Accompanied by Blossoms All the Way: The Anhui-Zhejiang Sky Road and Jiapeng Terraced Fields
The most beautiful scenery on a self-driving trip is actually along the way. There's no need to stick to specific attractions, especially in places like southern Anhui, where scenery is everywhere. So just decide on a few must-visit spots and enjoy the journey as you go.
I have always been obsessed with the mountains, waters, and small villages of southern Anhui. Perhaps it's because I want to pursue inner peace as much as possible.
Every visit brings a different feeling. I may go many times in the future, and I hope to keep my original intention and remain young at heart!
The Anhui-Zhejiang Sky Road is the highest-altitude sky road in East China. It starts at Jiapeng Township, runs through the entire Jingzhou, and borders Lin'an City in Zhejiang Province. With a total length of only 30 kilometers, it has 351 curves and 21 hairpin turns. Everywhere you look is a scenic view and a picturesque step, making it perfect for self-driving tours.
Best seasons: Spring when rapeseed flowers bloom (March, April); Autumn when leaves turn red and fruits ripen (October, November).
Located in Jiapeng Township, it is an ancient village with Huizhou-style architecture. The whole village is surrounded by mountains and water, built along the hillside. White walls, black tiles, and horse-head walls are arranged in a pleasing disorder, giving the architecture a natural and unique style.
A small stream runs through the village, with two streets on either side called Water Street. The entire village ascends along the street, with residential houses built layer upon layer along the two banks, creating a staggered and orderly appearance. Water Street is about one kilometer long, with a height difference of about 30 meters from the village head to the tail. It is paved with granite flagstones, and the street has steps following the stream's elevation. Ten bridges connect the two sides of the village. Corresponding to the 28 stone steps for drawing water on both banks, these not only facilitate fetching water and washing for villagers but also become a major feature of Kantou Village.
Strolling through Kantou, with small bridges, flowing water, white walls, and gray tiles, it truly is a mountain village in a painting, making one linger and forget to return.
The best viewing spot for the rapeseed flower terraced fields in Jiapeng Township. Thousands of acres of rapeseed flowers set off the white-walled, black-tiled Huizhou architecture, with the steep and continuous Tianmu Mountain range as a backdrop, making it particularly magnificent. If the weather is good, you can also see mist swirling, like a fairyland.
We arrived here in the evening of the first day, but the light wasn't good, so we went to visit Kantou Village first.
Early the next morning, we rushed to the viewing spot and climbed up the small hill behind. Standing there, we saw the rapeseed flower fields shrouded in mist, with a small village called 'Xingfu Village' in the middle. Thousands of acres of rapeseed flowers set off the white-walled, black-tiled Huizhou architecture, with the steep and continuous Tianmu Mountain range as a backdrop, making it particularly magnificent.
After photographing the rapeseed flower fields, we drove to Xingfu Village, found a local household, and ate a bowl of steaming hot noodles. How comfortable!
Then we continued on the road to explore the winding 'Anhui-Zhejiang Sky Road'!
The small village in the rapeseed flower terraced fields is 'Xingfu Village'. Now almost every household in the village runs a homestay, so you can consider staying here.
Shang Village is a rare thousand-year-old ancient village with multiple surnames in old Huizhou. It is also surrounded by mountains and is only two kilometers from Meiganling.
This amazing winding mountain road is only 30 kilometers long, yet it has 351 curves, 21 hairpin turns, and a minimum radius of only 15 meters. Known for its height, danger, uniqueness, and beauty, it is very suitable for self-driving tours. With rich tourism resources, every step is picturesque, and every place is a scenic view, as if you are in a landscape ink painting.
Racing along the winding mountain road, each turn makes your heart race. The scenery along the road becomes more and more beautiful. Thin clouds surround the green mountains, and the gentle mountain breeze blows. The flowing clouds make the entire green mountain seem even more enchanting.
The Little Jiuhua Scenic Area is located in Jingzhou Township, Jixi County. According to legend, Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva of Mount Jiuhua once practiced asceticism here, hence its name.
When we finished the Anhui-Zhejiang Sky Road, we happened to come down to this place. The scenic area was rather deserted with few tourists. We bought tickets on site, and because there were many of us, we got a small discount.
We walked along the mountain stream and followed the mountain path through the scenic area. The water was very green. In the off-season, it is basically unattended and free of charge. In peak season, a ticket may be required.
① There are too many curves on the mountain road, and visibility is very limited. You must drive slowly, slowly, slowly! Honk at every curve.
② In rainy or snowy weather, novices should avoid this road.
③ When taking photos or enjoying the scenery, it's best to stop at designated temporary parking spots. Do not park randomly on the road.
We drove from Nanjing, so we stopped for half a day at Qinglongwan Scenic Area in Ningguo. On the first day, we stayed overnight in Ningguo. Early the second day, we first went to Longchuan Scenic Area, and after lunch, we hurried to Kantou Ancient Village. The whole trip was three days.
