I first saw Shuanglang ten years ago. I heard it was beautiful, heard it was the hometown of dance artist Yang Liping, and heard she had built a Sun Palace on Yuji Island in Shuanglang. So I came with a friend. At that time, Shuanglang seemed to be undergoing massive construction — dust was everywhere. But ignoring that, the beauty of Erhai Lake, its tranquility, and its blue sky and white clouds were deeply etched in my mind.

When I returned to Shuanglang a second time, there was no more dust — only bright sunshine and gentle breeze. The mirror-like Erhai reflected the blue sky and white clouds. Feeling gently wrapped by Mother Nature, I couldn't help but feel reborn, both novel and utterly comfortable.

Walking on the streets of Shuanglang, I was met with full goodwill. There is no hustle and bustle like in Lijiang or Dali, no heavy commercial atmosphere like other ancient towns. Here there are only quiet screen walls and alleys, only the faint smiles of Bai mothers at their stalls. Everything is so peaceful, as if time stands still here, making people unconsciously slow down and let down their guard and fatigue.

In Shuanglang, you can find a guesthouse by the lake, push open the balcony door, and embrace Erhai. You can take a moonlit bath in the balcony tub, or take a set of unique "sky mirror" photos, enjoying the tranquility of oneness with nature. All this is possible in Shuanglang.

In Shuanglang, you can experience the Bai people's Han Baiyu barbecue, feel their boldness and unique ingredients and dipping sauces. The sizzling sound and fragrant aroma will make your mouth water. You can also taste the spicy and tender Chongqing crayfish in Shuanglang — garlic, braised, spiced — both spicy and non-spicy kinds. The flavor is simply amazing; you'll probably end up licking the juice off your fingers. You can also enjoy the super combination of local beef hotpot in Chongqing style. Accommodation recommendation: Mu Xi Boutique Guesthouse. Lake-view rooms start from 600 RMB. There is a "sky mirror" terrace in the lobby downstairs, perfect for photos. Lake-view rooms also have balcony bathtubs, which give a slightly sexy vibe in pictures.

Food recommendation: Strongly recommend Xiao Cai Yi Die Restaurant in Shuanglang. Average spending 60 RMB per person. They serve Bai Han Baiyu barbecue, Chongqing Bingbing crayfish, Chongqing old hotpot with green beef series, grilled fish and various late-night snacks. Oh yes, for breakfast they have local chicken rice noodles — all taste superb!

Bar recommendation: Amira Music Tile House. Average spending 100 RMB per person. The female singer sings very well — her powerful voice touches your heart like heavenly music. Really nice.

Transportation: You can fly from anywhere in China to Lijiang or Dali. Lijiang has more flights. Then take a shuttle bus or carpool to Shuanglang (about 1 hour). There are many scenic spots along the way for photos and check-ins.
