Through the Forest and Across the Snowfields to See the Breathtaking Northern Scenery, a Name That Sounds Rustic Yet It's the Highest Peak in Heilongjiang
Through the forest~ across the snowfields~ soaring to the heavens... The moment I set foot at the foot of this mountain, known as the highest peak in Heilongjiang, Datuodingzi Mountain, the melody of one of the most classic arias from the fifth scene of 'Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy' echoed in my mind! Indeed, all the images I had imagined of the snowfields from the novel 'The Snow Forest' were presented before me on this mountain, which, though not looking very tall, is actually 145 meters higher than Mount Tai, with its main peak reaching an altitude of 1690 meters.
Datuodingzi Mountain is located in the southeast of Wuchang City, Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province, 170 kilometers from Wuchang City, and is the highest peak within Heilongjiang Province! At first glance, it doesn't seem particularly high, but little do you know that you have to drive up winding mountain roads, and upon reaching the foot, you must switch to a snowmobile to reach the so-called summit. And this snowmobile ride itself is an experience filled with thrills and excitement that you must go through to truly appreciate the beauty of this place!
Amidst the screams of excitement along the way, you indeed gain the majestic momentum of 'piercing through the forest and crossing the snowfields' along with a series of stunning views. When the snowmobile accelerates, the roaring mountain wind and the temperature low enough to turn boiling water into ice are all forgotten in that moment... Besides the powerful engine roar of the snowmobile, you can hear your own jostled breathing and your own shouts—either low or screaming—in short, this journey is thrilling!
And when you arrive at a vast snowfield of nearly 200 hectares just below the summit, you are immediately captivated by several very eye-catching, solitary trees! Each one stands uniquely; each one is pure and icy, though they have long lost their summer luxuriance, their thick branches and fine twigs are all adorned and covered with crystal clear ice flowers... Under the blue sky and above the white snow, the dazzling sunlight strikes every detail of the branches—glittering and brilliant!
Looking further to the distant slopes, there are also a few trees, either standing alone or leaning against each other in the thick white snow, creating a very artistic atmosphere. Some trees have no footprints around them, which makes viewers hesitate to approach, as those familiar with the area told us that we should not venture onto snow without a path or footprints, as we might get stuck. This, however, adds infinite imagination and mystery to the tourists who come to enjoy the scenery...
If you follow the snowy path with countless footprints pressed by people up the slope, you can reach the summit of Datuodingzi Mountain. I didn't go up myself, but it is said that there are a few oddly shaped trees on the summit, set against the dazzling sunlight and the white snow. Most people who go up choose to slide down along the gentle slope, using their bottoms as sleds without any snow equipment. If the snow weren't thick and firm, one could imagine the fate of their rear ends... Yet tourists keep coming, enjoying the pleasure of going up and down tirelessly!
Without going to the summit, I launched my drone on the spot. To my surprise, as the drone rapidly ascended into the sky, I discovered that there was a dragon lying on the mountain—oh, no, it was two dragons! Unfortunately, due to strong winds and low temperatures, the drone battery life was greatly reduced, so I dared not fly far. Thus, I didn't capture both dragons lying across the mountain peak in one shot, but only filmed them separately.
Later I learned that these two dragons are the plank road leading to the summit, built in the general shape of a dragon. Under the changing light and angles, you can clearly see dragon scales, a dragon head, and a dragon tail—isn't that spectacular! With the help of the drone, it's truly possible to appreciate the magnificent scenery of the highest peak in Heilongjiang, offering a panoramic view of all other mountains appearing small!
I am glad that I didn't give up this trip just because of the name 'Datuodingzi Mountain', which sounds even a bit rustic. Even more fortunate, despite the blizzard and extreme low temperatures the day before, today we have such rare good weather. The mountaintop, though seemingly remote, is like a paradise on earth; the vast emptiness and silence so profound that it makes one feel as if soaring above the clouds, far from the hustle and bustle of the mundane world... While enjoying the scenery at the summit, don't think about 'piercing through the forest and crossing the snowfields'; at this moment, you only need to imagine the scene of snow falling quietly and slowly—that scene and mood, even if you were offered to be a god, you wouldn't exchange it!
