Every visit to Xi’an never fails to surprise me. This world-renowned historical city boasts historical relics such as the Terracotta Warriors, the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, Mount Li, and Huaqing Pool. Looking back at Chang’an during the flourishing Tang Dynasty, the profound history and rich cultural atmosphere give the city a strong sense of inclusiveness. Now, at last, you can also experience The Romance of Xi’an in the city itself. Praised as a 'once-in-a-lifetime must-see show,' its chief director Huang Qiaoling has built more than a dozen productions in The Romance series nationwide and internationally.

The Romance of Xi’an is not a simple retelling of history; it uses unique artistic expressions and incorporates many elements of Xi’an’s local culture to present a popular and captivating work. The centerpiece of the whole scenic area is the large-scale song and dance performance The Romance of Xi’an. With the storyline of a young Chinese overseas girl returning to seek her roots, it embarks on a journey to rediscover ethnic memories. It is divided into chapters like 'The Dawn of Banpo,' 'Zhou Dynasty Elegance,' 'Yu the Great Tames the Flood,' 'The Great Tang Dynasty,' and 'The Silk Road.' The Romance of Xi’an is not a simple recounting of history; through unique artistic techniques, it weaves the splendor of Tang Dynasty Chang’an into the performance, making the whole show more immersive and expansive. Using high-tech methods such as sound, light, and electricity, the stage is transformed into an immersive artistic feast.

Beginning with 'The Light of Civilization,' the prologue, the performance takes you along the thousand-year river of Xi’an’s history, witnessing the continuous development and change—from farming culture to pottery-making, fishing, and hunting, then to building houses and agriculture, creating the history of human civilization—the first ray of sunlight of the ancient East’s time-honored civilization.

'The Ba River Islet': To the clear, melodious calls of ospreys, a group of carefree young women dance gracefully among the willows along the Ba River. They sing the famous lines from the Book of Songs: 'Guan-guan go the ospreys, on the islet in the river. A graceful lady, a gentleman’s desire.' On this land that gave birth to the Book of Songs, China’s first collection of poetry, we feel as if we are transported across millennia to the enchanting Ba River shore.

'Yu the Great Tames the Flood': Throughout human history, there are many myths and legends, and Yu the Great taming the flood is one most people are familiar with. It was precisely because of the perseverance and fearless spirit of this people and this individual that peace and stability were brought to the Chinese nation, both then and now. Yu the Great is a person, and more than that, a symbol of spirit. Using high-tech sound, light, and electricity, the show creates surging, towering waves. In the face of life and death, the self-sacrificing fearlessness is truly moving.

'The Great Tang Dynasty': The Tang Dynasty was the most glorious era of the Chinese nation, and its most representative city was the ancient Chang’an. Integrating Xi’an’s local historical and cultural characteristics, the performance showcases the brilliance and splendor of the Tang Dynasty from economic, social, and cultural-artistic perspectives.

'The Silk Road': Xi’an was the starting point of the ancient Silk Road and a vital hub connecting the vast northwest and southwest. In human history, a distant journey to the Western Regions meant long treks and countless hardships. Rolling yellow sands could swallow a life at any moment. In the struggle against nature, countless people sacrificed themselves. Along this lifeline, many epic love stories unfolded.

'The Great Revival': Remembering history and looking toward the future, we inherit and carry forward along the river of history, from the ancient Silk Road to the Maritime Silk Road, stepping into a new era of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through change and development.

This is The Romance of Xi’an, a grand immersive song-and-dance show lovingly created by Songcheng. The one-hour performance leaves you wanting more. In addition to the main show, the scenic area features multiple live-action performances at different times. A large screen scrolls the daily schedule and locations of shows like 'Guofeng Flash Mob,' 'Guozhuang Carnival,' 'Huayin Old Tune,' and more than ten other shows—enough to dazzle you and fill a whole day of fun!
