Picnic by Lake Macquarie, Enjoying the Lakeside Scenery
We drove north along the Pacific Highway and arrived at Belmont Bay at noon. This is a large lake called Lake Macquarie. Seeing the beautiful lakeside scenery, we parked the car and had a picnic and played there for a while. The lake scenery was quite nice, and there was a group of seagulls waiting for tourists to feed them, not afraid of people at all. These places were never on our itinerary—that's the freedom of a self-driving trip.
Lake Macquarie is the largest saltwater lake in Australia, covering an area of 110 square kilometers. It is a well-known tourist destination in New South Wales.
Lake Macquarie has a very irregular shape, which has given birth to countless beautiful bays and the leisurely towns along them. Dozens of small towns are nestled around the lake, and self-driving travelers can circle the lake to fully enjoy the lakeside scenery.
At the same time, Lake Macquarie is a paradise for water sports. Sydneysiders often tow their boats and fishing gear here for recreation. Travelers can also participate in various activities such as kayaking, fishing, swimming, and windsurfing.
