Where to Go in Xi'an: Xi'an Eternal Love Summer Carnival, a Fun-Filled Holiday
During a summer trip, I arrived in Xi'an, Shaanxi, and checked out the new internet-famous scenic spot, Xi'an Eternal Love. Xi'an Songcheng is a large-scale performance park, jointly created by Xi'an World Expo Group and Songcheng Performing Arts.
Inside the park, the Chronicle Avenue, Sky City, Lake View Pavilion, Chang'an Gate, Songcheng Tower, Songcheng Gate, Haunted House, Flaming Volcano, Chang'an Square, Performance Square, Songcheng Square and more create a scene at every step, dazzling and fantastical, as if traveling back to the glorious Tang Dynasty. Walking along Guoyan Street and Yanyun Street, or strolling along the tree-lined lakeside path, the Silver Beach, Splendid Lake, and Chang'an Tower enhance each other’s beauty—absolutely breathtaking. It’s a reminder to treasure the present; life itself is a journey.
Within the park, dozens of performances like 'Chinese Style Flash Mob,' 'Silk Road Joyful Song,' 'Fantastic Bubble Show,' and 'Huayin Old Tune' ensure there's something for everyone.
[Xi'an Eternal Love]
The grand song-and-dance show 'Xi'an Eternal Love' is the most anticipated performance in the entire scenic area. With three shows a day, all packed, it comes highly recommended. The whole performance is divided into six acts, slowly unfurling a historical picture scroll related to Xi'an.
Prologue: The Light of Civilization
Xi'an, this ancient and mysterious land, bears the vicissitudes of history. In their struggle against nature, our ancestors learned pottery-making, fishing, hunting, building houses, and farming, creating a brilliant prehistoric civilization. It served as a major component of the later Xia, Shang, and Zhou civilizations, and was the first ray of dawn of the ancient Eastern civilization.
Act One: Islets of the Ba River
‘Guan-guan go the ospreys, on the islet in the river. The beautiful, virtuous lady, for our lord a good mate she.’ The ospreys' cries carry us across a thousand years to the beautiful banks of the Ba River. On this romantic land where China's first poetry anthology, the 'Classic of Poetry,' was born, a group of carefree maidens sing and dance gracefully among the gently swaying willows.
Act Two: Yu the Great Tames the Flood
Throughout human history, there have been many mythological tales of great floods. Only one people, one man, chose to confront the flood head-on—that is the Chinese nation, and the ancestor of the Chinese people, Yu the Great.
Act Three: The Prosperous Tang Dynasty
The Tang Dynasty was an extraordinarily glorious era in ancient China. Its economy, society, culture, and arts all displayed the splendor and confidence of the flourishing Tang. At that time, Chang'an, with an endless stream of merchants and travelers, was an international metropolis that countless people yearned for. Let us step into Chang'an and experience the peerless elegance of the great Tang Dynasty.
Act Four: The Silk Road
In human history, there has never been a trade route so arduous, stretching for thousands of miles and enduring for millennia—this is the Silk Road. For over a thousand years, this ancient trade route has seen ups and downs, with countless legendary stories of love and sacrifice. Listen, the sound of camel bells echoing through history.
Epilogue: The Great Rejuvenation
As the starting point of the ancient Silk Road, Xi'an has welcomed new opportunities from the Belt and Road Initiative. The people of Xi'an are stepping into a new era of great rejuvenation for the Chinese nation with a grand and open attitude.
The live-action earthquake experience show 'The Great Earthquake' by Xi'an Eternal Love is another masterpiece by Songcheng following the Eternal Love series. During the performance, the seats vibrate to simulate an earthquake. Audience members are also recruited on the spot to act in the show.
This half-hour-long heartfelt performance realistically recreates the tragic scenes of the Wenchuan earthquake: mountains collapsing, houses crumbling, and a massive flood of 3,000 cubic meters instantly pouring down... One true story after another, one touching scene after another, demonstrate the boundless love of the Chinese nation uniting as one to fight the disaster.
[Electronic Water-Splashing Carnival]
As night falls, another great show at Xi'an Eternal Love begins—the Electronic Water-Splashing Carnival kicks off. Gorgeous men and women in futuristic, explosive outfits sing and dance joyfully, and the pulsating electronic music instantly excites the crowd.
When the water-splashing starts, water splashes unexpectedly everywhere. In this passionate summer revelry, everyone joins in, splashing each other to share coolness and joy.
Finally, there is a thrilling watermelon-eating contest. Tourists are selected to come on stage, each given three pieces of watermelon. Whoever finishes in the shortest time becomes the watermelon king. The champion, of course, wins a prize—a whole watermelon. It makes perfect sense: a watermelon contest rewarding a big watermelon! The audience, infected by the joyful atmosphere, cheers and applauds for the champion.
Xi'an Eternal Love is truly so much fun! With non-stop programs all day—shows, song and dance, flash mobs, traditional opera, parent-child interactions, and more—it is definitely the best destination for a weekend or holiday trip.
