A Xi'an Girl's New Winter Weekend Getaway in Shaanxi – Save This!
01 Hey, boy, forget about Northeast China, skiing in Xi'an is awesome too
Xi'an – just the name itself evokes a sense of ancient charm. When you travel here, you'll find: the Big Wild Goose Pagoda standing for a millennium; the thousand-year hot spring hidden in Huaqing Palace; and all kinds of snack streets tucked away in the city. This time, a Xi'an girl takes you to explore a different Xi'an.
Huaqing Palace: Entrance ticket: 120 RMB/person (40 RMB for Xi'an residents)
Huaqing Palace hot spring ticket: 295 RMB/person
Camel Bell Legend show ticket: from 238 RMB
Zhaojin Ski Resort: weekday ticket 128 RMB / weekend ticket from 198 RMB
To fully appreciate the charm of the ancient capital Xi'an, a visit to Huaqing Palace is a must.
This place is incredibly romantic.
Whether it's the vow of love at the Palace of Eternal Life on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month,
Or the cause-and-effect of 'a ride of dust brings the smile of a concubine'...
It's always filled with classics and legends.
The palace before you is over a thousand years old,
While the plants in the garden wither in autumn and bloom in spring.
Among all the waters, my heart belongs to Huaqing Palace.
Whether in Hanfu or everyday clothes, wandering here gives you a time-travel feel.
You can rent high-quality Hanfu in many places in Xi'an.
Worried about doing your hair?
Most shops also offer makeup and hairstyling!
This time I chose Ming-style Hanfu –
After all, Xi'an in winter is reeeally cold.
Let me show you photos I've taken in Hanfu at Huaqing Palace over the years.
Still Ming-style Hanfu:
In winter, be sure to add a cloak – it keeps you very warm.
Winter is for soaking in hot springs: when you come to Huaqing Palace in winter,
Besides dressing up in Hanfu for a garden stroll,
You must try the same hot spring as the imperial concubine.
Hot springs flow day and night, the past sadness long gone.
What we see today is a partial reconstruction on the original site;
It gives us a glimpse into the opulence of the Tang Dynasty.
Speaking of hot springs, it's said there are 2,800 hot springs in the world,
But Huaqing Palace ranks second, and no one dares claim first.
If you just follow the crowds and rush through,
You won't truly feel the gorgeousness and grandeur of Huaqing Palace.
You must soak in the imperial-concubine-style hot spring to know its true pleasure.
This 3,000-year-old hot spring still flows.
It once witnessed the icy beauty of Baosi and slid over the smooth skin of Lady Yang.

Would you come to Xi'an for a poignant love story,
A soak in the imperial concubine's hot spring,
Or a steaming bowl of yangrou paomo (crumbled flatbread in mutton stew)?

Huaqing Palace hidden tips:
Girls in Hanfu, be sure to wear a cloak (winter Hanfu essential) and bring heat packs.
Stay at Huaqing Royal Hot Spring Hotel, where you can enjoy a private hot spring in your room ? (backyard spring or in-room spring, depending on room type).
Don't forget your swimsuit!
Camel Bell Legend show:
When visiting Xi'an in winter, the Song of Everlasting Sorrow is off-season. What other show can you watch?
This Xi'an girl highly recommends Camel Bell Legend.
This grand stage play performed entirely in Shaanxi dialect brings the distant Western Regions, mysterious camel bells, and a beautiful story to life, so touching and thrilling.
Although the ancient camel caravans are long gone, we can still experience those old tales and feel the heart-wrenching grandeur of history through this beautiful stage play – Camel Bell Legend.
The 60-minute show flies by in a flash. The narration is all in Shaanxi dialect, and at least five times the audience bursts into exclamations of 'Whoa!' – that's the best praise for the play.
The highlight is the stunning stage design:
? Starry skies, heavy snow, deserts
? Real wolves and camel herds
? A slowly rising giant Buddha
? Movable audience seating
These are all reasons I love it.
Don't believe me? Check out my show photos below.
It's absolutely worth watching.
If hot springs are a must-do in Shaanxi tourism, adding skiing makes it perfect.
These two activities are the unbeatable combo for a weekend getaway.
You don't need to go to Harbin; right at your doorstep, you can experience a high-quality ski resort: Tongchuan Zhaojin Ski Resort.
It's currently the largest ski resort operating near Xi'an.
? Total snowmaking area about 130,000 sqm, slope length 2,943 meters.
? You can hire a coach by the hour – after some tips from the coach, this girl skied down smoothly on her first try! ?
? Convenient dining and accommodation nearby.
? Book tickets online in advance for better deals.
You can hire a coach for an hour.
Trust me, you'll fall in love with skiing,
Because the coach teaches you moves and techniques to minimize falls.
After all, falling really hurts.
Here, let's strike a few cool poses.
Though I'm still just a double-board newbie.
After skiing, you must follow up with another hot spring session.
I chose Yulongwan Hot Spring, located at the foot of Mount Taibai, the highest peak of the Qinling Mountains.
It's huge, with pools of all sizes scattered around, giving it a vibe like Japanese hot springs.
Haha, since no photos are allowed in the pools, you'll have to go and experience it yourself!
