Summer in Xi'an: Explore Nighttime Beilin, Influencer-Recommended Hotspots
Summer in Xi'an is different from other furnace cities. Although daytime temperatures often reach 37–38°C, the nights are free of that sticky, humid heat. A cool summer breeze feels refreshing and delightful. That's why locals enjoy a vibrant nightlife, and visitors from out of town are often enchanted by the city after dark.
The Bell Tower is Xi'an's central landmark. The four main streets—East, West, South, and North—radiate from it, and once you see the Bell Tower, you know you've 'entered the city.' It's easily accessible by metro from the airport, high-speed train station, or railway station. The rotary around the tower splits into four corners; three of them fall within Beilin District.
To boost new nighttime economic activities in Beilin and unleash its after-dark consumption potential, while showcasing the district's night culture and tourism resources, several local influencers joined a 'Night Tour of Beilin' check-in event. They immersed themselves in the charm of Beilin's abundant nighttime offerings and the bustling, fashionable hum of this metropolis.
On a weekend, gathered at Kaiyuan Mall beside the Bell Tower just as the sunset glow faded, we gazed down at the tower's nighttime silhouette. Anciennes and modern chic blended before our eyes. This was the city's earliest commercial hub, a place old Xi'an locals still cherish. The ceaseless traffic and urban buzz are at their peak here. Nearby, Luomashi Pedestrian Street was like a little Hong Kong back in the day, with clothes displayed on folding beds setting the fashion trends of Xi'an. Today, modern shopping complexes have risen, offering everything from dining and entertainment to shopping.
Heading south from the Bell Tower, you reach Yongning Gate, which locals simply call the South Gate. The Xi'an City Wall · Beilin Historical and Cultural Scenic Area is a national 5A tourist attraction. The wall and Beilin are both classic Xi'an sights. The wall holds the memory of the old city's complete outline, while Beilin is a world-famous treasure house of stone inscriptions. Stand atop the wall and take in the magnificent nighttime cityscape!
Outside Yongning Gate to the east lies Liuyuan. Lean on the railing along the moat in Huancheng Park and quietly feel the water flowing and the comfort of the summer breeze on your face.
Continue east along Shuncheng Alley to the southeast corner of the wall. Jianguomen Market has become an internet-famous check-in spot since its renovation. The transformed neighborhood cultural and creative block has injected new life into the old market. Among Xi'an Ming City Wall's four corners, the southeast one is the most eye-catching. Its corner tower is perfectly intact, making it an ideal spot to capture sunset and evening clouds against the ancient wall and tower. At night, when decorative lights illuminate the wall and tower, the nighttime corner takes on a whole new character and charm, distinct from its daytime appearance. It has naturally become a unique scenic spot in Xi'an. Photography lovers must come here—it's an absolutely perfect shooting location!
Before the old market was renovated, young people preferred the pedestrian street at Zhongmao Square near Nanshaomen intersection. At night, that street is always bustling with people—eating, shopping, dancing, singing, or strolling with kids, you'll find it all, brimming with the vitality of everyday life.
But don't think people in Xi'an only love eating and drinking; their passion for sports is just as intense. The upcoming 14th National Games in Xi'an has further fueled the city's fitness craze. In the evening, you'll see people doing square dancing, playing basketball, or jogging everywhere. Shaanxi Province Stadium (originally the Northwest People's Stadium), built in 1954, has become a spiritual symbol of Shaanxi sports over decades of use. For the 14th National Games, it will take on an even larger role, once again contributing to the grand event!
