What kind of fairyland is this? With a 240 yuan ticket, tourists flock as if they're getting a bargain
In 2019, Wudang Mountain scenic area achieved total revenue of 8.1 billion yuan, receiving over 10 million visitors, making it China's most profitable mountain. How can a scenic area with a ticket price of 240 yuan become so popular?
Wudang Mountain is a famous Taoist mountain in China. As early as the Tang Dynasty's Zhenguan period over 1,300 years ago, the Wulong Temple was built on Wudang Mountain to promote Taoism, making Wudang Mountain the birthplace of Taoism in China.
It is hailed as 'the unparalleled scenic wonder, the number one immortal mountain under heaven.' Additionally, Wudang martial arts are an important school of Chinese martial arts, with Zhang Sanfeng being a household name. All of this makes visitors feel an immense sense of mystery and longing.
The natural scenery of Wudang Mountain is also stunning, creating an artistic conception of 'a temple every five li, a palace every ten li, red walls and green tiles in delicate beauty, towers and pavilions reflecting gold and silver, and mountains and forests in a mirror-like painting.' It is the largest religious architectural complex in China. On December 17, 1994, the 'Ancient Building Complex of Wudang Mountain' was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Wudang Mountain has 72 peaks, with the highest Tianzhu Peak reaching an altitude of 1,612 meters. As the saying goes, 'Tianzhu Peak towers high, the Golden Palace shines brightly, illuminating a hundred miles.'
The Golden Palace on the summit of Tianzhu Peak is entirely made of cast and welded bronze with gold plating. Inside, the gilded bronze statue of Emperor Zhenwu weighs 10 tons. Since ancient times, three wonders of the Golden Palace have fascinated people, which is also a major reason for the influx of tourists.
Strictly speaking, the various wonders displayed by the Golden Palace on the summit are the embodiment of the profound knowledge and exquisite skills of Ming Dynasty craftsmen. However, they were nearly destroyed by human actions, and later additions have caused these unparalleled wonders to disappear completely.
The three wonders of the Golden Palace— 'Ancestor sweating,' 'Sea horse spouting mist,' and 'Thunder and fire refining the palace'— are now difficult to witness again, but people's curiosity remains undiminished. It seems that just hearing about their stories on a visit to the Golden Palace would satisfy them.
Wudang Mountain has beautiful mountains and magnificent buildings. Although it is not among the 'Three Mountains and Five Sacred Peaks,' it still deserves the title of 'the number one immortal mountain under heaven.' I think the reason Wudang Mountain attracts thousands of visitors is its profound historical and cultural heritage. From any perspective, it is worth a visit.
Finally, I have to say that visiting Wudang Mountain with just a 240 yuan ticket is definitely not enough. There are many other consumption items within the scenic area, making the per capita expenditure four to five hundred yuan a common occurrence. I think for ordinary tourists, the cost is a bit high. What do you think?
