A Spring-Filled March: Come See the Golden Flower Sea in Gaochun
A March brimming with spring... Sometimes sunny, sometimes drizzly~
Staying at home daydreaming on weekends? Better to invite friends out for a trip.
This time, we headed to Gaochun District in Nanjing, the ancient capital of six dynasties,
known as the back garden and southern gate of Nanjing.
Here, golden flowers are in full bloom~ the brightest yellow of March,
the breath of spring overwhelming... making me want to embrace it.
This place boasts the most intact Ming-Qing street – Gaochun Old Street.
Whitewashed walls, grey tiles, flying eaves and curved corners are the architectural signatures.
When tired from strolling, take a break,
and taste Gaochun's local specialties.
The Water Slow City here is my favorite, with a golden beach, tulip garden and more~
plus many adorable animals.
The Ceramics Museum, where you can shoot trendy fashion scenes, is full of spatial feel!
Inside, the ceramics are all artworks, each one exquisitely crafted.
Youzi Mountain is a symbol of Gaochun, gathering Confucian, Buddhist, and Taoist cultures.
“Rain returns to the mountain ridge, clouds congealing like dark dye; sun leaks through the hillside, stones seeping with gold” — Fan Chengda, Southern Song poet
Gaochun is China's first International Slow City, and the pace here is leisurely~
It helps you relax and escape the city's hustle and bustle.
The rapeseed flowers in Yaxi Slow City have quietly bloomed!
This year's Golden Flower Tourism Festival also kicked off here,
where besides the golden rapeseed blooms, there are also dazzling multi-colored flower fields.
Set against the blue sky, the beauty is breathtaking,
the sunshine and golden flower sea let you feel the romance and tenderness of spring.
A casual snapshot looks stunning~
After enjoying the flower sea, there are plenty of recreational activities,
such as a skywalk, rainbow slide, and the treetop drift I tried with friends.
It's also open in autumn and winter; full rain gear is provided so you won't get wet—super thrilling!
The First Street of Jinling—Gaochun Old Street, with nearly 900 years of history,
is the best-preserved Ming-Qing architectural complex in Jiangsu Province.
Despite centuries of wind and rain, it still retains its original charm,
exuding an ancient and elegant ambiance...
The entire street has over 300 shops selling all sorts of delicacies and local specialties,
like malt sugar I love, freshly steamed green rice balls, home-brewed rice wine, and so on~
Compared to other ancient towns, this place has less commercialism and more genuine daily life, full of human warmth...
Strolling around, you slow down, far from the hectic pace of life.
The Taoist Guanwang Temple is the only existing temple in the Jiangnan area dedicated to Guan Yu, the Three Kingdoms general.
Its architecture is exquisite, whether the yellow walls or the long corridors, everything is photogenic.
Right now, the tulips at Water Slow City are in full bloom,
with the vibrant flower sea and charming windmills, you'd think you're in Holland.
The wetland zoo inside is my favorite, where you can see all kinds of cute animals.
It includes a crocodile house, flamingo garden, parrot aviary, crane garden, swan lake, and peacock garden.
It's absolutely on par with any other zoo!
The interior design of this museum blew me away!
The spiral staircase looks great from any angle in photos.
It showcases the brilliance of China's contemporary national porcelain development.
All kinds of ceramics are displayed here,
many are tableware specially designed for state banquets, with gorgeous patterns.
I was fortunate to visit the ceramic-making workshop,
where every step—polishing, grinding, coloring—is strictly controlled,
resulting in breathtaking porcelain pieces.
When in Gaochun, you must visit Youzi Mountain, named after Confucius's travels.
Aside from being a “sacred site of three religions” blending Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism, it's also a leisure resort.
The largest stone Buddha in East China stands here, with incense offering bustling daily.
The park consists of Large and Small You Mountains, with rolling hills, picturesque peaks, and flowing emerald streams.
From the highest point, you can overlook the panoramic view, like a painting,
while the serene surroundings with bamboo groves are perfect for spiritual cultivation.
Every visit brings a new experience.
This time, I stayed at the Gucheng Bay Kaiyuan Resort Hotel~
Separated from Gucheng Lake by just a dyke, with Gaochun Old Street just across.
I chose a lake-view room with a round bathtub I absolutely love!
The room's decor style feels very cozy and relaxing.
Upon check-in, tea snacks and fruits were thoughtfully prepared.
Breakfast was sumptuous and delivered right to the door—great!
In the afternoon, sitting on the balcony, basking in the sun and chatting,
enjoying the Jiangnan water-town garden scenery—so pleasant...
