The Most Practical Travel Guide to Snow Town & Harbin
Arrived at Harbin Taiping Airport️. Airport Bus Line 3 goes directly to Central Street, running until the last flight of the day, with departures every 60 minutes. The fare is 20 RMB per person—affordable and convenient.
What’s good to eat in Harbin? Let me tell you: Harbin red sausage (from Harbin Meat Processing Factory or Qiulin Company, which can ship directly home). Made'er ice pops—the colder the weather, the more flavorful; the rich milky taste of Made'er ice pops is a signature cold treat on Central Street. There's also锅包肉 (guo bao rou), golden in color with a sweet and sour flavor.
For accommodation, I recommend staying near Central Street—it’s convenient to go anywhere. Book hotels online in advance️.
As for things to do in Harbin, the Ice and Snow World is the top choice, but it doesn’t open until late December. You can also visit Saint Sophia Cathedral, Central Street, and Songhua River for all kinds of ice entertainment.
4-Day Harbin Itinerary
Day 1: Harbin → Central Street → Saint Sophia Cathedral️ → Songhua River → Ice and Snow World.
Day 2: Morning: Harbin → Xuegu (Snow Valley). There’s little snow in downtown Harbin; if you want to see heavy snow, go to Xuegu. It’s a 4.5-hour carpool ride directly to Xuegu, a primitive mountain village with simple folk customs. Local snacks: roasted sweet potatoes🍠, northeastern sticky corn🌽, and sticky bean buns. In the evening, enjoy an authentic iron pot stew. After eating, join the yangge dance, a bonfire party, set off fireworks—as lively as Chinese New Year🧨.
Day 3: Xuegu → Xuegu Rime Ridge Scenic Area. Check in at Rime Ridge, located in the deep uninhabited mountains of Xuegu. Enjoy rime, snowy pines, sunrise/sunset, skiing⛷️, snowmobiles, snow discs🛸, and various activities that can fill a whole day. The snow❄️ is soft and thick—you won’t feel pain when you fall. Don’t forget to try throwing boiling water into the air to make instant ice crystals; have fun to your heart’s content.
Day 4: Xuegu → Cross over to Xuexiang (Snow Town). After breakfast🥣, depart for Xuexiang. Xuegu and Xuexiang are separated by Yangcao Mountain⛰️. Xuegu is on the leeward slope, Xuexiang on the sunny slope. Xuegu to Yangcao Mountain is about 10 km; Yangcao Mountain to Xuexiang is 5 km. From Xuegu you can hike or take a horse-drawn sled or snow vehicle to the summit⛰️. From Yangcao Mountain to Xuexiang is all downhill; a 1.5-hour hike leads to Xuexiang Scenic Area. Xuexiang’s night view is stunning—lights turn on at exactly 4:30 PM. You can visit the Fairy Tale World for free to see the snowy scenery; all those beautiful online photos were taken there. The entrance is behind the big China Snow Town stone monument.
Day 5: Xuexiang → Return to Harbin, end of trip. In the morning, stroll along Xueyun Street and take photos. At noon, carpool back to Harbin to end the trip.
For clothing, consider a ski jacket or down jacket with a wool sweater. Most importantly, protect your feet🦶: thick cotton boots + thick socks. Cotton boots under 100 RMB are fine. Hats are essential—preferably fleece or wool🧶. Snow❄️ falling on the hat looks very wintery and great in photos. If you’re prone to cold, bring a few hand warmers—not too many, as they’re heavy. Hey friends, if you found this useful, give a like and follow!
