The Stories of Emperor Qianlong and Zuogezhuang Town's Guo's Rice Cake
Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty was exceptionally talented in literature, romantic and free-spirited. During his reign, he considered himself adept at recognizing talent, distinguishing loyalty from treachery, and was most empathetic and perceptive of the common people's sufferings, earning him the title 'Ten Complete Old Man'.
Zuogezhuang's 'Huangdaokou' (Imperial Road Entrance) got its name because Emperor Qianlong built a temporary palace called 'Da Ying' (Grand Camp) here. The 'Huangdaokou' archway still stands at the entrance, majestic and magnificent, and is a landmark of Zuogezhuang.
Zuogezhuang's Guo's Rice Cake originated from the 'Hou Dongmen' branch of the Guo clan in Xiaobaoli, who migrated to Zuogezhuang.
