Shanghai's Most Underrated Travel Destination: A Hidden Gem Hotel with Unbeatable Sea Views
"But there are no clean beaches.” That’s the misconception.
In Jinshan District, southwest of Shanghai, there’s a coastal resort that offers everything: blue seas and skies, soft sandy beaches, water sports, and a scenic coastal promenade. All the romantic island vacation elements you can imagine—right here.
It’s Jinshan City Beach.
Just 40 meters from the beach stands a brand-new coastal resort hotel that opened this year: Shanghai Jinshan Coastal The Qube Hotel. Open the window and you’re met with unbeatable sea views; step outside and you’re on the golden sand. The experience rivals Sanya, but at a fraction of the cost.
Let’s unveil this hidden gem today!
A new vacation landmark on the Magic City’s east coastline, with top-notch artistry and family-friendly facilities.
When planning a weekend getaway around Shanghai, most people head to Sheshan, Chongming, or Dishui Lake. Jinshan is often overlooked. Yet Jinshan has a unique vacation vibe, letting you enjoy island-like blue seas and skies without leaving Shanghai.
Jinshan’s advantage is the sea, and it has been maximized to create a 7.2-square-kilometer coastal resort with a 3,500-meter shoreline — Jinshan City Beach.
Many people think Shanghai’s sea is murky, but here the water is surprisingly clear. This is achieved through physical sedimentation, biodegradation, artificial waves, and natural circulation to scientifically improve the beach. A submerged breakwater blocks the turbid East China Sea, creating a city shoreline with golden sand and blue water.
Beside City Beach, a striking 25-story landmark stands out — it’s the highest hotel on the coastline, Jinshan Coastal The Qube Hotel.
The hotel is next to City Beach and Binhai Park. On one side, you gaze at the endless sea; on the other, you’re embraced by a lush green urban oasis. With fresh oxygen around every day, how could you not feel refreshed?
The Qube is a premium hotel brand under Greenland Hotel and Tourism Group, offering high-quality stays for business and leisure travelers with uniquely memorable experiences. At Jinshan Coastal The Qube Hotel, the standout impression is how well it balances artistic flair with family friendliness.
The entrance lobby on the first floor features a dry Japanese garden design complemented by lines and lighting effects, creating a stylish, trendy foyer that makes a striking first impression.
Walk inside, and you’ll see mercury-like art pieces and sculptures scattered around. In the simple, bright space, they elevate the artistic quality and sense of luxury.
The hotel’s lighting is another highlight. The elevator lobbies, lobby bar, and front desk all feature different styles and shapes of lamps, each blending perfectly with the setting. The fixtures are sleek, and the brightness is just right, making every corner of the hotel feel natural, inviting, and comfortable.
The front desk is on the second floor, with three separate stations ensuring maximum privacy during check-in. The light lines above the counters reflect beautifully on the polished marble floor — that’s the visual delight a well-designed hotel brings.
Beyond the artistic design, the family-friendly facilities nearby also let every child have a blast. Just 200 meters away in Binhai Park, there’s a children’s amusement park and a mini zoo, with plenty of rides and activities at very affordable prices.
The amusement rides include a merry-go-round, pirate ship, bumper cars, and more than 10 other attractions for all ages. The zoo corner has monkeys, sun bears, emus, birds, and waterfowl. It’s not huge, but enough to keep kids entertained for a while. And the entrance fee is just 2 yuan — can you believe it?
While the park and zoo aren’t as big as full-scale theme parks, they are far more fun than typical hotel kids’ clubs.
The Magic City’s most beautiful sea-view hotel — lying in bed and gazing at the sea is no longer a dream.
Everyone dreams of a vacation like this: waking up, pulling back the curtains to an endless sea view, and falling asleep to the sound of waves. You can experience exactly that at Jinshan Coastal The Qube Hotel.
Thanks to the hotel’s design and height, most rooms offer unobstructed sea views. The sea-view rooms are 40 square meters, plenty for a comfortable vacation stay.
The rooms are simple, clean, warm, and cozy. The super king-size bed (2 meters) is soft and ensures a good night’s sleep.
The highlight is the big window that frames Binhai Park, Jinshan City Beach, and the two-toned sea. On a clear day, you’ll feel like you’re vacationing in Sanya!
Even the standard rooms enjoy pleasing views. Rows of small red-roofed houses nestled in greenery, all under blue skies and white clouds, create quite a charming scene.
I especially recommend the sea-view suites with 270° panoramas, making your dream of watching the sea from bed come true. If you’re celebrating a birthday or anniversary, the hotel can arrange romantic decorations — an unforgettable surprise.
A feast of sea and sky every day.
The saying goes, “live by the mountains, eat from the mountains; live by the water, eat from the water.” In Jinshan, it’s “live by the sea, eat from the sea.” September marks the start of the fishing season, and the hotel brings fresh East China Sea catches to The Platinum All-Day Dining Restaurant and Pin Zhen Xuan Chinese Restaurant, serving up the taste of the sea in season.
The Platinum All-Day Dining Restaurant on the 2nd floor offers daily buffet breakfast and dinner.
The breakfast spread is varied and delicious — don’t miss the hot spicy meat noodles.
I highly recommend the hotel’s buffet dinner. “Dazzling” doesn’t do justice to its abundance and quality; “over-the-top opulence” is more like it.
At the entrance, a giant spicy seafood pot catches everyone’s eye: crayfish, boiled fish, spicy shrimp, spicy mantis shrimp, scallops, whelks… a tempting spread of red that never runs out. Just these dishes alone are worth most of the price.
The seafood station fills an entire counter—swimming crabs, scallops, mussels, brown crabs, boiled grass shrimp, mantis shrimp… all big, fresh, and unlimited. Doesn’t that make you feel pure bliss?
The hotel has practically moved a whole dessert shop into the restaurant. Colorful treats, beautifully presented, are so tempting that you wish you had two stomachs!
Plus, there’s daily freshly shucked oysters, a wide range of grilled dishes and hot/cold options, a noodle station, dim sum, and two fresh juices each day. This quality and variety cost only 188 yuan per person (original price 238 yuan) — you’ll feel like you’re losing out if you don’t eat here!
Pin Zhen Xuan Chinese Restaurant on the 3rd floor offers sea views from both the main dining area and private rooms, making meals even more enjoyable. It might be the only Chinese restaurant in a Magic City hotel where you can dine with a sea view.

The restaurant specializes in Cantonese and Shanghainese cuisine. Seasonal dishes feature fresh river and sea produce, creatively prepared by the chefs into exquisite plates you’ll remember long after.
The signature dish, Shrimp with Crispy Eel, features large, bouncy shrimp and crisp eel strips, all coated in a sweet and sour honey sauce. The taste is surprising and layered, waking up your palate and appetite.
Steamed Green Crab with Egg White is a feast for the senses. The sweet, tender crab meat and silky steamed egg, elevated by a special sauce, had us practically licking the plate clean! ^_^
On the 2nd floor, there’s also the lobby bar — Q Bar. Spacious and with generously spaced seating, it’s perfect for dates or gatherings, ensuring privacy and comfort.
In the afternoon, enjoy afternoon tea with family and kids, chat, and cherish these rare moments together.
More to come: pool, gym, kids’ club, executive lounge
The hotel began its soft opening at the end of May this year, and many facilities are being gradually completed. The swimming pool, gym, kids’ club, executive lounge, etc. are not yet open but are well worth waiting for.
Once the pool opens, it will be another selling point. It will be large, with high ceilings, great natural light, and plenty of space. Here’s a sneak peek photo.
The gym and kids’ club will each take up an entire floor, showing how committed the hotel is to fun and fitness. The gym will also have sweeping sea views — imagine working out while watching the scenery, and catching stunning sunsets in the evening. Perfect!
The executive lounge sits on the top floor, accessible to Greenland’s premium members or guests booking executive-level rooms and above. Here, you’ll enjoy sea views so beautiful it makes you cry, and a vacation experience unique in the Magic City.
Jinshan City Beach
The hotel is only 45 meters from City Beach, with direct access from the second floor. All guests receive two free tickets to the beach. The beach right in front of the hotel is for wading only, no swimming, so it’s quieter.
Stroll along the seaside boardwalk, feel the sea breeze;
There are also plenty of water activities for all ages;
and sand sculptures to admire. Build sandcastles with the kids, splash in the water, and savor summer water fun. You don’t need expensive flights or hotels — just a one-hour drive and around 600 yuan a night to get a Sanya-style beach vacation. This truly is a low-key hidden gem. It might just be the next dark horse or viral sensation among Shanghai’s suburban resort hotels!
