—— The Connection between Chian Village and the 129th Division

Ah, Chian Village is such a picturesque place... At the eastern foot of the Taihang Mountains, in She County, Handan, where the borders of Shanxi, Hebei, and Henan provinces meet, there are gorges and streams, as well as a land of sincere devotion. Here, a magnificent chapter was written: nine thousand soldiers entered She County, and three hundred thousand troops marched out of Taihang.

On the south bank of the Qingzhang River, northwest of the county town, lies a quiet little village. Because there is a red soil ridge on the high ground west of the village, it is named Chian (Red Bank). This small red village is Chian Lianxin Lane!

That's right—this is the Chian Village where the 129th Division headquarters was located! In 1937, the 129th Division crossed the Yellow River eastward and advanced into the Taihang Mountains. In November of the same year, the 129th Division sent an advance team to She County to cooperate with the then Kuomintang county government and friendly forces stationed in She to resist the Japanese.

In 1940, all of She County was liberated, and the 129th Division entered Chian. That autumn, the 129th Division helped establish the Chian Village Party branch, laying the political foundation for the division's stationing in Chian.

In December 1940, Liu and Deng led the 129th Division headquarters from Changle in She County to Chian, where they worked and lived for six years. Soldiers and civilians ate and lived together, and many stories emerged here that exemplify the deep, fish-and-water bond between the 129th Division and our villagers!
