2021 Latest Chengdu Travel Guide
Recently I saw a video posted by a girl traveling to Chengdu, which made my heart itch. So I discussed with my friends and we decided on a spontaneous trip. As someone who likes to be well-prepared, I did some research before leaving. But unexpectedly, the hotel we stayed at also prepared a Chengdu travel guide, and I have to say, theirs was more detailed. I'll introduce it below.
If you're interested, keep reading.
Our itinerary was as follows:
DAY 1: Tianfu Square (Chengdu Museum) - Dongmen Shijing (Lingke Tea House) - Dongjiao Memory - Yulin Road
DAY 2: Kuanzhai Alley - People's Park - Jinsha Site Museum - Taikoo Li
DAY 3: Jinli Ancient Street & Wuhou Shrine - University of Electronic Science and Technology of China - Nine-Eye Bridge
DAY 4: Cave Bookstore (Geometry Bookstore) - End of trip
Since I love sleeping in, the schedule was quite loose. Food recommendations will be穿插 in the attractions section~
For accommodation, we booked the Ximu Shanju Hotel near Tianfu Square. It was quite close to the attractions and super beautiful! We slept very comfortably, and I'm not picky about beds.
——————————————Start of the trip————————————
Come travel with me!
DAY 1: Chengdu Museum
It happened to rain lightly during our days here. Every time it rains, I think of Du Fu's "Happy Rain on a Spring Night": "Stealing in with the wind, it moistens everything silently. Wild paths are dark with clouds, but a boat on the river shines with a lone light. At dawn, I see the red and wet places; the city of brocade flowers is heavy."
Our first stop was the Sichuan Museum.
When you come to Chengdu, you really need to experience its rich history. Although I used to think museums were boring and the people who went there were old-fashioned, now the cultural and creative industries are getting better, and I gradually appreciate the beauty of history. Whenever I go to a place with history, I want to deeply understand its story. Moreover, visiting exhibitions not only kills time but also relaxes your mind.
Address: No. 1 Xiaohe Street, west side of Tianfu Square, Qingyang District, Chengdu
Opening hours: 9:00–20:00 (closed on Mondays)
Route: 10-minute walk from the hotel
If you haven't made a reservation, remember to bring your [ID card]. Although it's free, you need to show your ID. If it's already on your itinerary, you can make a reservation at least one day in advance through the [Chengdu Museum] WeChat official account, and you can enter directly with the reservation information.
The small models are really exquisite, such great craftsmanship.
The museum is divided into areas:
1F: Chengdu History (there are brochures and audio guides at the entrance)
2F: Pre-Qin to Northern and Southern Dynasties
3F: Sui and Tang to Ming and Qing Dynasties
4F: Modern and Folk Customs
5F: Shadow Puppetry and Puppet Exhibition
The museum has a rich collection of artifacts, including bronzeware, gold and silver wares, portrait bricks, stone carvings, ceramics, calligraphy and paintings, and wood carvings. Many famous treasures like the Tianfu Stone Rhinoceros, medical bamboo slips from the Laoguanshan Han tomb, the lacquered human figure with acupoints, and the Shu brocade jacquard loom model are incredibly cool.
It has permanent exhibitions like "The City of Brocade Flowers: Chengdu History and Culture" and "Shadow Dance, Puppet Wonder: Chinese Shadow Puppetry and Puppet Exhibition." They are very interesting; even the kids around were fully focused on the shadow puppets, and so was I! I saw shadow puppets outside of textbooks for the first time.
Each floor has shops selling cultural and creative products. Some items are also sold outside, some are museum-exclusive, and the prices are reasonable. I bought some refrigerator magnets, badges, and stickers to bring back as gifts for friends.
After the museum, we rode shared bikes to find lunch nearby. I was so hungry! A short ride and we arrived. The restaurant:
Zhang Roast Duck Qingshiqiao Branch
This is a popular shop. Judging by the long queue at the door, it was very crowded. But from other diners, I heard it's an old brand, open for over 30 years. Hearing that, I had to see how good it was.
Their specialty is roast duck, but different from Beijing roast duck—it's spicy. Soaked in spicy oil, the duck's aroma blends with the chili, creating an endless, memorable taste.
The hall is spacious with many large round tables, suitable for family and friends. The spacing between tables is generous, and the wooden tables and floor give a rustic feel. The lighting is also good.
"Sichuan-style roast duck": The duck is plated and hot braised sauce is poured over it. Amazing! It's a different feeling from sliced duck. Bubbling and appetizing, generous portions, and goes perfectly with rice. The meat is not dry, just right; when you bite, you get the slightly crispy skin, and the skin with meat, mixed with sauce-dipped rice, is delightful.
"Boiled Fish": Really delicious. The fish is very tender, with few bones. Big dishes show the quality of a restaurant. This one is excellent.
"Bean Soup with Baby Cabbage": The soybeans are a bit soft, as you can see in the picture. The soup is thick and rich in flavor, and the portion is large. If you like rice soaked in soup, give it a try.
"Stir-fried Yellow Beef": The beef is cooked dry and fragrant, shredded finely, with a strong cilantro flavor. Slightly spicy, goes well with rice.
Lucky for us, we randomly ordered and everything was delicious. It was worth waiting over an hour, even though I was hungry.
After eating, we took a taxi to Dongmen Shijing. It was close, just about ten minutes by taxi.
Dongmen Shijing Teahouse
Dongmen Shijing is a newly discovered小众 check-in spot, near Lion Mountain Station on Chengdu Metro Line 7. You can also take the subway, or bus No. 47 from Yanshikou, get off at the north gate of Sichuan Normal University, walk back a few steps, and follow Jieren Road to reach Dongmen Shijing.
"Kuanzhai Alley in the west, Jinli in the south"—as an outsider, I know these two places. But what about the east? There's Dongmen Shijing.
Tangyuan (sugar-oil fruit) with white sesame seeds on top: the oil fragrance mixes with sesame, making your mouth water. Simply put, it's delicious.
Chengdu locals' memory of the east is a blend of market life and heroic spirit. Dongmen Shijing has gray walls, black tiles, wooden beams... scenes depicted by Li Jieren. "Grandma Wang sells tea; three Guanyin come to drink tea. Back garden, three horses; two children fight; Grandma Wang scolds, and the neighbor's girl gossips."
Under the pavilion, bamboo tables and chairs, bamboo-woven thermos, and a cup of covered tea—life is slow, comfortable and leisurely. After a cup of tea, what restless heart can't calm down?
After visiting this, next is
Dongjiao Memory
Compared to Chengdu's popular photo spots, this is more off-the-beaten-path, suitable for the artistic you.
Dongjiao Memory is a transformed industrial area that retains the original red brick workshops, train heads, and tracks. It has a strong visual impact, a clear industrial style. These elements are full of stories, exuding an old atmosphere that fascinates me.
Address: Dongjiao Memory, No. 4 South Jianshe Branch Road, Chenghua District, Chengdu. Take buses 180, 342, 1013 to Dongjiao Memory North Gate Station, then walk about 200 meters.
Open for free all day.
Industrial-style废弃 machine tools, semi-finished glass bulbs,废弃 tanks, and pipeline-transformed art pieces are everywhere. Very interesting.
Cadre warning signs: These production slogans are really nostalgic. "Self-reliance, hard work, create our own better life," hahaha.
There are also old green trains for photo shoots, very retro.
The park has music performances and art exhibitions, as well as cafes, bookstores, and bars everywhere. I suggest picking one to sit in, have a cup of coffee, and quietly pass the time.
Yulin Road Small Bar (Jiu Guan)
We took photos here for a long time and got a bit hungry, but my friend said we should check in at the Yulin Bar from Zhao Lei's song before eating.
"Walk to the end of Yulin Road, sit at the entrance of the small bar. Partings always happen in September; memories are the sorrow of longing." Zhao Lei's "Chengdu" made this small bar famous. There was a long queue at the entrance; everyone came to check in with the same "nostalgia"!
I heard that before Zhao Lei became famous, he performed and lived in this small bar, so it's very meaningful to him.
Almost everyone here is a tourist, and the door sign has become a check-in spot. They don't accept reservations, only on-site queuing. We checked in and left, heading to a long-coveted food spot for dinner.
Wang Xiaohao Yulin Road Branch
Located in a Yulin alley, easy to find, surrounded by lively shops. The exact location is near No. 12 Yulin South Street, convenient transportation, and the sign is very eye-catching.
At the entrance, you see a wall full of oysters—clearly their specialty. The storefront is large, with both indoor and outdoor seating. The decoration is very industrial style, but not like a street stall; it's more elegant, suitable for couples. The service is quick; they clear plates, refill water, and recommend dishes promptly.
When ordering, I saw other tables piling up oyster shells into small mountains—666. Seeing them eat so appetizing made me order a lot too. The owner said the seafood is freshly caught in Zhanjiang and air-shipped to Chengdu. There were workers opening seafood at the door. The seafood was very fresh.
I used to love oysters. They have "Oyster Sashimi": open the oyster, pour out the juice, squeeze some lemon, and slurp the meat into your mouth. The fresh taste is great, but it depends on personal preference. If you're not used to raw food, try "Garlic Grilled Oysters." The oysters are very fresh, quite large, and have no fishy smell. The minced garlic is very fine, with no large chunks; the oil is fragrant and the seasoning pairs well with the oysters. It doesn't overpower the original flavor.
[Seafood Porridge] is perfect for winter. We ordered it as a staple; it's warm and comforting. There are many ingredients: seafood, pork liver, vegetables, eggs, prawns—all very fresh. They set up a clay pot nearby and cook it directly, giving a warm sense of ritual. Watching the rice porridge bubble and the bubbles expand and burst, the aroma gets stronger.
In winter, having the classic three—roasted oysters, seafood porridge, and barbecue—is truly satisfying. So we added some barbecue. The auntie's barbecue was irresistible; the meat skewers sizzled, with full meat texture. Grilled over charcoal, already fragrant, the seasoning elevated the flavor.
You can try the grilled potato slices. The vegetables retain their natural sweetness. The potatoes are sliced thinly, grilled until flavorful, with a strong barbecue taste.
Burp~ Full and happy, the first day ended. Today was really intense—we visited so many places! I'm tired, time to sleep.
Today I slept until I naturally woke up, around 8 or 9. After washing up and putting on makeup, we headed out.
It's less than a 20-minute walk from the hotel to Kuanzhai Alley.
Kuanzhai Alley consists of three alleys: "Kuan Alley," "Zhai Alley," and "Jing Alley." The wider one is Kuan Alley, the narrower is Zhai Alley, and the one with a well is Jing Alley. Their names reflect their features. It's essentially a名片 of Chengdu. You can walk from Kuan Alley to Zhai Alley holding a sugar painting, pass through Jing Alley into an artistic shop, or sit in a courtyard with a book and listen to the elderly chat.
This is super interesting and unique. I stared at it for a long time. It looked like the door knocker on ancient mansion gates.
The elderly sit under the trees resting. There are many characteristic roadside teahouses and cafes here. Jing Alley gathers many local snacks, as well as Sichuan cuisine and hotpot.
"A house with a garden, a garden with a house, a house with a courtyard, a courtyard with trees, trees reaching the sky, and the sky with the moon"—such a courtyard is my dream life.
Sweet Heart Idler Kuixinglou Branch
Eating dessert early in the morning feels great! Dessert starts the day beautifully. I searched on Dianping and found this highly-rated and beautiful shop—Sweet Heart Idler Kuixinglou Branch. Let's try it.
It's located in Kuixinglou near Kuanzhai Alley. You can get there from Tongren Street. The shop is clean with a Japanese-style feel; the wooden door is comfortable. There's a cute pufferfish in the fish tank.
Order and pay on the left side before sitting down; no queue. The girl at the counter smiled, which I really liked.
I've had cold ice jelly (bingfen) many times, but this is my first time having hot ice jelly (it's their specialty). It tastes pretty good, better than hot milk tea. The heated ice jelly is crystal clear, completely different from cold ice jelly. Delicious, but the brown sugar is quite sweet—a dessert lover's delight.
"Popular Snow Mountain Ice Tangyuan": As a purple sweet potato lover, I like this one: purple crystal balls, high appearance, soft and sticky, with a strong brown sugar flavor.
"White Snow Black Glutinous Rice Tofu Pudding": Fine shaved ice with cool, smooth ice jelly, chewy black glutinous rice, strong milk flavor, not too sweet, generous portion with plenty of small dumplings. It feels like a dessert combo.
"Honeycomb Ice Jelly": Contains a whole piece of honeycomb, detoxifying and beautifying, with some rose petals—a light, pleasant rose scent. Many white, plump small dumplings, very sweet. Life is so bitter, eat something sweet!
"Traditional Brown Sugar Ice Jelly": Obvious handmade feel, visible bubbles, pure brown sugar flavor, melts in the mouth, chewy texture. "Traditional Fried Sand Brown Sugar Ice Jelly": The fried sand brown sugar syrup looks comforting—reminds me of hot chocolate sauce—thick but not greasy. The brown sugar is packaged separately so you can adjust the sweetness.
Kuixinglou has countless food options, and ice jelly is also diverse. But this shop is incredibly popular. There must be a reason so many people like it! The ice jelly is refreshing! Worth multiple visits! Chengdu people really know how to eat!! I'm crying over ice jelly.
We still had energy after the dessert, so we continued to People's Park.
Not visiting People's Park when you come to Chengdu is a big regret. Here you can see the diverse lives of Chengdu locals.
You can finish visiting in about an hour, then sit down for tea and rest.
The park has a lake for boating. If the sun is warm, the lake water laps the shore, and the wind is fresh and cool, you can sit and watch old men play chess. There's also a sugar candy spinning wheel—a few yuan to spin, and they'll draw whatever pattern you get.
Tips:
1. Ear cleaning: 30 per person, very comfortable and professional.
2. Tea: about 30 per person, unlimited refills. Chengdu people have a slow pace; even early in the morning, people come to drink tea, chat, and play mahjong.
After visiting, it was noon, and we chose this restaurant for lunch:
Yuan Laosi East Street Branch
An old brand restaurant located on Chunxi Road. There are two branches on Chunxi Road, very close to each other. During these days, I noticed that popular restaurants in Chengdu require advance ticket numbers and queuing; otherwise, it's ridiculous. We arrived late and queued for over two hours.
The environment is imposing. At the entrance, there is a memorial arch-like structure with their plaque. I really thought I was at a tourist attraction. Blue bricks, round wood, simple and elegant, with a classical charm. The restaurant is mainly red, which looks appetizing. The decoration is unique, the space is large, seats are spacious, and there are many plants and flowers.
The carved paintings on the pillars, the simple and upright tables and chairs with yellow lanterns, made me imagine I was a guest invited by a wealthy family for a feast.
The spiciness is very authentic. Maybe we are weak, but the spiciness left a deep impression. If you can't handle spicy food, tell the staff. The broth has a real beef flavor.
"Secret Recipe Spare Ribs": My new favorite. Cooked longer, they become very tasty. We put them in early, and by the end, they were super delicious. I ordered many classic dishes but tried the ribs for the first time. I wonder if they were pre-marinated. The flavor was just right—not too bland. After cooking in the spicy pot, they were very flavorful. When you bite, you tear off a big piece of meat. Each piece is large with plenty of meat.
"Fatty Beef": Dip in delicious sauce and cook in the hotpot for 8–10 seconds. The beef comes with milk and egg in the middle; dip it there before cooking for extra tenderness. I love the texture of fatty beef.
Family portrait: We ordered a bunch of things; seeing everything full on the table was extremely satisfying.
Must-order [A Meter of Duck Intestines]: Very crunchy, worthy of the招牌. Super long—it felt like picking up long-life noodles. My friend stood up, and the intestines still weren't straight. Twice the price at other places but not even half the amount. Cleanly processed, no impurities, great texture.
[Mom's Meatballs]: So beautiful! I was amazed by its appearance—curved plating. I thought a specialty dish might not taste that good, but the flavor was surprisingly excellent. I don't usually like cilantro and green onions, but the combination of seasonings here made it perfect.
[Grandma's Crispy Pork]: Large pieces, definitely worthy of a specialty. Even cold, it doesn't feel greasy. The aroma lingers in the mouth. The small pieces of fatty meat inside are really fragrant. Overall, I really like the texture.
This place has amazing value for money. An endlessly enjoyable series. The service was good; the ladies responded quickly. If you can't handle very spicy food, I recommend ordering a red-and-white鸳鸯 pot.
Jinsha Site Museum
After lunch, we took a taxi to the Jinsha Site Museum. It took about 20 minutes.
Address: No. 2 Jinsha Site Road, Qingyang District, Chengdu
By bus: Take buses 5, 79, 82, 83, 84, 100 to Qingyang Avenue North Station or Jinsha Site East Gate Station, then walk about 200 meters.
First we saw the Relics Hall, which displays one of the most important archaeological excavation sites of Jinsha—the sacrificial area.
Here, tons of ivory and many wild boar tusks, deer antlers, etc., were unearthed. Extremely cool.
The Exhibition Hall consists of five galleries: "Ancient Home," "Silhouette of the Capital," "Eternal Heaven and Earth," "Millennium Treasures," and "Interpreting Jinsha." The clean, atmospheric, and varied exhibition spaces are stunning. Inside, there is an old tree root with glass above; looking down from above is particularly impressive.
The entire exhibition hall is so exquisite; each gallery is full of the collision of history and modernity, deeply bringing me back to the Jinsha period. Outside, there is Chengdu's characteristic bamboo forest garden culture: green spaces, tree shades, winding forest paths. Metasequoia is the main tree species here—a very ancient tree. This area is much more relaxed than inside, giving a sense of nature and ease. There are also little deer, so cute!! They are not afraid of people; you can touch them!
After playing with the deer, we rested in the nearby park and took photos.
The photos here are very stylish.
Regular ticket: 70 RMB (closed on Mondays)
Minors and students get half-price; you can bring a student ID. Free audio guide with QR code at the entrance (worth listening to if time permits). The location is in the city center, so it doesn't affect eating and shopping. For a deep visit, I recommend half a day. Booking tickets online is a bit cheaper; just scan the code to enter, very convenient.
After visiting, it was dinner time. We went to a nearby restaurant, about a ten-minute walk, super close. The taste was amazing—so impressive I still can't forget it.
Frog Fish Cold Pot (Qingxi South Street Branch)
Recommended by a Chengdu friend as authentic cuisine. Judging by the name, I immediately thought it was frog + fish + chicken, but it's only frog and fish, no chicken.
We arrived after the peak meal time, but there were still many tables, lively and noisy. However, we didn't wait long—about half an hour. Chengdu nightlife is really comfortable; it always feels like summer all-night happy drinking.
Although this place is in a small alley in Funan New District, it's packed every day. It has a very down-to-earth food stall vibe, with busy surrounding streets, loud discussions from people enjoying food, hot dishes, and simple tableware. Watching people drink beer with spicy pot and get runny noses from the heat felt very relaxed. Street food stalls have a strong sense of life.
Lao Yang and I clinked beer bottles, so I, the big sister, clinked a bottle of soda (somehow that makes me feel weaker than him).
I heard this place has long queues every evening. Even if you live on the same street, you need to come early to get a ticket. The value for money is super high: the pot base is only 15 RMB, and all vegetables are free, fully meeting Chengdu people's standard of delicious and affordable restaurants.
To ensure quality, the frogs and puffer fish (hao'er yu) are freshly killed and cooked before serving.
[Puffer Fish]: Very good! Each piece is large, as big as a palm. Puffer fish basically has only one main bone; with chopsticks, you can easily pick up a big piece of meat. It's a must for people who aren't good at eating fish, avoiding fumbling. It helps maintain elegance even when dining with a crush. I've eaten a lot of puffer fish, but rarely with such generous portions. The meat is very fresh, tender, and plentiful. The fresh fish head paired with red soup spicy oil effectively suppresses the fishy smell. Puffer fish is also a high-protein aquatic product with natural collagen and fish protein, very healthy.
The [fish head] was cooked just right: no fishy smell, fatty but not greasy. Suck on the fish head, it's delicious and juicy. After the fish head, we had fish fillets and side dishes. I thought there wasn't much, but we had ordered a lot and were almost stuffed.
The [frog] was very large. Each frog had smooth, tender meat. With a gentle bite, the meat peeled off easily. The texture was so fresh that you could slightly separate the meat fibers with your tongue. Dipped in the restaurant's special sauce, the mildly spicy flavor was irresistible—again, I can't handle spicy but still love it.
After eating, we took the subway line 2 back to the hotel—only half an hour. We passed by Taikoo Li and took a stroll. Its night view is incredibly beautiful.
DAY 3: Jinli Ancient Street and Wuhou Shrine
When you mention Chengdu, Jinli comes to mind.
It's located next to Wuhou Shrine, a food and folk culture street you must visit after Wuhou. There are many特色 folk crafts.
At night, red lanterns light up in Jinli, and folk songs start playing in small bars, as if you're in an ancient city. Visiting Jinli at night has a unique charm. You can vaguely dream of ancient times.
The wall by the lanterns is perfect for photos, whether in ordinary clothes or Hanfu—you can easily get a vintage look.
By bus: Routes 1, 57, 82, 334, 335, 1126, Wenbo sightseeing line, Night 11.
Summer: 7:30–21:00; Winter: 8:00–18:30.
Adult ticket 60 RMB, student 30 RMB (worth it).
The best photo spot here is the dense bamboo forest, with winding paths leading to seclusion, and large areas of high-saturation red walls.
Chengdu's nightlife is very rich; many hotpot restaurants are open late. Chengdu people naturally love excitement. When night falls, Chengdu's prosperity is no less than during the day. After a busy day, people relax their nerves, step into the nightlife with cheerful steps, and slowly enjoy this moment of relaxation. Nine-Eye Bridge is also a famous bar street in Chengdu, the most beautiful part of the city's night view. The bridge arches over the water, and the yellow lights make it look very precious.
The bar street has become the name card of Nine-Eye Bridge. Every night, lights shine, and songs and dances continue. The bright neon of entertainment venues and the winding Jinjiang River night scene all highlight Chengdu's enchanting night. The riverside street is brilliantly lit at night.
Hehe, we're going in!
Very lively, fun, and exciting.
After playing, we were really hungry. We found a place nearby for a late-night snack.
Xun Xiaohuan Braised Roasted Lamb Skewers Nine-Eye Bridge Branch
Near Nine-Eye Bridge, a hidden corner of Chengdu. Located on Zhimin East Road. We hadn't reserved a seat, so we found no indoor seats and had to sit outside.
The staff and aunties were very welcoming, giving a real Chengdu feel. My friend said: in Chengdu, if you see a restaurant with many people, just go in! We sat on small stools at the entrance, watching the large braising oven going in and out with skewers. In Chengdu, our favorite staple meals are hotpot, skewers, or barbecue.
Braised oven lamb skewers: evenly heated, less loss of fat and moisture, so they're very fragrant! Unlike ordinary grills that can have a charcoal burnt taste, this place does a great job of locking in freshness and moisture. Pure lean meat would be dry, but here they combine one piece of fat with one piece of lean. The fat renders out during grilling and penetrates the lean meat, making it juicy and very flavorful.
#Beef Skewers#: Beef paired with pineapple very successfully. Pineapple cuts the grease, and the beef takes on a fruity aroma. Minimal seasoning—just salt and cumin with a touch of spice. The owner gave us a dry dip; it tasted great.
Lamb chops on the bone: Bone-in meat is always the best! Tender and juicy, even the bone becomes fragrant. They serve thin pancakes to go with the lamb, giving a Northwest feel. The meat is really big!
This is lamb spine, with plenty of meat, but lamb chops are more tender.
#Lamb Kidneys#: I'd never had lamb kidneys before. Tonight I tried them—the taste was acceptable, similar to foie gras. Liver is really good.
Among vegetables, I recommend eggplant and potatoes. I really like vegetables in barbecue, and they're less likely to cause上火. Vegetables are rich in vitamins.
It seems I've adapted to Chengdu's pace. Today's attractions were more relaxed.
This is our last day in Chengdu. I'm beginning to feel reluctant, but there's still the Cave Bookstore on the list. Let's go feel the relaxed atmosphere.
Geometry Bookstore, Books Have Geometry.
Chengdu now has many "internet-famous" bookstores: Fangsuo, Zhongshuge, Wenxuan. This one is completely different. A three-story space with a spiral staircase; it's not just a bookstore—it also has drinks, gifts, etc. What attracts me most is the internet-famous spiral staircase with a cave style, full of sophistication.
Convenient location, easy to find. Opposite Langyu on Taikoo Li.
Business hours: 10:00–22:00.
The interior design is very unique, as the name suggests "Geometry Bookstore." The arches remind me of Spanish architecture. Besides the most design-oriented spiral staircase, many places are good for simple photos. The small category sections of books have arched cement doors, very beautiful.
The window seats in the bookstore become even more beautiful at night when the surrounding lights turn on.
Finally, let's talk about the hotel we stayed at.
Chengdu Ximu Shanju Hotel
Address: No. 130 Shaanxi Street, Qingyang District, Chengdu
I stumbled upon this hotel online before. It looked good, so I saved it. It came in handy for this trip. It's a courtyard-style hotel with an ancient building called Shaanxi Guild Hall at the back. There are two century-old ginkgo trees in the courtyard. Although we didn't see the yellow ginkgo leaves falling, it still looked nice—see the photo evidence.
The hotel is in the city center, close to various attractions. An 8-minute walk to Metro Line 2 and 1, convenient transportation.
On the day we checked in, as soon as we arrived at the entrance, a lady came to open the door and carry our luggage. The lobby feels antique, with covered bowls of Tibetan tea, great for photos. Also!! There are two birds in the lobby. The front desk lady said they are called Yellow Peach (huangtao), chirping noisily.
The front desk was very thoughtful, preparing a Chengdu travel guide in both paper and electronic versions, with addresses, routes, and average costs. By the way, the hotel has a self-service laundry room, but we didn't use it, so no photos.
Our room was upgraded by the front desk—an inner room, very quiet with good lighting. The room has tea sets and calligraphy practice sheets. Importantly, the room faces the two century-old ginkgo trees! Even though they are green now!
During our stay, the room was cleaned thoroughly, and toiletries were changed daily.
When checking out, the front desk lady gave us a souvenir: a pair of特色 panda bowls and chopsticks.
I hope to stay at this hotel again next time I come to Chengdu.
————————————————End of Happy Trip————————————
