A 6-Day, 5-Night Yunnan Trip for a Couple: A Journey That Rekindled Love After the Seven-Year Itch
Married for seven years, we always argued over trivial matters. Though we were the most familiar with each other, now we felt so distant, like mere roommates. Some say that after marriage, love fades and what's left is just family affection. But every girl wants to live in love. A friend suggested going to Yunnan, to have some couple time and rediscover the sweetness of romance. After yet another argument, through a friend’s introduction, we met guide Xiao Hu and booked a 6-day, 5-night Yunnan tour for 1180 yuan. With great anticipation, we began our journey.
Wuhan → Kunming → Overnight in Kunming
On the first day, we took a morning flight and arrived at Kunming Changshui International Airport. As soon as we landed, I called guide Xiao Hu. To our surprise, he was already waiting at the airport. In less than half an hour, he took us to the hotel. Xiao Hu thoughtfully arranged a surprise—a bed covered in fresh flowers—which instantly lifted my spirits. At the hotel, we signed a formal contract with the Yunnan travel agency, then had free time. After a short rest, we wandered around, tried local snacks, but despite eating a lot, the flavors didn’t quite suit us. In the end, we had hotpot for dinner.
Kunming → Stone Forest Geological Park → Wild Mushroom Hotpot → Overnight in Chuxiong
After breakfast, we assembled in the hotel lobby and set off for the Stone Forest. We visited the famous national AAAAA-level scenic spot, the 'No.1 Wonder under Heaven'—【Stone Forest National Geological Park】. The towering peaks and lush greenery of the large and small Stone Forest, with their breathtaking rocky landscapes, made us marvel at nature's craftsmanship. What's more magical was standing before the Echo Stone: gently tapping the stone wall, you could clearly hear the reverberating echoes. The beautiful legend of 'Ashima' tells the timeless love story of a Yi girl, deeply moving. Inspired by their love, we began to find common topics and chatted happily, something we hadn't done all year.
After lunch, on the way to Chuxiong, we tasted Yunnan Pu'er tea, watched an elegant tea ceremony performance, learned professional Pu'er tea brewing techniques, and gained knowledge about health-preserving teas. He was amazed to find that I had actually learned to brew tea, and quite skillfully, and he praised me. I saw a little extra sparkle in his eyes when he looked at me.
... Next, we headed to Chuxiong. Deep in the mountains, hundreds of kinds of wild mushrooms gifted by nature are world-famous. We enjoyed a 【Wild Mushroom Hotpot】—we offer our esteemed guests the most distinctive cuisine of Yunnan wholeheartedly.
After dinner, we checked into the Chuxiong hotel!
Chuxiong → Erhai Private Yacht → Convertible Jeep -- Travel Photography → Internet-famous Photo Spot - Sky Mirror → Dali Ancient City → Overnight in hotel
After breakfast, we drove from Chuxiong to Dali, to experience the beauty of Erhai Lake up close, with the magnificent 19 peaks of Cangshan Mountain in full view, enchanting countless tourists. We boarded an 【Erhai Private Yacht】 to enjoy the natural scenery of Cangshan and Erhai: 'Morning clouds like painted screens, spring thunder over Cangshan, a jade belt of clouds, a glimmering eye, layers of blue water, floating clouds over Yuju Peak, cascading waterfall stones, and sunset glow.' On Erhai, 'mist and clouds over Jinsuo Island, the sky reflected in the mirror-like expanse, hazy Putuo, fishing boats in the waves, wind and waves at the pavilion, autumn colors on the sea, and the moon reflected in Erhai.' The beauty of the landscape intoxicated us, bringing joy and peace of mind; we didn’t want to leave. The guide took a photo of us together, and seeing it reminded me that we hadn't had such a close-up couple photo in years.
After lunch, we rode in a 【Convertible Jeep -- Travel Photography】. No matter how old we grow, don't forget the passions of youth. Those young experiences are engraved in the heart, filled with nostalgia. With your partner, create another unforgettable memory, experience something special once more. Each photo is a specimen of time. During this tour, the Jeep ride allowed photos all the way, capturing your most memorable moments! Let this youthful journey become a lifelong memory (4 people per car, about 1 hour). Here comes the highlight—【Internet-famous Photo Spot - Sky Mirror】. Dali's sky is so pure and bright blue, with drifting white clouds like cotton candy. Under the clear sky, you can take the blue sky and clouds into your arms—it's breathtaking. Standing in the stunning Sky Mirror, I took an artistic selfie and posted it on my social media; instantly many friends commented how beautiful it was, wanting to come along.
We then explored 【Dali Ancient City and Foreigner Street】. Dali Ancient City is nestled at the foot of scenic Cangshan Mountain and was the capital of the ancient Nanzhao and Dali kingdoms. It's a place perfect for living, with a slow pace of life, bright sunshine, and very pleasant temperatures. Strolling around the old city, browsing small shops, and admiring ancient architecture was incredibly relaxing.
Yunnan Characteristic Culture Center → Jade Dragon Snow Mountain → Glacier Park Big Cableway → Blue Moon Valley → Lijiang Old Town, Sifang Street → Overnight in Lijiang
After breakfast, we went to the Yunnan Ethnic Jade Culture Center, then learned about the long-standing culture of Yunnan silver ornaments (90 minutes).
After lunch, we visited the 【Jade Dragon Snow Mountain scenic area】, known as the 'Oriental Switzerland'. At an altitude of 4,506 meters, the cableway is 2,914 meters long with a vertical drop of 1,150 meters, one of the highest tourist passenger cableways in China. Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is the snow mountain closest to the equator and the embodiment of the deity Sanduo. The snowy world was stunningly beautiful. At the summit, he took the initiative to hold my hand to warm me up.
Then we arrived at the photographer's paradise 【Blue Moon Valley】, originally known as the 'White Water River'. On sunny days, the water is blue, and the valley is crescent-shaped, like a blue moon nestled at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain—hence the name Blue Moon Valley. The name White Water River comes from the white mud at the lake bottom; when it rains, the water turns white. We visited on a sunny day with blue sky and white clouds, the best time. We took many photos; honestly, any random snap from a phone could be a wallpaper.
In the evening, we strolled around 【Lijiang Old Town, Sifang Street】. The ancient flagstone streets gleamed softly, the hoofprints of the caravan leaders still visible on the stones. With the snow mountain in the background, the little bridges and flowing streams tell tales of a southern landscape. In the old town, you can sense the simple folk culture, experience the leisurely charm of bridges and streams, and feel the bar culture of Lijiang. Over a few drinks, we began talking about how we first met, our first date, our first handhold, from falling in love to getting married...
Yunnan Characteristic Culture Exhibition Center → Shuhe Ancient Town → Lashihai → Overnight in Kunming
After breakfast, we went to the Characteristic Culture Exhibition Center.
Then we visited 【Shuhe Ancient Town】, a well-preserved important town on the Tea Horse Road and a living example of the Naxi ancestors' transition from agricultural to commercial civilization, as well as a model of town development shaped by trade and caravan activities.
After lunch, we went to 【Lashihai】, a haven for migratory birds. It's their hometown, with lush water plants and beautiful lake views, known as the cradle of life. It's a base of The Nature Conservancy and the filming location for 'One Meter of Sunshine' and 'Mufu Wind and Cloud'. We rode horses along Lashihai, holding hands with the most genuine smiles for each other.
Then we drove back to Kunming. Arriving at the hotel, we rested comfortably.
On the sixth day, guide Xiao Hu thoughtfully prepared a small gift for us as a couple and printed the photos he took for us. After lunch, he saw us off at the airport. This trip helped us as a couple rediscover the feeling of being in love. We began to learn to communicate, to appreciate and care for each other. The pressures of the big city and the trivialities of daily life had made our lives dull and tasteless. This journey to Yunnan allowed our bodies and minds to relax. We fell in love with Yunnan. In the next seven years, we'll come to Yunnan again.
