10-Day Osaka to Tokyo Travelogue
Osaka ➡️ Kyoto ➡️ Tokyo
Day 1: Depart from Nanjing to Osaka
Sightseeing 🚗: Osaka Castle Park ➡️ Pokémon Quest at Osaka Station ➡️ Umeda Sky Building – a day of non-stop walking
Morning flight, arrived in Osaka in the afternoon, dropped off luggage at the hotel, then started exploring
Osaka Castle Park – Japan's Yellow Crane Tower. Used Conan's decryption materials, step by step to solve the puzzles and explore the park, felt like being in 'The Last Wizard of the Century'
Pokémon Quest at Osaka Station – rushed around looking for Pokémon clues, and after answering all the questions, received some merchandise
Umeda Sky Building – the colorful snow-topped soda was delicious and photogenic
Food 🍽️: Had grilled meat in Dōtonbori in the evening; the sauce was good
Day 2
Sightseeing 🚗: Universal Studios Japan (USJ) 🌍
Arrived at 7:30 to queue at the gate, entered a little after 8 and headed straight to Nintendo World, making the guaranteed entry ticket I bought unnecessary
First played Mario Kart, then queued a long time for Donkey Kong Mine Cart. After the rides, went to the reserved Kinopio's Cafe for a meal. There, a staff auntie looked down on my sweat-soaked 1,000 yen bill, but the staff proactively offered to take photos after serving the food
In the afternoon, first went to the Amity Village area for Jaws, then to the nearby Jurassic Park for a boat ride that left us completely soaked, and finally experienced the loudest ride in the park, Flying Dinosaur
In the evening, watched the live One Piece show I was really looking forward to. As soon as it ended, hurried over to Harry Potter to ride the Forbidden Journey – another day of non-stop walking
The staff were all super enthusiastic and made the experience immersive
Food 🍽️: Beef rice set for breakfast – delicious; lunch at Kinopio's Cafe with mushroom soup and bacon burger – delicious; pork cutlet rice for dinner – delicious
Day 3: Around the hotel loop – Osaka Aquarium ➡️ Santa Maria Cruise ➡️ Yasaka Shrine ➡️ Shinsaibashi ➡️ Dōtonbori
Morning: First went to Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan. In the Pacific Ocean tank, there were two whale sharks, two sunfish, and several sharks; the penguins from Antarctica were also cute
Midday: Took the Santa Maria cruise ship – the sunny port of Osaka was quite picturesque
Afternoon: Visited Yasaka Shrine and Shinsekai shopping street – the merchandise in the street was quite new
Evening: Went to Shinsaibashi and Dōtonbori, took a boat cruise – by the time we boarded it was almost 9 PM; the lanterns were beautiful
Food 🍽️: Mackerel rice set for breakfast – delicious; steak rice for lunch – delicious; ramen with rice for dinner – okay, but too salty
Day 4: Nara
Took a bus 🚌 to Nara Park to see Tōdai-ji (the temple burned by Matsunaga Hisahide). After visiting, fed the cute deer and got my hands all licked wet. Then went to Uji Bridge, saw the statue of Murasaki Shikibu who wrote 'The Tale of Genji', and had a nice matcha ice cream
Fushimi Inari Taisha – Japan's money shrine, drew a fortune – got '末吉' (average luck). Kiyomizu-dera was extremely crowded, a holy site for ShinRan fans, very photogenic. On the way back, passed by Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka, which reminded me of Chongqing's Eighteen Stairs – must be beautiful at night
Food 🍽️: Breakfast: convenience store onigiri – delicious; lunch: tempura + soba noodles – delicious; dinner: beer and teppanyaki – delicious but not filling
Day 5: Around Kyoto – Sanzen-in ➡️ Kifune Shrine ➡️ Arashiyama ➡️ Kyoto Tower
Sanzen-in: Felt the Zen of green shade in the garden, heard the cicadas in the forest, felt truly healed
Kifune Shrine: Water fortune-telling – this time got '吉' (good luck). Unfortunately couldn't book the flowing noodles, a bit regrettable
Arashiyama: Sagano Romantic Train – walked from the bamboo grove to the station, departed upstream along the valley. Even though it was hot and the train had no AC, the tunnels were cool. The lush greenery along the way gave a beautiful summer feel
Kyoto Tower: Felt average
Food 🍽️: Breakfast: convenience store onigiri – delicious; lunch: tofu feast where we made our own tofu – delicious; dinner: Ōita sushi – delicious
Day 6: Kyoto City & Tokyo – Kinkaku-ji ➡️ Nijō Castle ➡️ Honnō-ji ➡️ Kyoto Railway Museum ➡️ Shinkansen to Tokyo ➡️ Yasuda Auditorium
Rokuon-ji: The temple's name comes from its founder, the third Ashikaga shogun Yoshimitsu, whose dharma name was Rokuon-in. The three-story golden pavilion (reliquary hall), covered inside and out with gold leaf, is also called Kinkaku, hence Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion). Seeing Kinkaku-ji reminds me of Yukio Mishima; its beauty is eternal, yet that eternity is composed of countless moments
Nijō Castle: The Honmaru Palace and Ninomaru Palace are the main buildings. The architecture of Ninomaru is unique – the walls and sliding doors are painted with masterpieces by the Kanō school, vivid and exquisite, even though the tigers were painted based on leopards. Nijō Castle tells the rise and fall of the Tokugawa clan, a place where Japanese historical eras shifted, and arguably where Japan's modernization began
Honnō-ji: The place where the great warlord Oda Nobunaga met his end. A momentary whim of Akechi Mitsuhide changed the entire course of Japan's Warring States history
Kyoto Railway Museum: The largest railway museum in Japan, showcasing the history of Japan's railways from the first line to the present, with many old locomotives
Took the Shinkansen to Tokyo – the train we rode was too new; couldn't find the same model in the museum
Visited Yasuda Auditorium as a pilgrimage site – the Zenkyōtō (All-Campus Joint Struggle Committee) era, a time when our modern influence was at its peak
Food 🍽️: Lunch: Japanese curry rice – delicious; afternoon tea: Maeda Coffee 'Ryūnosuke'; dinner: salmon bento – average
Day 7: Kamakura
Visited the Metropolitan Police Department and the National Diet Building
Kamakura Daibutsu – first time seeing a Great Buddha with a window in its back
Kamakura High School and Enoden railway line – anime pilgrimage spot, the sea was beautiful
Atami Fireworks – first time seeing such beautiful fireworks
Day 8: Yamanashi Prefecture – Clouds blocked Mount Fuji!
Lake Kawaguchi – felt similar to Xuanwu Lake
Oishi Park – many beautiful lavender, but didn't see Mount Fuji
Lake Yamanaka – the swans and koi were lovely, took the 'Swan Lake' sightseeing boat – still didn't see Mount Fuji
Shibuya Crossing – just a check-in spot, I'd say
Tokyo Tower – didn't go up, just took a photo
Day 9: Tokyo City
Tokyo National Museum – Main Building and Asian Gallery – a great museum, but felt like everything in the Asian Gallery was looted
National Museum of Nature and Science – Ice Age exhibit – the sculptures were extremely realistic, vivid
Ginza – check-in spot
Akihabara – felt a bit old, couldn't find any new manga; basically all old series like Eva, Dragon Ball, Naruto, One Piece
Sensō-ji Temple and Skytree – check-in
Day 10: Go home
It was a very enjoyable trip. The biggest takeaway is that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable.
