White Chapel | Bali
2016 | September
The flight tickets were booked rather last minute, round trip from Beijing to Bali, over 5000 RMB. So planning early really saves money—probably could have managed around 3500. My friend and I passed by a hotel where a wedding was taking place. The three of us lingered around the chapel for a long, long time. A small white chapel, with two doors quietly open. Through the view, the coastline stretched out. Standing there just made my heart flutter with girlish dreams. Time is the same for everyone, yet so different.
Right after arriving at the hotel and settling into the room, we headed straight to the beach. From the bright afternoon to sunset, the clouds took different shapes, dyed in various colors by the setting sun. Snapping photos of various passersby—every scene was beautiful. It reminded me of a movie: "Before Sunset." Bali really isn't a place to watch the sea alone.
It was probably around this time that I fell in love with surfing; a little sprout took root in my heart—someday I will learn, and go surfing often. The sprout doesn't need to grow into a tree... I don't even have a photo of myself holding a board in a fake pose, not even a nice back view photo. Standing at the junction of sea and sky at sunset feels like standing at the end of time. Bikinis, big slippers, speeding scooters—these are its keywords. It seems naturally suited to sensuality and love.
Beside our small inn was a path, along which stretched a rice field... Walking along the path, there were a few small taverns, from which intoxicating music and cheerful chatter drifted from afar. As the sky grew darker and the lights came on, swaying gently to the music was especially pleasant. There weren't many pedestrians on the path, but quite a few rode scooters through the winding lanes. Strings of laughter passed by—the backs of tank tops and sandals... Don't bother coming alone; it's really not suitable here... This path was quite long, and in the end, we never reached the end. The air was filled with the sweet scent of love... really...
But that's not all. One day, YU and I booked a night safari activity. Oh ho ho... we were really not lightly tortured. At first, the atmosphere was quite normal—tourists hadn't all arrived yet, scattered around looking at small animals. Nothing special here, just a lecherous orangutan constantly flirting with the female zookeeper... Apart from that, any other performance only made them feel foolish and angry—they wouldn't respond, haha.
Tourists gradually arrived, and we were arranged to sit at our reserved table first. Had a little drink, then walked around the zoo. Finally, we had a candlelit dinner while watching a performance—yes, only candlelight. About ten tables of tourists came, and the rest were all couples—young lovers, elderly couples, middle-aged couples—every pair was so sweet. See? Summer really requires a bit more effort.
I absolutely love this photo! The smile is so bright—and the splashes of water are just right. Everything was perfectly timed to make the photographer's heart skip a beat. Well, the inner drama was even more than the scenery.
Turns out, without bananas it's safe all the way... but by the time I realized, it was too late. The big brother monkey, upon seeing bananas, scrambled right up—and kicked my phone away while snatching the banana. Actually, he didn't snatch it—he just sat there and started eating... very calmly... The kicked phone's screen cracked with a snap... He finished the banana, tossed the peel, and left.
It happened to be a local festival at the time, with large prayer activities. Passing through here leads to that small white chapel. On the way, I captured a photo I really like.
