As a kind of ancient creature, dinosaurs have always aroused human interest and curiosity. Dinosaurs lived on Earth for about 160 million years and suddenly went extinct 65 million years ago. Before that time, the Earth was a completely different world. Humans are curious about this ancient history and hope to reveal the Earth's past through the study of dinosaurs. Now this opportunity has arrived!
The California Academy of Sciences is about to welcome the biggest and fiercest land animals of all time—dinosaurs! If you are wondering where to take your children for a fun outing, this article will give you the best advice, because this special exhibition is definitely the best choice for the whole family.
Here, you can get up close with life-sized dinosaur models. These models will definitely pique your curiosity about prehistoric animals, but don't worry—the museum's exhibits and interactive experiences will answer all your questions.
Exhibition location: The exhibition is located in the Forum Gallery on the second floor, directly above the Academy Café.
At the California Academy of Sciences, you can learn all kinds of knowledge about dinosaurs. The Academy's various interactive exhibits also allow you to further understand these animals that dominated the Earth millions of years ago!
Full-Size Dinosaur Models: In this new exhibition, you can see ancient long-necked herbivorous dinosaurs such as Mamenchisaurus and Argentinosaurus up close. You can also see how paleontologists use modern creatures to understand how these dinosaurs reproduced hundreds of millions of years ago. In addition, you can get a close look at the real size of dinosaurs. A full-scale model of a 60-foot-long female Mamenchisaurus allows you to fully experience just how magnificent and massive these dinosaurs were! Moreover, projections on the exterior of the dinosaur model show the dinosaur's heart and lungs, letting you see how its body organs functioned.
Witness the Appetite of Dinosaurs: After entering this eye-opening exhibition, you will also see the astonishing daily diet of the Mamenchisaurus. In this display, you can see that a newly adult Mamenchisaurus consumed up to 1,150 pounds of plants per day. You can imagine how enormous the food requirements of dinosaurs were back then!
Dinosaur Egg Replicas: Have you ever wondered how big dinosaur eggs were, given how tall and mighty dinosaurs were? Actually, dinosaur eggs were only about the size of a soccer ball. Baby dinosaurs hatched from the eggs and grew at an extremely fast rate to become the size we know. I know—it's truly incredible! You can also learn about the simple origins of both extant and extinct animals from this exhibition of dinosaur egg replicas. After this dinosaur journey, you are guaranteed to have a deeper understanding of dinosaurs!
Various Dinosaur Body Parts: The exhibition hall also displays many individual parts of dinosaurs, including the head of a Diplodocus. From the shape of Diplodocus teeth, paleontologists have determined how these dinosaurs used their teeth to bite and strip leaves from branches. From these exhibits, you can see how paleontologists study dinosaur fossils and present the most accurate information about these dinosaurs to the public!
"The World's Largest Dinosaurs" is fun and full of knowledge, guaranteed to broaden your horizons and give you a deeper understanding of the largest land animals in legend!
