All that the earth gives us is far more profound and vast than any book in this world. To behold the charm of the Golmud Desert Populus Euphratica Forest, this summer I journeyed across mountains and valleys, driving all the way from Golmud to the legendary Golmud Populus Euphratica Forest Desert Park. The long-awaited distant land arrived at this very moment.

Stepping onto the land of the Populus Euphratica Forest Park, I was immediately stunned by the poplar forest before me. The scene stretched vast and boundless, a serene and expressive wide canvas. On the immense desert, the rugged poplar trees undulated with the sand dunes, extending all the way to the horizon beyond sight.

The Golmud Populus Euphratica Forest Desert Park is located in the Tuolahai Animal Husbandry Community of Guolemude Township, Golmud City. The vast desert, dry and barren, was my first impression of this land. Yet the countless poplar trees before me, deeply rooted in the ground and standing tall, added endless greenery to this place, watching over Golmud season after season.

The rugged poplar forest is especially suitable for portrait photography, offering a kind of desolate beauty unique to the Northwest. How should I describe my fondness for the desert poplars? When I sat on a poplar trunk and gazed into the distance, the azure sky, drifting clouds, and the yellow boundless desert, along with the tall trunks showing diverse stubborn postures, composed a vast and profound summer landscape of the Northwest.

The Golmud Populus Euphratica Forest Desert Park is 50 kilometers from Golmud city, with an altitude of 2,730 to 2,813 meters. It is the highest-altitude poplar forest in the world. In the dry desert, poplars can live for a thousand years, a spirit worthy of praise.

The scenery of the Northwest has a majestic beauty. Lonely poplar trees stand on the Gobi desert, guarding the ecology of this land, evoking a sense of solitude without sadness. The poplars are tall and resilient, with the reputation of living but not dying for a thousand years, standing but not falling for a thousand years, and remaining intact but not decaying for a thousand years. They are regarded as living fossils of plants, and the spirit of the poplar is increasingly admired by people. Because poplars have astonishing abilities to resist drought, withstand sandstorms, and tolerate salinity, they can survive and thrive in the desert, earning them the title of desert hero trees.

This poplar forest in Golmud is vast, covering over 1,700 mu, growing on rolling sand dunes. The climate here is cool in summer without extreme heat, dry with little rain, and strong evaporation. Although it is said that October, when the poplar leaves turn golden, is the best tourist season, I feel that the summer poplar forest has a different flavor. The azure leaves, varied trunks, and clear blue sky complement each other, creating a beauty that is both striking and fresh.

The Populus Euphratica Forest Desert Park is very suitable for portrait photography. Just sitting casually, the scene has a strong visual impact. When enjoying the scenery here, remember not to stay in one place thinking it’s beautiful enough. Walk further ahead; perhaps after turning a sand dune, you’ll find another view. The poplar trees come in diverse shapes, and looking at the desert poplars from different angles reveals different beauty.

This is the first time I saw such brilliant flowers blooming in a desert poplar forest, forming a sharp contrast with the ancient poplar trees. Clusters of small pink flowers were in full bloom. I didn't know their name, but I found them incredibly lovely. In the Golmud Populus Euphratica Forest Desert Park, there are many such small pink flowers, adding a touch of brightness to the desolate desert.

The Golmud Desert Populus Euphratica Forest scenic area is great for taking portraits. The sturdy poplars with their bold shapes can yield great shots in minutes. For clothing, colorful dresses are recommended, with red and white particularly outstanding. Or you can wear low-saturation clothes with white pants like I did, which I think is also cool.

The signal at the Golmud Populus Euphratica Forest Desert Park is very good, making it ideal for aerial photography. Viewing the entire vast desert from above, the videos are stunning. The poplar forest plays an indispensable role in ecological protection. In this area already engulfed by desert, they form a green barrier, effectively halting the expansion of the desert and its spread toward the northern saline-alkali land. The poplar forest belt is a natural shield for the agriculture and animal husbandry in the sandy area, as well as an important habitat for wildlife. The scenery changes with the seasons; in summer, it is fresh and natural.

The desert, blue sky, and poplar forest—the vast and desolate Northwest scenery always brings visual shock. The lush branches of the poplars are like interwoven strokes, writing a millennium-long legend in the boundless desert, waiting for those fated to meet them.
