On December 22, 2018, the day after the winter solstice, I embarked again on a 12-day trip to the western United States.

Global Walk【12】The last stop of 2018 and the first stop of 2019:

Entering the US from San Francisco, then after Xmas flying from Northern California to Southern California to LA to celebrate New Year's Eve!

Let me start with San Francisco, also known as San Francisco or San Francisco. This city, propped up by the Chinese community, is not large. Downtown is even more compact but exquisite, with shops lined up neatly filling every crisscrossing street. Modern skyscrapers, European-style buildings, and Chinese-style residences stand side by side.

Besides the various standard online guides, every street is filled with cars, like countless street parking lots.

San Francisco's Chinatown is the most orderly and imposing I have ever seen, looking like a city within a city;

New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Paris, The Hague, and even the cleanest, most orderly Chinatown in London can only be called streets; but San Francisco is different—it truly is a town, perfectly embedded in the center of San Francisco's Downtown. Whether passing through it from the central station via the famous Lombard Street (the winding street with eight sharp turns in a short block between Hyde and Leavenworth streets, with a 40-degree slope and a Z-shaped curve, so cars can only go downhill one way. The street is planted with flowers—hydrangeas in spring, roses in summer, and chrysanthemums in autumn—making it a riot of color. You can also get a distant view of the Bay Bridge and Coit Tower. If you're not driving, you can walk along the sidewalks on both sides of the winding street to enjoy the beautiful scenery.)

or going to the world-famous Fisherman's Wharf, Chinatown is a must-pass area.

Since the entire city is built on hills by the sea, besides driving, the city's Cable Car (trolley) is the top choice for sightseeing, followed by walking. Of course, except for the famous Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island, which require public transport, ferry, or taxi, walking in the city center is the best option.

As for food, besides the well-known seafood delicacies, there are street snacks—generous portions and delicious.

Of course, modern art museums, as spiritual nourishment, are also everywhere in San Francisco. There are many highly imaginative works of art, all quite expensive. But most do not allow photography, so you can only view them!

San Francisco recommended visit time: 4 days.

From San Francisco to Los Angeles, you can also choose to drive. Since the route is winding, the total distance is over 1,000 kilometers, taking about 7-8 hours.

With the California sun embracing you from above and the Pacific breeze caressing you, you can immerse yourself in the beautiful scenery all the way south. If the timing is right, around 5:10 PM, with the sunset over the sea, you enter the City of Angels—Los Angeles. That's the charm of California Highway 1;

It is located north of Los Angeles and south of San Francisco, with light traffic and beautiful scenery. Along the scenic sections, there are thoughtfully designed protruding dirt roads for vehicles to pull over and enjoy the views. National Geographic magazine calls it one of the 50 places of a lifetime.

Flying is also a good choice—90 minutes. If you're lucky, you can snag a ticket for $25; viewing both beautiful cities from the air offers a completely different perspective: on takeoff, the Golden Gate Bridge and the Pacific Ocean outside the window; on landing, the Pacific sunset.

This time in LA left me with a better impression,

probably because my first impression was so unpleasant that it left a psychological shadow.

My two trips to LA in 2017 and the LA trip spanning 2018–2019 were in spring, summer, and winter.

Los Angeles is neither too big nor too small, but transportation is not very convenient. Besides the usual check-in spots from guides, there are quite a few places in Los Angeles worth savoring slowly: especially several art museums, some of which are among the world's best. Not to mention Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and the Walk of Fame—these attractions everyone knows, whether you've been to LA or not.

Various must-visit check-in spots:

The coastline is the biggest highlight of Southern California, from SAN DIEGO in the south to SANTA BARBARA in the north, with Los Angeles occupying the best position.

On the evening of the 31st, watching the sunset over the sea at SANTA MONICA Beach, bidding farewell to 2018, was indeed a different experience:

The inclusiveness and coexistence of diverse cultures and ethnicities are more evident and real in Los Angeles, whether in the wealthy skyscrapers under the sun or the poor dirty streets at night:

Los Angeles recommended visit time: 12 days
