Skiing in Shorts in Shanghai or Nanjing in the Heat of Summer—So Cool!

Remember last winter when Miaoma, at the ripe age of 42, learned to ski at Club Med? Hehehe~

After returning to Shanghai, my skiing skills just vanished.

A while back, a friend egged me on to try something new—skiing in Shanghai in the middle of summer, wearing shorts!

Huh?! In shorts? But wouldn't it be warm with no snow and ice? How does that work?

Before summer vacation hit, Miaoma went ahead to scout it out for the little rascal. Turns out it's Fuyouxue, which shares the same Fosun daddy as Club Med! Really interesting!

Even a 3½-year-old tot can ski here—it's a fantastic sports activity for the summer, perfect for getting some exercise!

I visited the Fuyouxue in Xuhui Binjiang—it's not huge, with a small, snowy white 'ice and snow' slope. Expecting to be freezing cold, Miaoma walked in and—wait, it's not cold? Looking closer, the floor was actually a carpet, or rather, a 'carpet-style conveyor belt'!

It's actually the world's most advanced indoor skiing simulator that Fuyouxue has brought in. The best thing about it? You can ski anytime, any season, without worrying about the weather or temperature.

The handsome coach was super nice (wonder if he's reading this right now~ hahaha~). He first asked about my skiing experience, and once he knew that I! CAN! SKI!, he helped me into my ski boots, helmet, and protective gear, steered me onto the slope, and began explaining the differences between the simulator and real snow.

Wow, Fuyouxue's coaches are all certified by the national ski instructor program—every step of their instruction is professional yet easy to understand. For example, the simulator works just like a treadmill. The coach started the machine at a slow speed, and I needed to keep my body stable while watching myself in the front mirror, noticing when I reached the top of the slope so I could prepare to ski down.

If you're a total newbie, no worries. The coach will put on skis and hold the lever in front with you, explaining the stance and technique from scratch. Basically, a beginner can get the hang of it after just one or two lessons. It's truly a customized one-on-one VIP ski lesson service. And if you get a drop-dead gorgeous coach like mine, hahahaha~ then grab a multi-session pass and go ski a few more times!

Even though Miaoma CAN! SKI!, the simulator still feels a bit different from real slopes. The moment I was carried to the top, I tensed up. The coach immediately reassured me, 'Don't worry, just move your feet and try skiing down!' Hah, following his advice, nervous Miaoma actually glided down smoothly! Yay! Nice! Thumbs up for myself!

On my first run I couldn't help grabbing the pole, but the second time was much smoother.

Another plus of the simulator is that you can adjust the speed and incline at any time based on your skiing level. The coach gradually sped things up for me—if my technique gets better, I'll be able to ski non-stop, smooth as can be!

Honestly, this easy ski style is great (after all, up north it can take half an hour just to gear up and hike to the slope!). You could go practice every day—15 minutes on the simulator equals 5,000 meters of skiing; one hour on it matches six hours outdoors! It works your balance, shapes your body, strengthens legs, and for weight loss, hahaha, it's a sure thing!

Even more important, for a little rascal who doesn't get enough exercise, this kind of sport—available anytime, anywhere, rain or shine—is just perfect!

Think about it: kids aren't allowed in the gym, but this workout is exactly the kind where the whole family can join in and ski to their heart's content! Fun and great for physical and mental health!

Each Fuyouxue outlet also has some electronic games—for instance, the one in Xuhui Binjiang has a shooting game. After skiing, you can eat, drink, and stroll around the mall—so much fun!

Here are a few key points:

Fuyouxue currently has 8 locations nationwide, with 5 in Shanghai alone.

No need to worry about bringing your own gear—every session includes a full set of ski equipment, protective gear, and professional guidance from a senior ski instructor throughout the lesson.

To ensure quality, each class has no more than 6 students. If you're lucky like me and it's an empty time slot, you get a completely one-on-one experience! Having the handsome coach all to myself! Hahaha~

The schedule is very flexible too. Classes start at 10 a.m. every day, with a new session on the hour, giving you 12 time slots to choose from each day. Just book one day in advance.

Fuyouxue's ski lessons cater to a really wide age range—from 3½ to 55 years old, so the whole family can learn together!
