Silence, Introspection, Connection: Embracing Serenity on Bali's New Year 'Day of Silence'
Indonesia, Bali – March 29, 2025, is Bali's Nyepi (Day of Silence), also the beginning of the Balinese Saka New Year, a unique festival of Bali. This day, also known as the 'Day of Silence,' is commemorated through peaceful introspection, prayer, and meditation.
To celebrate this special occasion, Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay and Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan will host a series of unique cultural activities, inviting guests to embark on an exciting journey into traditional local customs. To allow guests to fully enjoy the healing tranquility and beauty, the resorts are also offering a 'Long Stay' promotion: pay for three consecutive nights and enjoy the fourth night free.
Bali's New Year embodies the unique spirit of the island. Unlike lively festivities and gatherings, the Balinese New Year emphasizes rest, reflection, and rejuvenation. On this day, the entire island falls into stillness to revitalize: the airport closes; there is a 24-hour ban on fire and lights; people stay at home with their families. It is a festival that highlights family togetherness and celebrates goodness, connection, and love.
Cultural activities are an integral part of Nyepi. The Four Seasons resorts in Bali will offer guests a range of complimentary experiences. At Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay, guests can watch the traditional Ogoh-Ogoh parade and burning ceremony, where giant paper effigies are set ablaze to pray for a peaceful and prosperous year ahead. At Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan, guests can experience 'Klangsah' art, using mats woven from coconut leaves to make hats, bowls, handbags, baskets, decorations, and also create intricate fruit offerings called 'Gebogan.'

Additionally, complimentary activities at Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan include a 'Truth' throat chakra yoga session on the eve of Nyepi (the day of exorcism or the day before the Day of Silence), focusing on the energy of the throat chakra in expressing one's authentic voice and uniqueness, to better welcome the Day of Silence. On the morning of Nyepi, guests can experience 'Perception' third eye chakra yoga to balance the energy of the third eye; and as night falls, a stargazing meditation allows guests to immerse themselves in tranquility and enjoy pure moments.
Stargazing Meditation
Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay also offers a series of complimentary experiences. Guests can join Chakra Darshan yoga to activate the sacred Kundalini energy, allowing it to flow up the spine and energize the 'Day of Silence'; visit the Sila Giri Kesarah temple to hear stories of Nyepi, receive blessings, and gain deeper insight into this sacred festival; or enjoy complimentary interactive classes such as learning Aksara calligraphy, making Balinese Canang offerings, sweet rice cakes, and herbal remedies.
Nyepi is also an excellent time for families to visit Bali, where loved ones can create lasting memories through shared cultural activities and enjoy quality time together without distractions. The children's clubs at both resorts will also offer numerous Nyepi-inspired activities for kids.
Mathilde Adam, Senior Commercial Director of Four Seasons Resorts Bali, said: 'Nyepi allows us to welcome the new year with a fresh outlook and abundant energy. Taking a pause from the busy pace of life is not easy, and we hope to share this unique Balinese tradition with guests from around the world, allowing them to experience the beauty of silence. Our cultural ambassadors are very proud of their unique traditions and hope that both locals and visitors can enjoy a wonderful time together in peace and tranquility.'
