A Cruise-Style Getaway on Jinji Lake: Stealing Half a Day of Idyllic Leisure

This city where I once lived for eight years and then left for eight more feels both familiar and unfamiliar. Walking by Jinji Lake with you so many times, memories rush back like a tide. Over these years, Suzhou has changed dramatically, and so has the Industrial Park. The Oriental Gate, Suzhou's new landmark, has become a must-visit Instagram spot for everyone coming to the city. Yet one thing remains unchanged, the ever-famous Jinji Lake.

The winter sun is something many are captivated by. A winding boardwalk across the lake is both a scenic highlight and a beloved spot for fitness walkers. It might be the weekend, but from morning till night, you can see people jogging and strolling here—so relaxed and delightful.

It's a rare slow life for our family of four, and I thoroughly enjoy such a lovely weekend. I remember when I used to pass by this cruise ship by Jinji Lake, I couldn't help but look twice. Now, tonight, I sleep by the lake, stealing a moment of leisure from the floating life. Checking into the cruise-themed Crowne Plaza Suzhou, the hotel looks like a cruise ship docked on the shore of Jinji Lake from a distance.

The lingering scent of Christmas still hangs in the air. As you step into the lobby, the first things you see are a giant Christmas tree and a festively decorated Christmas house—a must-stop photo spot for all guests. Of course, we couldn't resist taking our own souvenir shot.

Crowne Plaza Suzhou is a luxury cruise-themed hotel right next to the scenic Jinji Lake. It's easily reached via the Suzhou Industrial Park exit of the Shanghai–Nanjing Expressway, then straight along Xiandai Avenue to Xinggang Street. The lakeside walking trail, Oriental Gate, Suzhou Central, Lakeside Xintiandi, Ligong Causeway, Suzhou International Expo Center, and the Cultural and Arts Center are all just steps away.

Not only does the hotel look like a cruise ship from the outside, but the interior also follows a cruise layout. Open the door to an elegant room brimming with modern touches and nautical elements. From the floor-to-ceiling windows, you can take in the shimmering views of Jinji Lake. The room is spacious, bright, and extremely comfortable.

The five-star amenities are all here: safe, minibar, fridge... The bathroom is large enough with double sinks, so even our family of four can freshen up without feeling cramped. The toilet is smart, the hairdryer is Dyson, and the bath products are custom-made by Italian brand Borghese—truly top-notch. Sitting at the desk by the window, I daydreamed about having such a cozy little home of my own one day.

Traveling with little ones, we couldn't miss the hotel's thoughtful family-friendly facilities and services. There are two children's play areas—one indoor and one outdoor—plus a kids' cinema, VR experiences, clown interactions, cotton candy, popcorn, and more. All designed to make family trips more relaxing and enjoyable.

The indoor playground is well heated. Mengmeng was in a playground for the first time, and she had a blast with the toy cars, slide, swings, ball pit, Lego, and more.

On a clear day, you can take the kids to the outdoor playground for a fun run-around and some fresh air.

On the seventh floor, the Executive Lounge offers 360-degree panoramic lake views. In the afternoon, invite some friends, escape the noise, and enjoy quiet moments here, talking about life and dreams. It's open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The gym and swimming pool are on the lower ground floor. In the midst of busyness, don't forget to exercise—only with a healthy body and mind can you do more beautiful things and chase your dreams.

Winter days are short, and night falls quickly. I'd heard that Suzhou's night views are stunning. Sadly, I didn't have much time to explore, but I did snap a photo of the Oriental Gate at night from the hotel's deck. Then, the lavish dinner buffet at Shengxi was waiting for us.

Shengxi, the all-day dining restaurant featuring global cuisine, still wore its Christmas decorations with twinkling lights everywhere—I loved the atmosphere. The food here is abundant: seafood, steak, and you can even enjoy fresh coconut juice, making you feel like you're on a tropical island vacation.

Can I say I'm a seafood fanatic? At a buffet, I mostly go for seafood. I'd just had my fill of seafood in Sanya a few days earlier, but seeing the spread at Shengxi still made my eyes light up.

Night shouldn't be bewitching, but at the retro cruise-style bar, Mariana, with smooth piano jazz and a flavorful cocktail, the ambiance was just perfect. Once in a while, on such ordinary days when nothing seems to cause a ripple, a moment to reflect on day and night, and the changing seasons—perhaps that's what life is about.

Sleeping by the lake, stealing a moment of leisure from the floating life. Good night, little ones. Good night, world.

It's rare to sleep in until I wake up naturally. We skipped breakfast and went to Ting Bar, the cheerful American-style restaurant, for brunch. The hotel staff told us that Ting Bar is often booked out for private events, so be sure to reserve in advance.

If you're on a romantic getaway for two, you can't miss the Energy Star Couple's Set at Ting Bar—avocado quinoa salad, Spanish garlic shrimp, and a Texas wagyu burger. Absolutely super delicious.

A gentle breeze blows away the fatigue. I always want to give you the best the world has to offer. After lunch, we strolled by Jinji Lake, pausing now and then. In the distance, there's Peach Blossom Island without the legendary Guo Jing and Huang Rong; close by, the lake rippled gently. You can also hop on a sailboat by Jinji Lake and blend into the beautiful scenery.

Life is full of unexpected encounters. No matter how many inspirational quotes you read, nothing beats a leisurely afternoon tea with family and friends, chatting about life, daydreaming, and talking about the things you love.

On the first floor, Xiangming Fang is a relaxing spot for afternoon tea and conversation. During the romantic and beautiful Christmas season, Xiangming Fang created a special gift box for this annual celebration. Both its looks and flavors were so delightful that you'd be reluctant to consume them, full of surprises.
