This Summer, Visit the 'Xi'an Romantic Show' for a Time-Travel Journey Back to the Glorious Tang Dynasty
As a fan of performance-based attractions, I've visited several Romantic Show parks. Ever since the Xi'an Romantic Show arrived in Xi'an a while ago, I finally found time to explore the Xi'an Romantic Show scenic area right on my doorstep.
It's a place that combines live entertainment, leisure, and interactive experiences. Walking through the Chang'an Gate feels like stepping back into the Tang Dynasty. Strolling along the ancient-style streets is like traveling through time. Everywhere in the park, wonderful performances happen spontaneously – you'll need to follow the daily schedule to catch every exciting show.
Give me one day, and I'll take you back a thousand years. If you only have one day in Xi'an, the 'Xi'an Romantic Show' is an absolute must-see. It's the park's core and most important performance, and most visitors come specifically for this show.
This is a unique artistic spectacle. In just one hour, it brings to life the stories of Xi'an's thousand-year history. Set on the banks of the Chanba River, beneath the Chang'an Tower, it revives the splendor of ages, instantly transporting the audience through the long river of time.
‘Xi'an Romantic Show’ – A Once-in-a-Lifetime Performance
The 'Xi'an Romantic Show' tells the story of a Chinese girl returning to her homeland to find her roots, embarking on a journey to rediscover national memories. Several pivotal chapters from Xi'an's millennia-old history unfold on stage, letting you absorb a thousand years in a single day.
The show is divided into six chapters:
Instantly, you're transported back to the Banpo period, when life was just emerging. Oxen and geese become actors on stage, a delightful surprise that wins instant applause.
Amidst the calling of ospreys and willows along the Ba River, the romantic love story by the riverside is utterly enchanting.
Stage effects create the visual sensation of a thousand-ton flood, making you truly believe you're on a mighty river – it's breathtaking.
Envoys from all nations pay tribute, a banquet of supreme bliss. I was awed by the glorious chapter of Tang Dynasty Chang'an, where 'all nations bowed their heads before the crown.'
Across vast deserts, with camel bells ringing, legends were written along the Silk Road. Hundreds of cubic meters of sand cascade down, drawing gasps of wonder.
When a sea of Five-Starred Red Flags passes overhead, you can't help but feel deeply moved as a Chinese. A surge of pride rises, and together we sing the resounding anthem of revival.
5D 'The Great Earthquake' – A Heart-Stirring Show
The 5D interactive show 'The Great Earthquake' is another indoor experience worth watching. It invites visitors to join as extras on the spot, recreating the scenes of the Wenchuan earthquake with incredible realism. It's profoundly moving and makes you cherish the hard-won happiness of today's life.
Whether it's the 'Xi'an Romantic Show' or 'The Great Earthquake', you have to be there in person to feel the full impact. With the stunning set design, lighting, and special effects, you're completely immersed in the stories, every scene etched vividly in your memory.
Other Activities
Beyond these, the outdoor areas of the park also feature a rotating lineup of wonderful shows. Here are a few outdoor performances I especially recommend:
At Cailou, the Huayin Laodiao performance features veteran artists. Their roaring singing style has a hint of rock 'n' roll and reveals the bold character of the locals. The charm of this intangible cultural heritage is on full display.
Inside the Chang'an Gate, the Lotus Charm dance features graceful girls swaying with the music, showcasing the beauty and elegance of Tang Dynasty maidens as they welcome visitors.
On Yanyun Street, catch the Chinese-style flash mob. Young women in Hanfu and men in ethnic costumes dance and sing amidst bubbles floating through the air. Visitors are welcome to join in the joyful dancing!
On Guoyan Street, the shadow puppet show tells stories with figures and patterns cut from ox hide – a folk art with over a thousand years of history. Under the light, puppeteers manipulate the characters while singing in local tunes. It's incredibly popular, and kids love it as if watching a cartoon.
At Performance Square, the electronic music water-splashing carnival and watermelon-eating contest are perfect for hot summer days. Cool off and dance to beats – this is the right way to enjoy summer!
If you're visiting with children, there are also plenty of activities designed for them. Camel encounters, balloon artists, pony meet-and-greets, and the dinosaur-themed family carnival are all fantastic parent-child experiences where kids can fully take part.
When the ancient capital of thirteen dynasties collides with the Xi'an Romantic Show, there's so much to see and do – it's definitely worth a summer visit!
