Visit the Former Site of the New Fourth Army Headquarters in Yunling
The New Fourth Army Headquarters was established on December 25, 1937 in Hankou, Hubei Province. It later moved through Nanchang, Yansi, Tutang, and other locations, and on August 2, 1938, it stationed in the Yunling area of Jing County, where it remained until January 4, 1941. During its time in Yunling, the New Fourth Army grew significantly, from an initial force of over 8,000 personnel—comprising remnants of Red Army guerrilla troops from eight provinces—to more than 90,000. The former site of the Yunling headquarters is an important destination for commemorating the Red heritage of the New Fourth Army.
After leaving the Taohua Tan scenic area, it took less than an hour to reach the former site of the New Fourth Army Headquarters in Yunling. This is a well-established location for red heritage visits. Admission is free after registration and ticket collection. The parking lot is large, and when we arrived it was quite empty, partly due to the pandemic and partly because it was afternoon. The headquarters complex is extensive, with many units scattered across villages within a 10-kilometer radius of the command post. Visiting all parts would take a lot of time, so we could only drive around for a brief overview.
