Solo Australia Part 23: Bondi Beach, Sydney

7-30 Sydney is a coastal city with countless natural beaches of all sizes. The most popular among locals and tourists is Bondi Beach. The sand is white, fine, and clean, and the waves in the bay are high, making it especially suitable for surfing. Today was cloudy. After breakfast, I packed my lunch and set off for a walk by the sea. I chose to take the train to the nearest station, then strolled for 40 minutes to reach the coast. There is a walkway along the coast, and every step offers a different view. The cliffs, battered by sea wind and waves, look weathered and yet so unique. Today it was cloudy, and the sea appeared deep and mysterious in color. But there were still people riding jet skis amidst such big waves. The beach was not crowded in winter. The freshwater pool by the sea, nearly level with the ocean, was completely empty. Bondi Beach has an outdoor ice skating rink, also empty. The graffiti along the beach stretches for hundreds of meters, each piece full of personality. Walking barefoot on the sand, I grabbed a handful—it was fine and sparkling. I also saw a dead squid washed ashore, nothing but a skeleton. I sat by the sea, eating my packed lunch, watching groups of surfers plunge into the water. As I sat there daydreaming, the clouds dispersed. I took a few photos of the coast in the sunlight and then headed home.

The last photo is a 10-second exposure capturing the trail of an airplane.

After half a day of idling by the sea, my heart felt calm. I wished time could stop forever like this. Blue sky, white clouds, sunshine, sea, sand, waves, and those chasing the waves.
