Having some free time, I discussed with my wife and decided to bring our daughter to Kunming for a trip. Since Sunac Dianchi Back Sea has been quite popular on WeChat Moments recently, we decisively set our first day here.

Starting from Yuxi by car, we reached the destination in less than an hour and a half. Overall, it's very convenient, perfect for weekend trips with the whole family like mine. We left at 8 a.m. and arrived at the town by 9:30. It's also quite convenient for friends around Kunming; self-driving is recommended!

1. Xiyuecheng Tan Douhua (Tofu Pudding)

This was our first food stop in the town. It serves old Chengdu-style snacks. The sweet water noodles are highly recommended—rich in texture and chewy. My wife and daughter loved their ice jelly (bingfen), which is cold and sweet. For those with a sweet tooth, give it a try. Prices are very affordable; 30 yuan gets you a lot of small dishes. Highly recommended.

Tip: The boss lady is very warm. If you're not sure what to order, she can recommend something based on your taste.

2. Guoguo Sound

At first, it was the footstep floor piano at the entrance that attracted my daughter. Surprisingly, after going inside, we discovered something even bigger. Not only do they sell all kinds of small musical instruments, but they also have a high-end recording studio where you can record songs. Both the equipment and the recording teacher are very professional.

Since my daughter loves singing, we had planned to record a CD for her as a keepsake but never found the right place—until we stumbled upon this. According to the recording teacher, this is also the designated dubbing team for "Chen Xiang at 6:30." So we made a pact with our daughter: she will practice her songs at home and come back here to record next time. She was overjoyed.

3. Heqi Taotao

My wife and daughter are both bubble tea addicts. I'm not usually a fan of sweets, but this shop's drinks surprisingly suited my taste. They also have some clothes you can wear for photos. The whole store has a very Japanese-style decor, perfect for photo ops. The shop is spacious and bright, making it comfortable to sit and rest. My wife had the Grape Ice Bliss, and I took a sip—it was pretty good!

Tip: For bubble tea lovers, try the Sakura Peach Ball, one of their signature drinks. Our daughter had it and couldn't stop drinking; she asked for another right after finishing the first cup. It comes with a cream snow cap, which girls will probably love.

Average price is around 20 yuan, and a regular milk tea costs 16 yuan.

For dinner, we chose Dian Puzi, a very authentic Yunnan cuisine restaurant. The food came quickly, and the key point is that it tasted great. The restaurant is large, with two floors. I really liked the decor on the second floor—simple, casual, with a Zen vibe. My favorites were the Pepper-Numb Black Fish Fillets and the Pine-Smoked Little Duck. The fish fillets have no bones, so you can eat them worry-free. The soup is very refreshing, and the Sichuan peppercorn flavor is authentic. If you like spicy and numbing flavors, order this. The little duck is crispy on the outside and tender inside, with rich layers of flavor. The whole plate of duck was devoured by the three of us in no time!

Tip: This place is more suitable for families or groups of friends. Eating alone might be a bit expensive, but with more people, the per person cost is reasonable—about 50 yuan per person allows you to try many different dishes.

Our first day as a family of three ended like this. It was relatively laid-back and enjoyable. My wife and daughter were very satisfied. Thanks to the successful first stop at Sunac Dianchi Back Sea, I feel confident about the next day's itinerary. I believe after this weekend trip, my wife and daughter will love me even more!
