As you may know, the 10th China Flower Expo is taking place in Chongming this year, with just one month left until the official opening!

The Flower Expo is in full swing, and as a warm-up, the first Chongming Flower Festival is being held at the Expo's South Garden (Dongping National Forest Park), lasting 58 days.

So how should you explore it? Let me share my personal experience to guide you.

The Expo's South Garden, themed 'Blossoms · Chinese Dream', vividly interprets the concept of 'Fragrant Forest – Happy Life Every Day'. Based on Dongping National Forest Park, it has been upgraded to create a landscape of 'one stream, multiple gardens, a hundred cherry blossoms, a thousand purple hues, and ten thousand trees'. It aims to be a world-class eco-island-compatible forest flower garden in the style of Butchart Gardens, featuring rich ecological heritage, fresh natural culture, comfortable wellness environments, elegant humanistic qualities, clean and low-carbon energy, friendly service facilities, and exquisite landscaping. Visitors can enjoy the unique charm of flower-viewing 'on an island, in the countryside, within a forest' and experience the enchanting sea of flowers before the Expo officially opens.

【Fragrant Area】

Entering from Gate 1 of the South Garden, you'll first see the Fragrant Area, which includes the Metasequoia East-West Road, the Flower Stream Cascading Water feature, and more. Tulips are planted in large swaths along the road, underplanted with pansies, creating a sea of flowers.

【Thousand-Meter Cultural Wisteria Corridor】

Currently, as the wisteria blooming season hasn't arrived yet, the purple floral display is not yet visible. Instead, the park has hung large flower balls along the corridor, complemented by seas of tulips and Orychophragmus violaceus on both sides, creating a stunning sight.

To the southwest of the Wisteria Corridor, a Hundred Cherry Forest has been created, highlighting 'one hundred mu of cherry blossoms, a hundred varieties of cherry blossoms, and waterway cherry viewing'.

【Water Walkway】

【Osmanthus Road – Shade-Tolerant Floral Border】

Heading north from the midpoint of the Wisteria Corridor, you'll reach Osmanthus Road, which is currently the longest and most diverse under-forest shade-tolerant flowering border in the country, stretching about 800 meters. It features hydrangeas, hostas, heucheras, and other shade-loving plants.

【Forest Gallery】

The 'Impressions of Chongming – Chen Xiejun and Chen Ying Family Oil Painting Exhibition for the China Flower Expo' is held at the Forest Gallery in the South Garden during the 10th China Flower Expo, displaying a total of 300 works.

【China International Flower Border Competition】

The first China International Flower Border Competition, supported by the Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Shanghai Greening and City Appearance Bureau, Chongming District Government, etc., brings together participants from 26 provinces and cities, 64 floral landscape enterprises, 7 research institutes, and 28 universities across the country.

【Chongming Narcissus Garden】

The Chongming Narcissus Garden covers an area of 760 square meters, with about 80 square meters dedicated to Chongming narcissus. Off-season flowering technology has been used to make the Chongming narcissus bloom in mass.

【Yangtze River Delta Citizens' Garden Competition】

The exhibition area for the Yangtze River Delta Citizens' Garden Competition is located in the Fir Forest Drizzle scenic belt of the forest park, bringing together 30 contestants from Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai, and Anhui. Their works feature various styles such as Jiangnan gardens, Japanese-style courtyards, and American-style flower borders. From design to construction and installation, and even maintenance during the exhibition, everything is completed by the citizens themselves, embodying the concept of 'gardens of the people, by the people'.

【Floral Border Scenic Spots】

Throughout the South Garden, there are also several themed floral border scenic spots, such as 'Welcome Overture', 'Elf Whispers', 'Air Guardians', 'Desert Landscape', 'Ball Garden', 'Wave Garden', etc. Visitors are welcome to discover them.

I'm sure you haven't had enough of Chongming's beauty yet, so let me recommend some other places worth visiting in Chongming.

Chongming Xisha Wetland reopened to the public after renovation on the 15th day of the first lunar month this year. As a free 4A-rated attraction in Chongming, it's a must-visit.

Near Xisha Wetland, there are also Mingzhu Lake Scenic Area and Chongming Lotus Expo Garden, both worth exploring.

Gaojiazhuang Ecological Garden is a comprehensive eco-leisure farm integrating tourism, leisure, vacation, dining, accommodation, conferences, entertainment, and agricultural sightseeing. Its overall layout is full of natural ambiance and pastoral scenery. The garden features a science education experimental base, a fishing club, a harvest picking garden, Qingqu Garden, Fisherman's Wharf, Yingduge Teahouse, a bird culture exhibition hall, folk-custom Mongolian yurts, Gao's Old House, Jixiang Inn, a forest club, a farm-style local cuisine restaurant, and many other areas.
