters high. One is an adventure raft slide, the other a family raft slide.

Raft Rally twists and turns along the way. The collisions and spins bring a dizzy feeling.

? Octopus Slide ????

The ride with the most tubes. Groups of eight, with a drop of 17.6 meters.

Before entering, you must put on protective gear. Because you slide down on your own mat, it's easy to get scraped if not careful.

Next to it, each person grabs a mat and heads up.

At the top, there's an instruction session: grip tightly, press abdomen close, cross and bend your calves. You must keep balanced during the slide.

I imagined I could witness the speeding sensation with my own eyes. But in reality, water inside the tube splashes your face so you can't open your eyes. Even if you could, water splashes up when you exit. So after the experience, the whole process was a blur to me.

? Diving Interactive Area ???

Walking past the diving area entrance caught my eye. But this is an extra paid activity. If interested, you can experience it.

At the Diving Interactive Area, you can try snorkeling, scuba diving, underwater walking, and more. You can also get standard diving training courses and earn a PADI Open Water Diver certificate.

Additionally, the area offers underwater weddings, underwater photography, mermaid shows, and other exciting activities.

It feels like a lost civilization under the sea.

Appendix · Practical Tips

— Transportation Guide

— Happy Valley Theme Zones & Rides

Happy Valley is divided into seven themed zones:

1. A romantic haven with an ocean culture backdrop. Ancient Gothic architecture with abrupt windows, pointed roofs, and heavy iron decorations envelopes a strong British charm. There’s a leisure art street showcasing Victorian style and a flying theater that takes visitors soaring. Also, Arthur’s Palace, a multi-functional theater hosting corporate events, banquets, and classic performances, along with over ten other attractions.

2. Scenes of joy everywhere: The wooden coaster "Wooden Coaster Fireball," hailed as the ancestor of roller coasters, brings a visual feast while racing. The "Carousel" runs forever in pursuit of distant happiness, its ups and downs evoking past joys.
