Take the Free Scenic Cable Car at Taronga Zoo Sydney, Overlook Animals Below and Gaze at Sydney Harbour
Today I came to Taronga Zoo Sydney again, but not to visit the zoo—instead to ride the free scenic cable car and feast my eyes on the beauty of Sydney Harbour. The zoo entrance is at the top of the hill, the exit at the foot, and the ferry is also at the foot. The cable car runs from the top to the foot of the hill, and this stretch is the most beautiful—you can watch the animals and scenery outside the window, and also gaze at Sydney Harbour in the distance. Thanks to the zoo's advantageous location on a hill, it is also an excellent spot to enjoy the views of Sydney Harbour.
Taronga Zoo is situated on a small coastal hill on the north shore of Sydney Harbour, diagonally opposite the Sydney Opera House. Built in 1916, Taronga Zoo is a city park in Sydney and a famous tourist attraction.
This is a hillside zoo with two ways to visit. One is to take the cable car up the hill first and then tour from top to bottom; the other is to tour from top to bottom and finally take the cable car down the hill. We chose the latter method, that is, descending first and then ascending.
Each cabin can hold about 4–6 people. Riding the cable car, you can overlook the dense jungle inside the zoo from above and take in the lovely animals at a glance.
Viewing elephants from the cable car
Sydney's only aerial cable car not only offers a panoramic view of the zoo but also lets you gaze at the beautiful scenery of Sydney Harbour.
So, while visiting Taronga Zoo, you can also enjoy the magnificent views of Sydney Harbour—it's truly two for the price of one.
Gazing at Sydney Harbour, you can take in the famous Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House.
The zoo has its own wharf. From Circular Quay, take a ferry that reaches the Taronga Zoo wharf in 12 minutes, with services every 30 minutes. Upon arrival, take the cable car to enter the zoo.
Visitors line up to board the cable car.
