Spring Tea Picking Notes
On April 1, 2021, the trip to Luxi finally came true. Luxi Village, Sanxi Town, Jingde County is a scenic spot in the Southern Anhui region, with beautiful mountains and rivers, unique natural scenery, and a pastoral atmosphere. The Luxi tea garden spans thousands of mu in a continuous landscape. Because it grows on high mountains shrouded in clouds and mist, it is vividly called the "Sky Tea Garden," a stunning sight. Today, I led the children to Luxi Village for a research and study activity. The children experienced tea picking, tea frying, learned tea-making knowledge, watched tea ceremonies, and studied tea culture...
The children changed into costumes, put on floral aprons, picked up small bamboo baskets, and carried small bamboo backpacks, transforming into little tea farmers.
Picking requires skill: one bud and one leaf, no weeds or leaves with strange odors.

The children were very serious, becoming true tea farmers, participating in tea garden picking, experiencing the hard work of tea farmers, understanding that tea picking is not easy, and learning to be grateful.
For the first time, they gained a close-up understanding of tea plant cultivation, the ecological environment of growth, shape, and structure.
Tea-making artisans have a ruler in their hearts, controlling the scale of each step year after year. Time has imprinted this ruler on their hands. Here, the students could more intuitively see the tea-making process and deeply feel the spirit of craftsmanship. Every step of tea-making has its own standard unique to the tea artisan, and these standards come from accumulated experience over time.
Frying tea is not a simple task; it is like writing — the same technique, but the tea produced by each person is vastly different.
Grasping, shaking, stacking, pressing, pinching, pushing, hooking, swinging, grinding, pressing — from the ten major techniques of tea frying to the temperature setting of the wok.
The children personally experienced the tea-frying process, and the fried tea could be taken home for family to taste.
They experienced the tea-frying process: pan-firing (repeated wok frying) → rolling (shaping) → drying. Their observation, learning, analytical thinking, and teamwork skills were all developed — fun and beneficial.

The children were encouraged, after this research study, to go home and personally brew a cup of filial tea for their parents, thanking them for their nurturing kindness.
The day's itinerary has ended. Every student gained a lot and experienced the joy of tea picking. Through tea leaf picking, the students enhanced their learning ability, hands-on skills, and team collaboration awareness. They learned tea culture knowledge — a cup of fragrant tea holds countless lessons.
