Xizhou Ancient Town is a great place to visit again and again. It is the premier town of Bai ethnic culture in China, the hometown of the movie "Five Golden Flowers," and the "Cambridge of the East" in the words of author Lao She. According to reports, during the 2021 National Day holiday, 100,000 visitors from all over came to see the beautiful Xizhou. In the golden autumn of October, the fragrance of rice fills the ancient town of Xizhou. Have you found your own dream?
The 7-day National Day holiday in 2021 had just ended. On October 8, at the repeated invitation of a friend nicknamed "Old Niu," several friends gathered to visit Xizhou Ancient Town for an autumn outing. This was my second time this year to do rice field photography in Xizhou. In the season when a single leaf announces autumn, the wind blows through waves of rice. The beautiful scenery of Xizhou waits in autumn for the wind and for you; the most beautiful landscape is in your eyes. Come quickly to Dali Xizhou Ancient Town! The internet-famous rice fields are completely golden; it's the perfect time for travel photography!
Autumn is a season of joy and a season of harvest.
There are endless words to describe the beauty of autumn and its landscapes.
Even if you collect thousands of autumn captions, it's better to go to the fields and smell the fragrance of rice flowers.
The scent of rice is the aroma of autumn harvest; only mature rice knows how to bend.
Enjoy the gentle breeze across the rice fields alone, away from the bustling city. The rice field scenery of Xizhou Ancient Town is unique.
The four of us – "Old Niu," "Shitouji," "Xi Yangyang," and I – drove from Dali Xiaguan to Xizhou for rice field photography. We first chose a small path on the south side of Xizhou's internet-famous road, covered with "reed flowers," for our shoot. These white "furry grasses" might look more like "reeds." This is also one of Xizhou's internet-famous check-in spots. With the white furry grass as a foil and the yellow rice fields as a backdrop, beautiful photos were born one after another.
Next, we went to the rice fields behind Xilin Courtyard in Xizhou Ancient Town for an up-close encounter with the golden fields. Smelling the rich fragrance of rice flowers, everything in sight was a golden harvest scene. Xizhou's rice fields are golden – it's the perfect time for photography.
Climbing to the observation deck on the second floor of Xilin Courtyard, we looked down upon a stretch of yellow rice fields. That is truly a beauty of Dali, a beauty of golden harvest.
When traveling, how can you not taste local cuisine? Led by brother "Old Niu," who knows everything about Xizhou, we chose the internet-famous restaurant (Hanlin Restaurant) for lunch. We tasted Bai ethnic specialties: sour-spicy fish, raw pork, Xizhou pastry, as well as "bitter gourd stir-fried with beans," stir-fried meat, and leafy greens.
After lunch, we passed the "Round Corner Building" and walked along the ancient town's stone paths through alleys, finally reaching "Sifang Street." A handmade popsicle from "Cool Hut" brought a moment of refreshing coolness on a golden autumn afternoon. We strolled around Sifang Street and visited the old courtyard of "Qiao Family Courtyard." Thus ended the wonderful time of casual photography in Xizhou's rice fields.
1. The "East Xizhou Loop" or "Zhendong Road" in Xizhou becomes one-way after the National Day holiday; don't drive the wrong way. The one-way section starts from "Haishe Line Road," passes "Dong Family Courtyard," "Round Corner Building," and "Dongan Gate," ending at "Southeast Parking Lot." Therefore, it's recommended that self-driving visitors park at the southern "Southeast Parking Lot" and walk to Xilin Courtyard, the Round Corner Building, or the Xizhou rice fields – that's the most convenient.
2. The best time to visit Xizhou's rice fields is approximately from mid-September to late October.
3. If you want to taste the Bai ethnic dish raw pork (shengpi), it's best to have it at lunchtime.
