Solo Australia Part 2: Arrival

On 6-15, I went to Nanchang and stayed at a relative's home. On the morning of 6-16, I flew from Nanchang to Guangzhou and stayed at the Hainan Airlines Pilot Building, where I ate the staff meal for pilots and flight attendants. On the morning of 6-17, I took a ride to the airport with several pilots and flight attendants who were incredibly handsome and stunningly beautiful. Because I had timed things too tightly, and since Guangzhou had just launched a direct flight to London, the number of outbound passengers at the international terminal surged, resulting in long queues for baggage checks and exit inspections. Seeing that time was running out, I shamelessly cut in line and also took a 20-yuan electric cart inside the terminal to race to the boarding gate. Gosh, the cart drove for five minutes—if I had walked, I definitely wouldn't have made it. When boarding, I glanced at the check-in counter: 291 of the 296 passengers had already boarded. Less than ten minutes after I sat down, the cabin door closed... phew... I had a middle seat, but the aisle and window seats next to me were empty, so I quickly moved to the window. Since it was a daytime flight, I enjoyed the beautiful blue sky and white clouds outside the window for a long time, dozed off a bit, and spent a few hours eating breakfast and lunch—time flew by. I must mention that the international flight meals were really sumptuous, well worth the expensive ticket price.

After nine hours of flying, we arrived in Sydney at 17:30 Beijing time, which was 19:30 local time. Before landing, the plane, which had been flying from north to south, turned around to come in from the south over the sea and glide onto the runway. That big turn gave me an aerial view of downtown Sydney. Large patches of lights showed that this was a big city! As soon as I got off the plane, I clearly felt a chill. Australia was in autumn, with temperatures at only 10-15°C. While waiting for luggage, I quickly put on the jacket I had prepared.

When entering the country, I submitted the declaration form I had honestly filled out on the plane. Because my uncle had checked the food items box but hadn't packaged the food separately, we were directed to a Chinese staff member who opened the suitcase and searched through it item by item. The food inspection at immigration is very strict. In the future, food should be packed separately, and the declaration should clearly state exactly what the items are. For things like black fungus, red dates, etc., look up the English words in a dictionary in advance and write them on the declaration form—this will speed up the customs clearance a lot. Don't hide anything; the fines for getting caught are very severe. Since there were no prohibited items, after the inspection we went straight out of the airport. My phone with roaming service was a huge help, allowing me to contact my cousin, who had already driven around the airport several times without finding us. My cousin came with his wife in one car, and a friend came in another car; both cars were packed full, showing how much luggage we had. My uncle had really made full use of the 30 kg per person luggage allowance. After about half an hour on the highway, we arrived at my cousin's home. Property prices in Australia aren't cheap either—over 400,000 Australian dollars for a two-bedroom apartment built in 2000, but it was ready to live in, with permanent ownership, good quality, and looked very new. The surrounding environment was also nice—quiet and convenient. Within a ten-minute walk there were hospitals, schools, and a train station, and it was very close to my cousin's wife's workplace. In short, it was practical for daily living, with good value and even potential for appreciation.

After a few days of tiring travel, it was finally over. After dinner, we chatted a bit and then went to bed.
