The building was designed by Pritzker Prize laureate, renowned French architect Christian de Portzamparc. It sits by 太湖 on the shore of 苏州湾, forming a unique landscape with its surroundings and offering visitors a truly distinctive experience.
The museum’s exterior takes on a naturally undulating shape like a silver ribbon by 苏州湾, its “flowing” symbolism coinciding perfectly with the curves of classical Suzhou roofs and musical themes.
This giant urban terrace allows people to easily approach and embrace the lake and sky – the “between heaven and human” is exactly where Chinese philosophy and poetry reside.
Walking into 苏州湾博物馆 is more like entering a three-dimensional Jiangnan ink-wash painting.
On the first floor, the special exhibition “Imperial Encounters in Jiangnan – Qing Court Treasures Collection,” co-organized with Nanjing Museum, lets you revisit the Qianlong Emperor’s southern inspection tour sites with cultural relics, revealing the splendor, solemnity, and mystery of Qing court collections.

Qing dynasty court collections are a highly distinctive chapter in the history of Chinese imperial collecting. This exhibition features 101 pieces (sets) of Qing court display objects from the Nanjing Museum collection, vividly presenting the aesthetic tastes of the Qing royal court and allowing everyone to appreciate the treasures while experiencing the charm of traditional Chinese culture.
Layers of light and shadow are drawn into the interior through the glass curtain wall. Amidst the flowing brilliance, infinite splendor unfolds. Here, you can encounter art, play with light and shadow, converse with history, and enjoy a personal journey of illumination.
The fourth floor houses the permanent exhibition “Elegance of Wu in Jiangnan – Wujiang Historical and Cultural Display.” Themed “Elegance of Wu in Jiangnan,” this display is not to be missed. It involves historical sites from the Liangzhu, Songze, and Majiabang cultures, comprehensively recording Wujiang’s development from the Neolithic Age to modern times.
The exhibition even recreates a silk shop, rice store, and dyehouse in real scale, encapsulating the prosperity of Jiangnan market towns in the Ming and Qing dynasties, the rise of modern industry, and the transformation of markets and economy.
Every exhibit here is poetic and picturesque, making you feel as if you are in the ancient city of Suzhou, imbued with its unique literary atmosphere. Strolling softly, looking at those exquisite porcelains and antique calligraphies and paintings, you can almost hear history’s whispers and murmurs.

This restaurant enjoys a long-standing reputation in the local area. During meal times, private rooms must be booked in advance.
The hotel’s interior design is ingeniously crafted, merging classical and modern elements to create a strong artistic ambiance.
Amidst the myriad romances of Chinese style, the depiction of nostalgia is especially exquisite. Thus, the phrase “莼鲈之思” (longing for water shield and perch) has been penned countless times by homesick poets. This allusion is deeply connected to 东太湖 and has become a shining point in the long history of Wu cuisine.
Suzhou-style fried fish and 震泽 dried tofu encapsulate the essence of many cold dishes. Notably, the 震泽 dried tofu comes as a black-and-white duo, not only eye-catching in presentation but also richer in flavor layers.
The 莼鲈之思 soup is meticulously prepared with superior ingredients, offering excellent texture and a lingering aftertaste. The perch in the soup is masterfully handled: the slices are crisp while the flesh is tender, with the umami flavor standing out.
The four hot dishes – stir-fried shrimp, steamed white fish section, 年华套肠, and 庙港 fragrant greens – are all carefully selected for their ingredients. The steamed white fish is cured by the hotel itself, exemplifying 嘉年华大酒店’s philosophy of “no pre-made dishes.”
The pan-fried dried cauliflower cake as a snack brings many surprises: slightly sweet cauliflower combined with a slightly crispy glutinous rice cake creates a delicate texture.

苏州湾大剧院 boasts a breathtaking architectural facade, like a giant ship sailing into an ocean of art, guiding you to explore endless cultural treasures.
Inside, exquisite decoration and high-tech facilities complement each other, creating an intensely artistic viewing environment. Every weekend, you can enjoy wonderful performances from around the world, feeling the unique charm of music, dance, and drama by the lake. That evening, I happened to catch the classic Mahua drama “The Earl of Wulong Mountain” starring Allen. Together with “Charlotte’s Troubles,” this classic work has witnessed the growth and sublimation of the Kaixin Mahua troupe. Its performance charm endures, and its popularity is evident from the full house. Unfortunately, photography was not allowed during the performance; only the curtain call allowed photos of the actors. Even so, it didn’t dampen the audience’s enthusiasm at all. Laughter filled the entire show, and familiar internet memes were appropriately woven into the performance, bringing the actors closer to the audience. The mention of “Wujiang” and “东太湖” also made the audience feel especially warm. Returning to the hotel after the show, those wonderful moments still flashed in my mind. What a delightful day.
DAY 2:
Lakeside stroll: fully enjoy the unbeatable scenery of 东太湖度假区
Time: 7:30–10:00
After breakfast, I recommend taking a walk by the lake at 东太湖度假区 if you have time. This way, you can get closer to what life should ideally look like. You’ll soon discover it is a modern, open ecological leisure park, fully equipped with greenery, squares, buildings, bridges, corridors and pavilions, garden paths, wooden footbridges, children’s playgrounds, and more. Whether it’s a passer-by jogging by, a cyclist admiring the lake views, or a vintage sailboat cruising on the lake, all make the romance of this moment incredibly real. Compared to a bustling city life or the crowded ancient Jiangnan water towns, the leisurely and romantic feeling 东太湖度假区 brings is hard to put into words.
苏州湾数字艺术馆: Open up new horizons with an immersive metaverse experience

苏州湾数字艺术馆 is the nation’s first full-scene digital art museum, blending numerous technologies with art. Right past the security check, a giant visual feast created by digital technology greets you. Whether it’s high mountains and flowing water or a futuristic cityscape, the glasses-free 3D visual effect makes everything exceptionally stunning. Wandering through the gallery, you feel as if you are in a dreamlike art world, experiencing the infinite allure of digital art. “Lingjing – Future Inspiration World” is the permanent blockbuster exhibition at 苏州湾数字艺术馆. In this fully digitalized space, you can travel back to the Stone Age and appreciate the 10,000-year history of human art from prehistoric cave paintings to contemporary art. With AR technology, you can enter a classic scene of the Tuisi Garden in Suzhou. You can pass through a “wormhole” and experience a day as a future garden designer, an intelligent painter, or a mechanical dancer – countless magical experiences that simple words cannot describe. The museum also offers many fun interactive experiences; nearly every display area or screen invites visitor interaction. I recall one design called “Scent Memory,” which uses facial recognition to analyze your expression, assess your current psychological state, and then spray a corresponding fragrance. Interestingly, your mood in the next second might no longer match that scent. In the wonderful “Perceiving Suzhou” space, an 8K screen crystal-clearly depicts the renowned “Prosperous Suzhou Painting,” which is awe-inspiring. Using the control panel, you can even zoom in to observe the dynamic details of the painting, immersing yourself in it. Currently, the special exhibition in the temporary hall is “Journey Through a Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains – Palace Museum Immersive Art Exhibition.” “A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains” is a legendary masterpiece by Wang Ximeng of the Song Dynasty, the original rarely shown to the public. Now, it has been deconstructed and reinterpreted through various digital technologies, reactivating the originally static landscape painting back into its primordial dynamic state, giving contemporary audiences the feeling of “mind within mountains and rivers, man wandering within the painting” in a digitized world. The whole museum combines technology, education, culture, art, and entertainment into an immersive experience for vision, hearing, and touch. Through the gaps, you can vaguely see several three- or four-story buildings inside. Some are simple with white walls and grey tiles, while others have the flavor of a Western bell tower. Two of them are connected by a corridor, blending Chinese and Western styles perfectly. Given Nan Huai-Chin’s deep knowledge of Confucianism, Daoism, and Buddhism, as well as his incorporation of Western culture, the layout of the academy clearly reflects its special symbolism. Arriving at 太湖大学堂, you can immediately experience the profundity of Chinese classics. Outside the window, the picturesque lake and mountains complement the academy’s antique charm. I wandered through its various spaces, feeling the sense of history and cultural richness emanating from every inch. Staying here long enough, you can almost hear the passion and perseverance of ancient scholars splashing ink and composing poetry. 上书洲书院 exists like a bridge of time, linking the past and present, communicating between civilization and nature. Entering 悦食堂 is like walking into a poetic painting, ancient and elegant. I have to say, this is still a treasure of a restaurant – you might truly rarely encounter such delicious braised wild white fish. I heard that the boss has a secret sauce in addition to the usual seasonings – to me, it seems more like a mysterious sauce. Having visited so many Jiangnan restaurants, it was the first time I tasted braised wild white fish with this sweet-spicy flavor. The freshness of the ingredients further elevates the dish. No wonder it is the most ordered dish among returning customers – highly recommended! At 悦食堂, fine food and beautiful scenery dance together.
