Best Family Travel Destination for May Day in Hubei: An In-depth Family Travel Guide
Tomorrow is the May Day holiday. Has the struggle of deciding where to go with the kids already begun? Finally we can go out and have some fun. If you don’t want to travel far, where can you take the kids? I think there’s no better place around Wuhan for a family outing than Jingzhou Fantawild. Actually, there aren’t too many suitable spots for kids in Wuhan, but Fantawild is one that won’t disappoint.
Since I know many popular tourist cities will be extremely crowded during this May Day holiday, we chose to visit a smaller city. It was very convenient—just a one-and-a-half-hour bullet train ride from Wuhan to Jingzhou Station. The weather has been great lately.
As we entered the park after ticket check, the kids were so excited that they ran straight to take photos with their favorite Bear Two. This wasn’t our first visit, so there was none of the previous confusion about what to do and where to go; we basically knew the layout. We traveled light without bringing much, so we didn’t rent an electric cart in the park.
With a three-year-old, you can skip “Soaring with You.” After entering the park, we first lined up for the Boonie Bears Theater, which is specifically designed for children. There were also many kids' rides nearby. After watching and playing there, most of the morning was already gone.
Then we could continue forward and look for other pavilions with shorter wait times. After that, we visited “Colorful China,” which is more suitable for children under seven or eight. The wait time is usually not too long.
After experiencing various thrilling rides, it was time to relax. By then it was 3:00 PM, and our reserved time for “Chu Yue” had arrived. I think this unique large-scale live theater performance is a visual and audio feast of Jingchu folk culture. The extremely exquisite costumes and sets show its cultural depth! You need to queue online in advance because this show draws huge crowds every day.
To avoid rushing in the morning and be the first to enter the park, we came from Wuhan to Jingzhou the night before and stayed overnight. We chose to stay at the Jingzhou Greenland Primus Hotel. This luxury hotel is the closest high-end hotel to Jingzhou Railway Station—just a few hundred meters across the square once you exit the station. It’s perfect for families with kids who don’t like to run around looking for accommodation.
Walking into the lobby of the Primus, we saw elegant decoration—stylish and imposing. The light fixtures overhead were simple in design yet warm and grand. On both sides of the lobby entrance, there were hollow decorative walls that were very eye-catching, making everyone feel warm and at ease as soon as they entered.
For family trips, I love choosing a thoughtful family room. Seeing the kids happy is the greatest satisfaction for parents! As soon as we opened the bedroom door, we were attracted by the beautiful room decoration. The yellow-toned cute style made the whole room even cozier.
The room had many small details arranged by the hotel staff, along with warm messages that made us feel very welcome. The room was full of childlike fun—there was a small tent, a slide, and various toys. The kids were so excited that they crawled into the tent and refused to come out.
A pleasant surprise was a children’s play center on the second floor of the hotel. Since the kids couldn’t stay still in the room and wanted to go out, I really recommend taking them to such a play center—it also frees up the adults!
In the morning, we had the buffet breakfast on the second floor. The restaurant had a fantastic atmosphere, with a beautifully designed ceiling. Looking around, the breakfast offered a mix of Chinese and Western options, very rich. For a moment, I didn’t know what to choose—I wanted to eat everything. This breakfast alone could probably skip lunch.
As a luxury hotel, a heated indoor pool and a gym are standard. After checking in, you can go for a run in the gym, take a swim in the pool, and then head to the restaurant for a meal, enjoying a relaxing time.
The hotel also has an elegant Chinese restaurant to meet guests’ personalized needs. A specialty restaurant focuses on providing unique classic local dishes. It’s an excellent place for business meetings and private leisure.
