Athens Airport Tax Refund Process: A Step-by-Step Guide
Items purchased in Schengen countries can be claimed for tax refund when you are at the last Schengen country before leaving the zone.
For example, if your last stop before returning home is Athens, you can refer to the tax refund process at Athens International Airport.
There may be queues for tax refund, so it is recommended to arrive at the airport with ample time, ideally two to three hours before departure.
1. After arriving at the airport, first get your boarding pass (if the items for tax refund need to be checked in, collect the boarding pass first, then apply for the tax refund stamp, and finally check in the luggage).
2. Tax refund stamp: Enter Athens Airport and follow the signs pointing to V.A.T. Refund. At the tax refund point, present your tax refund form, passport, and boarding pass to apply for the stamp. Sometimes the staff may ask to see the purchased items.
3. Keep the stamped tax refund form, complete the check-in process and check in other luggage, then proceed to security.
4. Head to the boarding gate. After passing security, you will see the tax refund counter where you can present your tax refund form to receive the refund.
